When I was younger in science class we had to dissect a frog. I did not want to do it because I never dissected anything in my life. The thought of cutting a dead animal into sections to see what looked like really grossed me out. I kept thinking how am I going to do this so I won't be so grossed out. I knew I could not say I could not do it due to the fact I would get a zero. I ended up doing it and it was not as bad as I thought. I really did feel sorry for the frog even though it was dead. I always wondered it they killed frogs on purpose so that we are able to dissect them in class. I want to think that they don't but I really don't know. I think it would be wrong if they did do that. I would not dissect anything ever again if I had a choice.

yes we did frogs. We also did cow hearts which was a little cooler. My kids though on the home schooling they get to do it digitally online which is cooler.

Cow hearts? Sounds dreadful! That's even worse than frogs in my opinion. I would have never been able to dissect a cow heart. I think I might be able to do it digitally online though. That sounds interesting.

well having eaten them before and yes helped cook them this wasn't a stretch for me and most of the other kids from our area as many hunted with their folks.

I had never dissected a frog and thank God for that! I would absolutely die if I had to do so... I love animals of all kinds. I don't think I would have had the guts to hurt an animal, nevermind dissect one! I can't imagine what you probably went through.

No, I have never dissected any animals before. I always thought that I will be able to dissect a frog at school. But I don't remember doing it. I guess the teacher was not in the mood to do that kind of activity during my time, so she skipped it lol. But there were lots of human and animal body parts that were displayed in our classroom.

They did this in the school I went to as well and that was over forty years ago. They also did roaches and other kinds of stuff.
Last Saturday I was in the fish market and bought a fish and the vendor gutted it right there in front of me.
I asked him to slice it up and it was a salmon. So he opened it and pulled out the insides. It appears that salmons have a lot of entrails and I saw these thrown aside into a bucket.
It was gory no end.
You need a strong stomach in this world.

I've never dissected anything, in school or out. But I think it wouldn't be too bad. Well, at least not for me. The frog, of course, would be very unlucky. I think dissection is popular in American schools, but here it isn't common practice. Or at least it wasn't when I was still in school. It's been years since I graduated so things might have changed already.

That was a long time ago. We dissect frogs i n the lab. At home, we also do that as kids. No, I have not done that for a very long time. Yes, I do slaughter chickens when I was a kid. Now we just buy them off the supermarkets.

I've had to dissect worms, a frog and a fetal pig. I'm not sure it really helps students understand the functions of the body any better than if they just learned it in a book.

Hello!
yes .I have an experience about this. When i was young, i was playing by the river. Suddenly i saw many tadpoles swimming in the river,so i catch a tadpole from the river to play .what surprised me most was that the tadpole's tripe was transparent.we could saw its intestine. At that time ,i felt unbelievable .Then i dissected the tadpole but just for my curiosity.
That's my first time to dissect an animal. Now i look back to this , i will feel cruel and regret about this.
You are right. Sometimes ,we had to do something we don't like ,because we have no choice.

i dont have any problem in disecting any animal just to see wat it has got and its not that i am cold hearted things like that its just that every part or everything in this world is for experimenting and its sole purpose is to experiment it and get the results done without any second thoughts

I'm in medical field so when I was studying in college we dissected just one animal, a frog, the most common. I just participated and wait for my groupmate to do the first cut. It didn't grossed me out it's just the smell that I can't stand. The formaline hurts my nose and sting my eyes. I feel sorry for the animal but its for science so I think he can understand.

I find it hard to imagine that pupils at any school were actually put through that! I never had that experience whilst I was at school, I would have probably found the whole expereince quite horrible! Having said that I suppose it's one real way of actually learning something about anatomy. Some people can tollerate cutting into an animals flesh but I definitely would not fall into that category! Hi,
While I empathise your feelings, it is inevitable that you had to complete whatever assignments are given to you as part of the curriculum. Having studied Biology during my College days, I have dissectd animals like frog, cockroach, mouse, silkworms etc. I now feel sad for having done that, but it was inevitable. I would not be doing that now, if asked to.
