Are you looking too far? Most of the people said that we have to look ahead-- plan our future, dream and act on it. But do you often feel discourage when things don't turned out the way we wanted? Sometimes what is happening is exactly opposite of what we planned, no matter how hard we tried. Does it ever cross your mind that maybe you are looking to far? Which is enough for you to forget and neglect the things that are on your face right now? Are we blinded with fantasies and too much desires?
What do you think is better, to expect the worst or to think positively? What do you think will work well?
I think both can have good outcomes. I believe combining that two opposite thinking, would do wonderful results which we can hardly imagine. We should expect worst so that we can make ourselves ready to whatever problems that might arise. Problems that could lead to another problem and another problems... Thinking that way would help us avoid disappointments and lose of hope. But we shouldn't stop there. We still need to thinking positively afterwards, so that we can be able to surpass all the hardship and trials.
It is not on how we planned our future but on how we adopt on every situation that we are dealing on. I think we should bear in mind that it is okay to dream and plan but too much of both can lead to disappointments.

...Hi lovelyn_medrano, I think that in life, we need to have one word which can help us through many difficult situations, that word in this instance would be flexibility. You have to be flexible enough, that when things go your way, you are not so giddy that you lose sight of the fact that things could change. When things go badly on the other hand, we have to be flexible enough, to not get so depressed that we are unable to believe that things will get better. We will survive. :o) Take care.

Yes I agree with you, flexibility is a must. But I just like to add, aside from that flexibility, we must be also open for challenges. I believe, fighting spirit is also a must have attitude.

...Well, I just want to say that you stated something that is so vital to our lives. When we are ready to come into the world, we have to fight to be born, when it's time to die, we have to fight in order to live, at least a little longer. As we go through life, if we don't fight, we lose out on a lot of good things, you have to fight for what you care about. Excellent addition to the conversation. Thank you. Take care.

A person must think positively whenever he or she encounters any problem in life or even planning his or her future. In this way, positive vibes and things will eventually reflect on his or her life. This will also help a person fulfill whatever dreams he or she has. A positive outlook in life will help a person to become succesfull. On the other hand, a person should not always expect the best either, for he or she might just be disappointed if it will not turn out the way he or she wanted it to be. It's not also right to expect the worst for it will bring negative vibes.

It is you again santos_mlirs! It is so nice to hear from you. Thank you for sharing your views. Truly positive thinking attracts positive things. But never too much for that can lead to disappointment.

What I usually do is expect the worst but hope for the best. And whatever happens, it doesn't really make me depress

I think its better to expect the worst but not being too pessimistic. Expecting the worst can help you prepare for it before it even happened. It doesn't hurt to be on the negative side from time to time as long as you have a positive outlook that you can overcome the worst

To add on, expecting worst can sometimes prevent things from coming true, since we are prepared, before it happens we were able to do something about it. Prevention is better than cure. It is good to expect the worst scenario but never lose hope at the same time.

I agree with your statement about combining the two. I also think non-attachment to the results is a must. For instance, if you want to achieve a certain goal and it doesn't happen, you might get upset. Why? Know that whether you achieved it or not it was the work you put in that counted. We should learn to enjoy the process and not just the outcome. If we do get what we want, we just role onto something else. Desires are never fully exhausted. The only way out of it is to do what you need to do and not care for the results. Leave it to God and just concentrate on the present moment. That's my philosophy anyway.

Non attachment to outcomes--- that is ideal but I think it is a bit hard to do. It is hard especially if we put too much effort, time and energy to the matter. Yes we do learn from our experience and that is the good thing about it, we learn in spite and despite of. However, I think I cannot avoid not being depressed neither being attached to the situation.
Oh! It is really hard for me greatsasuke.

I always wanted to think postively, but it's quite hard sometimes when you face some difficulties, usually I will think the worse outcome that I would expect first rather than thinking of better ways of encountering it. It's quite a normal incident for everyone in my opinion. Most people would rather expect the worse to come 1st.

