Being a resident of Bengaluru ensures that you learn at least 3 languages., namely English, Hindi and the local language Kannada. This is because of the large floating population in Bengaluru. Besides, being my mother tounge, I know Marathi. (Swakula sali to be precise). I also can speak fluently Telugu and Urdu and understand a fair bit of Tamil, Gujarathi, Marwari and Punjabi. This is because of my job which ensures that I keep meeting different people throughout the day. Now that makes it 6 languages which I am fluent in speaking.

I love to learn different languages and upto now i can speak and understand about 7 different languages. They are English, Spanish, Italian, Urdu, Punjabi, Pushtoo (Patahn nation)and some local languages. Now i am studying about Chinese language because peoples says that Chinese is most difficult language to learn. I find it so interesting. You have not shared your own capability here, what about you? How many can you speak or understand.

Not as many as I would like. I know a few phrases in a few languages and a bit more in others but am not fluent enough to hold a real conversation in anything other than English at the moment.

Hi Archie, I did exactly the same topic a few years ago. I speak English, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Flemish (almost the same as Dutch), some Spanish, some Portuguese, some Tshiluba, some Turkish, some Pigeon English, some Lingala, some Ewe, some Mina, a few words Arab, a few words Polish, a few word Russian, a few word Japanese and Chinese, I know a Philippino song by heart, ... And I would love to learn more and more! Every time I meet people who speak different languages, I try to learn a few word. Every time I travel I'd like to learn the language...

Hi dear! I know mainly three languages. These are Hindi (my mother tongue), then English and Punjabi. Besides, I can understand a bit of Bengali and Kannada. I get fascinated by different languages and always wish to learn them, but due to paucity of time, my wish does not get fulfilled.

Hi Archie, I love to learn languages, hope I am not too late to learn it. My spoken language : english, bahasa indonesia, mandarin and hokkien(dialect) My written language : english, bahasa indonesia I did learn Japanese during my high school, but now i totally forget how to speak and write, has returned the knowledge back to my teacher. I can speak simple Mandarin, but not the difficult one.I can't write Mandarin words and I also encounter difficulty to sing mandarin songs as I do not recognize the Mandarin words. I get nervous now as my son is going for school next year, how am I going to teach him Mandarin words as I myself is not good in Mandarin at all. It is time for me to learn Mandarin in the sake of my son and also myself.

I speak or at least can converse in about 5 languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and German) apart from my mother tongue which is Pilipino. I speak about 3 other Philippine dialects. Does saying hello in Mandarin or Japanese count? That's all I can do in these languages. Travelling and talking to the local folks is a great way to learn foreign languages. Otherwise, listening to cassettes or CDs, reading books and magazines, watching TV are also good ways to brush up on your languages.

Hi there Archie0. I only speak one language, that is English. I have tried to learn a little here and there in other languages. I can say a few phrases in Spanish, and answer the basic questions. I can also count to 10. I used to be able to count a little further, but I guess I forgot through the years. You know the old saying, if you don't use it, you lose it. Well, that's kind of the way it is not only with foreign languages, but also with computer languages. I did learn two phrases in Tagalog, when I was in the Philippines. And I can say one phrase in French that is part of a song that I have known since I was in high school. So, basically, if I go to a foreign country, I'm going to need a translator. LOL

I know few international languages like English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Italian. Then, in our country their are many languages per regions and I know to speak Tagalog, Ilonggo, Bisaya, and Chavacano. Mostly the international languages which I could speak and write fluently are English and the rest are basic languages. While in the local dialects I am very fluent in Tagalog and also with the rest of the other dialects. It is good to know other languages as it serves as a bridges toward a better understanding to create camaraderie despite diversity of cultures.

India is a many language country, and as indians, most of them know a minimum of two to three languages. And south Indians know more than 3 languanges, basically those who reside in bangalore and main cities of south India. as for myself, I know to write, kannada-hindi-english-marati and speak kannada, hindi, marati, english, tamil, telugu and a little bit of konkani, malayalam and marwari. And as people from other parts of India settle in bangalore, i am getting to know more languanges like bengali, punjabi urdu etc. and i am eager to learn more languanges.

Well, i'm fluent in speaking Filipino and English. We're studying Chinese in school too so I know a few Chinese words in pinyin. Actually, I was studying Japanese for a month now but I've been busy with school I never had time for it anymore.
