Is it fair?

I know that if an earthquake happens in San Fransisco then there is a warning for the people that live there before it happens. Science is able to measure activity and warn people that something below the land had began to shake. Soon it hits the city and buildings are damaged.
In Samoa they had no warning of the tidal wave. In Indonesia they had no warning of the earthquake. In the Philippines they had no warning of the typhoon. Why don't other countries give these countries help to find out things like that before they happen. Airlines could fly people out to safety before it happens.

Hello max, to me this is something I cannot understand. All the developed countries jump to the aid of the poor countries, but it's always after the event. Now I heard on Australian news that we have a system in place that would warn Australians of a potential disaster, Why isn't that system available to ALL countries. Does it mean those poor countries can't afford it? If that is so, the world is in sad state of affairs. Watching footage of these disasters in heartwrenching.

Hi max,
My thoughts exactly, I think its all to do with money or they have forgotton these countries, nope its money, America is far richer and and they do everything to protect their country more than these other countries.

First, why is it the U.S. responsability to protect the world?? you guys have a fairly well off nation, why don't you do it for a while? Second, if you read my response above you would see there is no ammount of money in the world that is going to protect from this, earth quakes cannot be predicted. NO one has ever successfully been able to predict an earthquake. As much as we are capable of in the U.S., we are still not psychic

Earthquakes cannot be predicted. I know, because I live in an earthquake country. The most people could say is that the sysmic activity has increased or decreased.
As for asking the US to take care of that, I think we would all have more liberty if people would stop looking at the US as the big brother who has to take care of everything. We, small countries, even if we are poor, can stand on our own feet. We human beings are all as bright (or dumb) as the people from big countries. If be beg, we´ll be treated as beggars. Sorry, I shouldn´t have said this maybe. But I´m proud of being chilean and I´m as proud of mine as any US resident is of his country.

Actually even in san francisco thee really isn't a warning They can tell an earthquake MIGHT occure at SOME TIMe, but thats about it, there is still no acurate method for predicting earth quakes unfortunatly.
As for typhoons, there is warning, even in the phllipines. But somethimes these things behave unpredictably.

Hi Maximax!!
Very nice to hear this from you and hope every one who is authorized to do this must reach your feelings.
Our present world running with money than LOVE.. May be the reason why they have not shared technologies and my be the feeling shy to ask help..
There should be a revolutionary action must come among all top levels with passion of sharing things. That would surely solve this kind of problem.

You are right in what you say perhaps it is to do with poverty and the fact that governments don't have as much money or are just not willing. It is a very good point though.

Hi there,
U have a valid point here. As I live in a place which is surrounded by sea, I know that we are not equipped for any such calamity yet. Its like our system isnt bothered.
I remember when tsunami hit a lot of parts of the world there was a talk that we are going to take some measures as well, but that didnt happen.
Forget about natural calamities, our government is yet to make a proper anti terrorist sqad even after such a deadly attack in Mumbai, November last year.
Its sad, but its true.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi there Tutul. I am sorry to hear that your country isn't able to know about natural disasters in advance. It is a shame that no measures were taken to sort things out. Yes, the terrorist attack in Mumbai was awful. I hope that your home country will begin thinking how to improve safety.

Well, these tragedies are acts of nature... and no amount of modern science can actually predict when they will happen... the most we can do is speculate...
Here in the Philippines... we all thought that Typhoon Ondoy was just anothe 2nd level typhoon that will bring heavy rains and strong winds... never in our wildest dream did we think that it would rain hard for like 24 hours... thus area that don't get flooded were submerged in water as high as 15 feet...

Well, most country already have a proper equipment to detect nature disaster earlier. But sometimes even those equipment are quite hard to predict. One day they have a warning, and it didn't happen for about one week, and after that..suddently an earthquake out of nowhere..very quickly. So, we as people can try to detect it earlier, but sometimes things just went out quickly. Like an earthquake that I heard several days, the first were able to detected, but the second one and it's even bigger one, happened just a split of second..

Hi Maximax8, it is so good to hear your concern about these countries, specially the Philippines. I appreciate it very much. But in fairness to our PAGASA, our weather forecasting bureau, they have been givng out storm signals and warnings about the typhoons. It has said that Ketsana has lots of rain and Melor might intensify into a super typhoon.I think we have to take into mind that we, have a part to play in that disaster too. We should protect our mountains from deforestation and we should be really responsible in disposing our garbage. In studies being made now, it shows that these factors have a great role in what has happened. aside from tha fact that we should also improve our disaster preparedness together with our government.Thank you for a great discussion.

Yes many things could be done. All depend on sincerity of rich countries. If the countries follow your suggestion many helpless lives could be saved. I appreciate your soft heart and soft mind. Thanks.

Here in the states there really isn't a good warning that an earthquake is getting ready to happen. Out there in California, there is constant activity. They can have a big earthquake at anytime. As for the weather, there should be warnings for people.

maximax8 I really do not think its all that simple as here in
california we had a lot of devastation from the quakes and if'
all that you say were that cut an dried why people would have been warned and got out before so no we do not have that much technology that they can predict one before it shakes the hell out of us, if we had that yes we would be sending that to
all other countries but we do not yet have that so what ever you read we do not have that ability here in the uS. they cannot warn ahead, whoever told you that has bran instead of brains. do not you realize if we had had that thousands of peoples lives would have been saved in the recent quakes. and also we would share it with other countries so no dont blame the US

They can't predict quakes accurately. If they could have, I sure as heck wouldn't have been in my bed on the morning of the Northridge earthquake. What they CAN do is, after an earthquake has happened, based on the size of the quake, predict the likelihood of a tsunami. Problem is, I don't believe those places have warning systems that can get people to high ground in the event of a tsunami.
As for the typhoon, they do have pretty accurate weather predictions, so I don't know what was up with that.

Hello maximax,
The authorities do give some warnings. But some times, they are wrong because the behavior of the environment changes. Just like with typhoon. They would often predict when it will come based on their instruments and with the way the typhoon behave. But often typhoon's behavior changes. That's why, sometimes the authorities' prediction would be wrong.
And I hope they are wrong again. I hope this typhoon that is coming would not turn into a super typhoon just as they predicted. We still have flooded areas here and another typhoon would not help.
Tale Care

It is not that simple, friend. I live in an earthquake country and there´s sysmic activity everyday. Sometimes it is bigger, sometimes it calms dowmn. We would not be able to have a life if we left our homes everytime the earth has more activity. It´s not that expensive to have such ways of measurement (for earthquakes at least) an every earthquake country should have construction laws to make houses safer. We do. We are not a rich country.
No airline in the world could fly people to safety before a mayor disaster. Remember Katrina. The US is probably one of the richest countries in the world and with best technology. Yet they messed it up with the hurricane and New Orleans still is not what it was. On the other hand, Cuba, a VERY poor island, was prepared for the hurricanes and had no life damages.

Sometimes it's no any evidence before happen, it's most important to build up and enhance the system to protect people safe and prevent the typhoon and earthquakes happened.