That is a normal attitude of people. People get so stressed out before the real problem arises.

My idea is expect the best but plan for the worst. Negative outcomes must not discourage people from dreaming and planning and working them out. Things that are within our control, we must do our best. Things that are beyond, we just have to leave them to the Almighty. Part of planning are setting up fall backs just in case something goes wrong. Plan B, as some would call it.
have fun

Very well said manong05! After doing and trying so hard to fix the situation and thigs are not turning well still, it is really wise to surrender it to the Lord. God will work wonders beyond our thinking.

hi lovelyn, for me, think positively is better, if you think positively positive reaction or positive side happen, of course there are some unexpected worst thing happen but it doesn't mean that you need to expect it..in our lives there are some sacrifices and trials, everything happen for a reason, trials give us strength not to let us down but to aim high and to stand up again and again,,,don't expect worst thing but assume it that God has a reason why it happens and he will not let it happen if he knows that you can't handle it... God Bless lovelyn, have a good day and happy mylotting.....^___^

Things are really happening for a reason. Trials and hardship make us a better person. It make us more matured and responsible. Trials make us learn and understand so many things. Thanks 4my1nonly. God bless you too.

No matter how negative our life can be, we have to stay positive. We can choose to mope in our problems and complain about the government lack but it will not help anything at all. We have to stay positive to keep get pulled down. We can raise the issue of the present situation but after that we have to stay focus.

Yes staying focus is the foundation of successful life. It is like seeing work until the end will help us in every thing we do. Thanks for sharing jerimiyah! Nice point there.

I always try to think positively because when I have expected the worst I always end up stressed out and then things never turn out to be the worst so it turns out that I have stressed myself for nothing. However, I also try not to look too far into the future and instead try to take things one day at a time because that seems to be the best for me as opposed to thinking really far out. The one single long term goal that I have right now is to have our house paid off by the time I am forty so that is 10.5 years away, but other than keeping that in mind, I am trying to do things one day at a time.

Lovelyn_medrano I agree with what you have wrote.
One should prepare for the worst could happened to them in their work so that if even worst happens then he can easily surpass all the difficulties.
Thinking in a positive way after something worst happened is just a tonic for a person to come out from his depression. Why to take a medicine after suffering so that you can prevent it...
This is what I think /...

Taking medicine? Like having a good vacation or treating yourself for relaxation after a hard work day. I think that is a great idea. We should always look forward to it so that we can at least break the ice a bit.
Thank you mohan89 for sharing your opinion.

I have to say I like to think positive for the most part, however I am a bit of a realist and understand that things can go wrong and you have to expect the worst at certain times in life. I think that negative things happen for a reason just like positive. I try very hard to learn the lessons presented to me no matter what the outcome. I love to dream big and expect great things to happen but also enjoy disappointments because I am usually happy with the outcome once I have given it time to settle in.

Learning from difficult situation is a good attitude. Whatever the outcomes will be what matter most is that we have learned and got something from it. After some hard days caused by situations, what a relief and achievement if we surpassed it all.

as the bible says many are the plans of man but not a plan of God.thats y we well fall into disappointment.Gods wants us to submit everything in minds and in hearts he well derict us into a rigth path.
it also says... what you think is what you are.you better think positvely.

With regards to this problem, it is better "to think positively" than "to expect the worst". Why? simply because being a positive thinker you can immediately find solutions on some circumstances that will come into your lives. To expect the worst is just making your lives into a miserable one. Wether we like it or not, we are confronted with many problems, trials, and even difficulties in our lives. It doesn't mean that we will immediately expect the worst but rather, develop your mind to think positively. Although our lives are full of troubles but we should remember that GOD is always there to guide us; HE is there to give us stregth; HE is there to make our dreams come true; and HE is there to give us hope... Just think positively!!! GOD BLESS!!!

