Do you think have some penpals is fun? or you think it's meaningless, because you don't believe long-distance relationship.

I don't have a penpal right now. I am already married. I met my husband in my home country and we had a long distance relationship for nearly 5 years before getting married. So yes, I believe in it since I am a living proof of that. We actually hardly wrote letters to each other. I guess he spent a lot of money calling me and paying for air tickets that he decided it's best we get married. I certainly could not afford paying for those phone bills, let alone see him in another country. I suppose if it is meant to be, then it is meant be no matter how far you are to each other. You will find a way to be together.

I did have for about 5 years, we wrote quite regularly. Then not so often. He contacted me out of the blue and said he was going ot be visiting my state and wanted to come and visit me and my family. It was great to finally meet. We wrote back and forth for a few more years, and then he quit. seems like I always think of my old penpal more at Christmas, really wish he'd make contact again, I miss him.

Sorry to hear about this. Did you try to contact him again and did he ever explain the reasons for his silence?

friend - friends forever
I had a penfriend when I was doing my schooling. I really enjoyed communicating with her. It was a great experience and we would be discussing about many things. We used to share about our interests, talk about hobbies, cultural facts and lots more.. now I do not have a contact with her. But I think having a penpal is a greatest way to develop a broadmind among children. It is also a great way to improve the communication skills.

i don't have any penpal and probably will not have any. perhaps young people like to make penpals. to me, i have other efficient ways to communicate with friends, such as telephone. though i don't have penpals, i believe long-distance relationship. sometimes long-distance relationship is better than face-to-face friendship because long-distance may prevent you from finding your friends' shortcomings.

I surely would like to have a long distance penpal whom I have not seen face to face or even seen his/her face in a pic. If anyone is ready I surely will keep up the good work of retaining the friendship. What do you say? Are you yourself ready for such one? I am from my side.

Hi Huanran, I have next to me a letter that I have just written to someone who shall hopefully become a penpal . I really love writing letters and have written to, I think, 4 other people in the past, one of which I am in touch with via e-mails now. The others I drifted away from because life started to get in our way, it is sad really. I met them all online, the people I ended up writing to. I went on holiday for 4 weeks a few years ago and was without the Internet, so to keep in touch with the friends I had really connected with I asked if I could write letters to them instead, they said yes and so it began. We did that until I returned home and to the Internet. It was such a buzz getting letters through the post, and very much helped to kill time while I was away from home. Alas though when in the normal world of the Internet I found it harder to keep writing to them via letters because fo the time it took, and so we reverted back to e-mails. It won't be an option with this new penpal though so I have hope we will continue to use letters and keep that excitement of actually receiving post for a change lol. As for long distance friendships I believe in that. These days the people I connect with are in other countries and I don't believe it would work otherwise. I find it far less stressful to be in contact with people who won't harass me in reality lol All the best, Dranz

I've only had a pen-pal once, with a little girl over at an elementary school. I found it much more interesting than shooting e-mails back and forth. That's not to say that I don't like e-mails, but to read someone's words, in their own hand writing is an interesting experience. And due to the gap in time between the sent letters, you always had a topic to write about back to your pen-pal.

I haven't had a penpal since elementary school. It was a project we had to do in class. It was really fun and I stayed in touch with my penpal for years after that. I'm not sure what happened, but eventually we stopped writing to each other.
