I was asked this question recently. I'm sure we've all heard this question in one form or another at some point in our life. What exactly does that question mean? I can answer "tell me about yourself". But, who are you? What exactly does that mean? If you were asked that question, how would you answer it?

At one point I would have said I'm a wife, mother and co-worker. I am a human being, a child of God. Now I say I am a woman who is looking forward to the future as an independent person.

I(f it was a stranger, I would answer "None of your G-ddamned business!" But if was a friend I would just say , "You don't know me by now?" A stranger will never get to know me by asking this question . But if a friend asked , it would hurt. I am not an open book but if this person and I have been around each other he/she so=hould know me by now. That question coming from someone I thought was my friend would really hurt.

hi miamilady well I think I would say I am Mrs.Hatley, I am a senior citizen who loves to read, and write stories and novels, I am a computer nerd, and a compassionate kind person who worked most of her life as a nurses aide, then later as a page in a library. I have had one son, I am now a widow, my son is fifty, and I am just another American citizen of senior age.

Who am I? is a much easier question to answer than What am I? I would probably respond with my name. That would be my instinctive answer to such a question. But, the way you typed that question, emphasizing the 'ARE', it reminded me of my grandmother's Myna bird when I was a kid. This bird had quite a vocabulary and would always ask that question whenever I came into the room. "Who ARE you?" emphasizing that middle word, like it was baffled as to my true identity or thought that maybe I was someone other than who I appeared to be. (This myna bird also said, "Oh, my Lord, the devil!" whenever my mother walked into the room. VERY unusual bird. LOL) But, who am I? Popeye put it very simply: "I am what I am and that's all that I am."

My first thought would be to give my full name. If more questions came my way then I would try to answer as best I could. You really need more questions to find out what the other person really wants to know.

Great question? Like all things in life, I believe it would depend solely on the circumstances of the particular moment...with the transitory nature of life, it could never be the exact same answer for any one person from one time period to the next... Who am I? Confused, tired, sometimes lonely sometimes content, a student, a would-be scholar, a bizarre spiritual fellow, sometimes a tad liberal, sometimes a touch libertarian, sometimes rather conservative, I'm Caucasian and of Irish decent with German and Iroquois as well, I'm an American, a human, a job seeker, a retail clerk, a graduate, a bachelor, a would-be peacemaker sometimes and an antagonist at others.... A collection of atoms with a consciousness-for whatever that means? Great question... How'd you answer it?

Hello miamilady If someone was to ask me that question I would just simply tell them my name and that would be it. If they wanted to know more about me then they can ask me tell them about myself.

Offcourse at first I will introduce myself as a human being. Ok Don't mind. I am joking. But it is the most common question, I think. So the answer should be straight one explaining your name, place etc. But obviously it really sounds awkward when somebody asks this question? So I feel what happens to you when anybody asks that question to you.

I depends on the situation why people ask you this term "who are you" because sometimes there are some who disguise and suddenly text you and send forwarded message to your phone. I've tried it many times and I always send back a message of who are you.

Everyone come to the earth, it has the real meaning. If some one ask me who I am, I will tell them that I am a angel that god send me come to the land, let me help others, share my happiness to others, let they feel love in the world. it's me.

That is a very good question. If you listen to how people answer this question you can get a lot of in site. How a person identifies themselves can tell you more than just what they vocalized. For instance if they say I am a Russian, Jew, you could assume their religion and nationality mean a great deal to them. But back to your question, I think this is answered differently by eveyone, to some it will mean traits they have, to others it could mean family history. I think there are as many right answers as there are people. May hap the right answer is: "I am a human. With many unique traits and experiences that make me who I am. Unless you want my autobiography that will have to suffice."

I would anwser that I'm myself, with all the goods and the bads that I have. If I was asked by a hateful person, I would say that I'm a one who feel free to forgive what he/she does. If I was asked by someone I love, I would say that I'm the one that he/she can count on.

They want to know, "who your relatives are"; "where did you come from"; "who are your friends". In other words, they are trying to figure out where you fit into the picture.

That's a bit like asking if you are comfortable in your own skin. I've not been in anybody else's so how would I know. I am me. Strong, weak, passionate, cold, humble, arrogant, rich, poor etc etc.