In most uncertain situations, I tend to hope for the best and plan for the worst. The best outcome doesn't usually need an "escape plan" so if you do hope for the best and plan for the worst, you should (almost) always be in fairly good shape.
@lovelyn_medrano (3070)

We cannot solve the real problem by doing an "escape plan". It might slow down the occurance of the real problem but surely you will need to face and deal with the problem. And sometimes doing escape plans lead to a more serious problem, we never know until it hits us already.

Hi there mylotter,
No matter how hard our life, just focus on positive thinking, cause our future depend on what we plan. Better dont waste our time for something unnecessary even to expect the worst, it doesnt help at all.
We are good of quality if we capable to solve our problems, dont ever give up, believe yourself you can do anything the best.
Thanks and Good Luck :)

LOW EXPECTATIONS = HAPPINESS. Well, i'm just kidding but sometimes it works this way.. you are waiting for something to happend and you are expecting a lot and you dont know what's going to happend.. if it doesn't result or work as you planned or as you wanted you might feel bad.. so you better try to be realistic and if things are not going the way you wanted don't give up, try again and be positive :)

Low expections = happiness? well yes, sometimes it really works. When you are not expecting much of it and it turn out to be great, surely you will feel very good but, on the other hand, I think it is hard to expect less if we put so much effort on our work.

I can not agree your point any more. Facing the uncertain future everyone has to prepare for both of the good or bad events. Positive thinking is important for us to build the confidence and make the plan for the future. Without it we might be afraid of pulling the our trigger at the right time and lose the good opportunity in our life. Preparing for the bad outcomes is also necessary. No one in the world could go through everything without any toubles. We have to know how to deal with these problems in our life. Sometimes this is more important than to have the positive thinking. Knowing the loss we can afford when we are making decsion and how to deal with the worst situation will always help us overturn the mistakes we made in the past. In a nutshell we need to be neutral and objective to the world and ourselve. Only in this way we will not be in the state of overconfidence and over depressed.

Frustrations cannot be eliminated when things turned out the way we want it to be. However, I think that is it always effective to expect the good and bad aspects of things so that when it hit us, we won't get too affected by it and in terms we will be prepared when something bad happens.
3 years ago, I've put up an internet copy and a copy center business. It was running well and money is pouring. However, I've checked the trend and learned that there are now computer being sold at 3,000+ for the whole computer package/unit - these are Surplus computers from Korea/Japan. And then, I've seen a lot of TV commercials offering broadband connection - Smart and Globe and those USB plug-it and then the capabilities of the 3G/GPRS phones to access the net FREE! Imagine that in a year or two, most people will be encouraged to buy those second hand computers and then they will no longer go to my shop for typing jobs, instead they will do it on their home. And in 2-3years, the broadband connection will be widely available. And tada! It's now available in most places here and not only that, there are now 5-6 more computer shops that has been operating just this year. But I have not been too disappointed since I've expected this but it makes me sad really.
What I did was to study again, that was 2 years ago and aimed for another goal. So now, I am a graduating student nurse and been thinking positively for my future. I just hope that I'll pass the board exam so that I can start working at a Review Center or be a Clinical Instructor. Which will come handy to me since I've got several connections. :)
I think that setting goals and seeing what will happen in the future - whether is good or bad is necessary so that when things doesn't happen the way we expect it, we will be ready.

Hi NurseMathilda! You are right, we must expect the unexpected. Inevitable, in life we suddenly need to face situations. I also think that if we learn to do this, we might somehow avoid some risk that might arise in the future. Like in your case, you did not relax yourself because of the smooth flow of your business. It is good that you do market check and promotions once in a while.
It is nice to know also that you still continue your study in spite of you have a business already. I know you can pass the board exam. I can see that you are a hardworking girl and you work hard for your ambitions. That is really the key to success, doing your responsibilities and shares. Wish you success.

In certain situations it's best to expect the worst and hope for the best, as the saying goes. If the worst happens, then we were prepared for it. If the best happens, we can be thankful.

It pays to be prepared. We cannot control all situations so it is better to have plan b and plan c when things get worst. By that way, we can be sure no matter what happens there is still hope for us because somehow we had think about it before it happens.
