Hello,
First I just want to let you all know that I am not good with politics but this just bother me so much when I saw this news. I thought President Obama promised to pull the troop out of Afghanistan, but it turned out to add more in. I dont understand why? I thought he will focus more on jobs and health cares and much more to help American people. well, for more detail you can click on this link:

This is something that happens often. Most foreign policy promises are lofty. There are even times when there is a lot going on in the military, we will have a presence is some random country, and there will be very little media coverage on it.
It is disheartening that war seemingly has no end, but then again, there is never accountablity for it.

right, it is hard to deal once the country is already in war. It just bother me to see all the news are going on and on about this killing thing. I can feel the pain of their families... It is hurt and very sad to hear

Remember that politicians always talk a lot about what they would like to do when in power and then find they really can't when they get there.
We don't know what he discovered after he was elected and what the advisors told him or what the real factors are with this war.
Maybe its very necessary to end the war with a victory rather than just pull out.

Taskr36 is correct.
Obama was promising to pull troops out of Iraq during his campaign. Very little was said about his plans for Afghanistan EXCEPT for one or two articles that came out right after he made a trip to Afghanistan and they all reported that he was in favor of sending MORE troops to Afghanistan.
Since, he couldn't send more troops to Afghanistan unless he got them from somewhere else, that meant he was planning to rotate the troops in Iraq back home and send the troops SCHEDULED to go to Iraq to Afghanitan instead! But, he never came out and said that or made it part of his campaign, because he would not have gotten the support he got if he had said what he REALLY planned to do.
John McCain was at least honest and open about HIS plans; he didn't hide behind lies and doubletalk like most politicians (including Obama).

It's my undrstanding that he promised an exit strategy. In this, which he delivered on 27th Feb 09, he stated that the US combat mission in Iraq would end by 31st August 2010, but a 'transitional force' to train the Iraqis may stay until the end of 2011.

I think you misunderstood. He promised to have all troops out of IRAQ in 16 months, not Afghanistan. He never said anything about withdrawing troops from there. In fact he said that he felt we should be more focused on that war instead of Iraq. Now, that being said, he did lie about Iraq. He now plans to leave troops in Iraq once combat operations have ceased. He's doing EXACTLY what McCain's plan was despite the fact that he spent the election bashing McCain for it.

Yeah true in all sense but it's one thing you fail to realize if president Obama acts on his plan to pull the american troops out of Afghanistan it will only hurt the U.S in the long run. Reason being it would it would make the U.S appear cowardly and it would lead the terriost to believe that they could run over the U.S and ultimately defeat us and also it would lessen the U.S political power as well.

I think that we have heard promise and promise from every president that no matter what we think we just don't have choice in any of this. It's ultimately 1 person who decides. Sad don't you think?

I know Obama has said he wants us out of Iraq by 2010 or 2011, but I don't remember him setting a time to be out of Afghanistan.

I'm hoping that things are just more complicated than he originally realized, and that it's a work in progress.

That is actually the sad part when it comes to politicians. They promise a whole lot and when they are already elected, they do not deliver the things that they have promised. They succumb to the dictates of well-known and influential people. We still long for the day when a politician really becomes a person of political will and not of political influence.

hello smileonstar,
I'd never believe the war will be over unless they nuke the whole area. Probably Obama might have underestimate the gravity of the situation when it comes to the war on terror. he did promise to get troops out of iraq but for what, so that i'll be transfered to afghanistan. the war will never end. and if they did pull out of afghanistan, the al queda will return forcing US to fight them again.

He said he was pulling out troops from IRAQ and he was going to focus more on Afghanistan and send some troops in that country to fight terrorism. I believe he does want to help Americans with more jobs and better healthcare but think about it. How messed up was this country when he became president? Do you really think that to give more jobs and better healthcare systems to a big country that was already messed up to begin with is that easy? Come on, this is reality and major changes cannot be done in a matter of a few months or even in a few years. Unfortunately our former President left a big pile of crap that needs to be cleaned up and now that President Obama is in power he has to clean it up and take the blame, criticizm, and complaints along with it. Why weren't we complaining of this 8 years earlier? Hmmm... but i understand how you feel when your president says he's going to do something but has yet to deliver, it is dissapointing that's how i felt when Bush said he would find Osama Bin Laden? BY THE WAY HAS ANYBODY SEEN OSAMA BIN LADEN?

Presidential candidates often promise lies to get elected which he did. And now that hes elected he's free to do what he wants. I agree with you one-hundred and fifty percent. The war needs to end. Our troops NEED to come home. Some of them haven't been home since this started.

he was but the thing is that the head of the militery said no that would cause the us harm if he did that infact a good bit came home but the head of scurity said he needs to send more people back because if not then the us will be in big trouble , so no matter what you can't win with this he wants to do one thing but the head of the militery said thats a bad idea so i am not sure what is going to happen now.
