Serious discussion, no funny stuff allowed

Yeah right! How often do you find yourself in the middle of a serious discussion and somebody comes along and cracks you up? Or you're in the middle of a funny discussion and somebody comes along and is so serious that it's obvious they totally missed the point? Or somebody gets offended that somebody's being funny in the middle of a serious discussion? I read something yesterday, no recollection what it was, by somebody who had taught college. He made the remark that in his years of teaching, not one of his student's minds worked the same way. You see? We're all unique and different, just like everybody else. What do you think of them apples?

Hi dawnald, I haven't seen that of late but when there was a serious discussion, it really annoys me when someone comes along and post something quite rude, that makes my blood boil. Tamara

I don't mind if somebody comes along with a funny comment, but I agree with you about rude comments!

Hiya Doll, I think we are all different. Yes, it is. Like in this serious discussion, I'm trying to act funny by calling you a doll, LOL. Our minds are all at crossroads. We mean one thing, and say the other and think about one thing and others are along a different plane. Stuff like that. I think it's a nice mushroom mix, if you get what I mean. See, I'm rambling. You are on a serious discussion and here I am rambling. Ha..

I used to put tags on my discussion that marked it as a "serious discussion" I've not done that very often for awhile though. Now I realize that no one is ever going to be completely serious on here, and as well they shouldn't. It's more fun to be a goof ball, if you ask me! lol!

I think it also makes discussions go a lot farther then they probably would if they were more serious.

I think it's a shame that people can't get into their lighter side no matter how serious things are but some folks just can't do it. Everyone needs to learn to laugh at themselves but some folks never can. We all take things differently but that doesn't mean we are right or wrong all the time .

I don't care what kind of discussion I am in, I love it when someone injects some humour into the conversation. You, yourself seem to frequently accomplish this. I try not to miss the point toooo often, but every once in awhile I "misread" a conversation and end up looking like a dufus, but, oh well. I also find it amusing when I respond in what I think is a friendly and compassionate manner, and then somebody takes what I say out of context and rips my face off. At first it upset me, now I just giggle and move on.

:-) Sometimes I miss the point or I zone in on one point in many and don't address all the points. Oh well, if I look like a dufus I look like a dufus. It bothers me when somebody rips my face off, but oh well...

I think it is pretty accurate, and some days my mind does not work at all. Or better yet, it keeps on working even when I stop. You should see the interesting things I type when I fall asleep here at the keyboard. Sometimes it is sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss but other times there are actual words, like maybe I am typing out my dream. I have never posted that stuff, perhaps I should and then I could give someone something to really complain about.

"serious" - "no funny stuff" Hhmmmmmm. Have you ever posted a serious discussion that stayed serious? I doubt it. My Daily Dose of Dawn has brought many smiles again. Thanks. I only have Pink Lady apples and they are too good to use to make sauce. Do you have Pink Ladies there?

I find so often here on myLot that many times I have posted a facetious discussion and I get some really funny responses because the reader takes every word literally. Especially when I (think I am ??) obviously giving sarcastic or a "tongue in cheek" posting.

I'm a big joker myself, but sometimes people, even some of my friends get offended. I guess it's because of my 'libertarian' way, as my jokes can reach places you've never been before. Or maybe I'm just simply an jerk, who knows I used to get offended too and take life too serious, but now in the most academico-philosophical discussions that I may have, even toilet humor is allowed

Because making fun of awkward or taboo functions of our body makes us nor savages nor intellectuals. It makes us... uhm... people? I don't know, maybe it's about tastes I guess.

Maybe so. There was a joke I particularly liked on the subject of gas. To women, gas is an annoying and sometimes embarrassing side effect of digestion. To men, gas is a constant source of amusement and male bonding.

I think he is right.....just imagine if we all like the same type of guy...he would die at an early age from being jumped by a bunch of h@rny women....so it's a very good thing we are unique....otherwise the world would truly be a very boring place!

I think that is a part of discussion. Sometimes there are people easily get offended. But we need to know that there is proper situation to consider. If in the middle of discussion where we can talk some funny things we must be treat it as funny and not talk seriously for not being offended...have a nice day!

Yup! My friend, it depend upon the discussion we have. If they are get offended that is on their burden of understanding about the topics on the discussion...were not responsible for them if they found the discussion is really upset them..have a nice day!

Peel, core and and slice the apples and put the snicker mixture on top and then bake in over for about 15 mins at 350. Can you do that and sent too me.? Pretty please. Oh, send them immediately they come out of the oven as I want to eat the dessert warm with ice cream.

If while a serious discussion is going on and someone makes a funny comment... I would feel some of the tension is released and actually a little bit of laughter would be welcome... but if anybody is offended or acts serious while we are talking funny, I would like to think why did it offend him or her and will be careful next time... cannot act funny when someone's hurting....

I like to throw a bit of humour into a serious discussion. Some people can get too serious and need to lighten up! I am always tactful though and never do it if it is inappropriate, like someones dying or something. I do believe that a bit of good mannered fun can help some of these people that always like to talk about serious things. I know people that get really worked up over the silliest little things that people say in conversation with them, when if they just threw a little bit of fun in there to lighten the mood up, so much anger and hate could be avoided!

well, anyway its not my concern as long as i get some comments on my discussions and that they are willing o share their view point,am satisfied. it depends too of some people find it serious and some thinks it as funny.well for me am funny to all discussion taking it causal and to the point.i think its a best way to earn some discussions too,to be nice to all,and response according to the discussions, well i like to comment a lot, there is nothing to be offended of unless if it were tmeant to be just complain thats all..
