I have locked myself out of my house once. Me and my boyfriend went to a friends house and had a couple of drinks. When we came home we relized we left locked the doors and left the keys in the house. We didn't have a hide a key so were trying to figure out how to get in without breaking a window. We ended up finding a window that was unlocked and I climbed through it. I was inside at last. It was such a relief when we got inside. I was so worried about having to sleep in my car that night. My boyfriend and I decided to get a hide a key just in case it were to happen again. This way we won't have to worry about ever being locked out again.

oh i have locked my self out for the house before there have been quite a few times where i have forgotten my keys at home and so i couldnt get inside because i forgot my keys so i would have to wait until one of my parents would get home and would let me inside the house, the worst was when i had forgotten them and it was the middle of winter so i had to wait out side to house until about six.
Happy mylotting!

I've done it several times before. Now I make sure a close friend has a copy of our key.

This happened to me at the office. I went out to check on the overhead tank I was filling up and I closed the door behind me, I did not realize that the lock was not undone so when I tried to get back in the door was locked. It was a good thing, that there was a window left open near where my bag was so I was able to fish it out and retrieve the keys.
At home, I won't be able to lock myself out because the door locks are the types that you would not be able to lock without using the keys.

I've both locked myself out of the house and I've been locked out of the house. The most memorable occasion was the time that I was locked out of the house. I had my keys with me, but I didn't have a key to the deadbolt at the time and someone had forgotten that I wasn't home and locked the deadbolt. It was about 2:00 in the morning so there was also no one awake to open the door. I ended up climbing the ladder against the back of the house and climbing in through the small bathroom window. It was quite an experience as when I was going in through the window I almost ended up falling into the toilet.

Over the years I have been guilty of locking myself out of my house. When that happened, I prayed that somebody might have forgotten to lock the back door, but that was hardly ever the case. Of course trying to pry a window open did not help either. Nowadays, i hide a key outside where only I know of. Most of the time, I try not to leave my house without an extra set of keys as well. Nothing like knocking on your own front door and asking the house to let you back in!

hello tuckersheri,
yes indeed, when our kids are still small. we attended a party to my sister near our house and when we came back we realized that we left the key inside. we never left a spare key outside for we thought it's not safe. good thing the window in our room was opened and that it has no screened.
since the window was so small, our youngest kid went inside to open the door. from then on, we are making sure we have the key before leaving the house.

I have never come across a situation of getting locked in a house. But, my friend has faced it. Her brother has locked her inside the house without knowing that she is inside. So, she couldn't come to college for one day. Once I locked my cousin's house from outside and forgot to take the key out. I went to church after that and I was very tensed about it. Later I found that my cousin's husband had the key and I thanked god a lot for it.

Hiding a spare key is always a good idea. I have never locked myself out of the house, but our bedroom. We were rushing to somewhere and I think hubby has locked the bedroom door without realizing it. So, when we got home, I was going up to change my clothes and realized the door was locked. We were thinking hard how to open the door because like you, we didn't have any extra key. Then, my hubby climbed through the window as well. It was not a sliding window or the one you could easily open, but the old fashioned one. So, lucky it was not closed. Now we always place a key outside, afraid that if one of us accidentally locks the bedroom door again it's going to be troublesome like last time.

yes. we were all out of the house to go to church and thought someone brought the key. when we arrived, we found out that we have locked the doors. our windows are designed with grills. what we did was let our youngest son crawl into the house through the window grills and instructed him to open the door from inside. now, if that ever happens again, i hope we don't have to destroy the lock this time... the chilren are now grown-ups ... no way to fit through a window.

i have locked myself out of my apartment a couple of times and there was even a time when i was cooking something and i realized that i was out of salt so i went out to ask my sister, who was in the neighboring apartment. When i came back, i realized that i locked myself out! and i was kind of scared that the house might burn down! lol. Good thing, the landlady was living across our apartment and even though i was feeling stupid, i borrowed her duplicate key and let myself in.

I locked myself out of my house when I was a kid, maybe 12 or 13. I had to use the bathroom so that made it all the more terrible. Oh, and it was raining. After checking with neighbors who had a key to our house, and finding that no one was home that afternoon, I pried a window open in the back of the house, this was after I had to cut a screen to get to the window. I didn't wet my pants but it was close. I was never busted for the broken screen either. I have never locked myself out of the house since then but since there is always someone home the door is rarely locked.

I have never locked my own self out of the house, but I 2 had boyfriends who locked me out! The bad part is, I was the homeowner, not them! Needless to say I am not with either one of these guys anymore!

I have done in the past, One time I remember is when I came home from work one day and I had left my keys at home as I was in a rush to leave in the morning that I forgot to find my keys, I thought my mum would be home as it was her day off and I got back and she was not home. Luckily I had my mobile phone with me and was able to get hold of her, she was at her sisters who lives a few hundred metres from the house so I popped over to pick up her key so I could let myself in.
I am sure everyone has had a moment where they have forgotten their key or something else they were going to take before they went out.
