Are you a Light Sleeper? Heavy Sleeper?

The slightest noise would wake me up.. unless if I'm really really tires...
in fact, even if I'm so tired, I still find myself easily awakened by almost about anything...
In contrast, my brother sleeps like a log... even if you light a dynamite on his ear and he wouldn't notice...
I envy people who gets really good sleep every night...
I wish to be able to sleep like that even for just one day in a week...
--
being a light sleeper has its advantages too...
it could come in handy when there are emergencies or when you need to get up really early for something very important... you might even get up ahead before the alarm goes off...
if you are a heavy sleeper... no alarm clock would probably work that best for you...
but then... it has its advantage too... getting all the rest you need...
---
which are you?

i get lazy the whole day after that and i waste one whole day...
i tried the herbal supplements that are said to help with our sleep and all... i dont think they're working either...
I used to sleep better when i was younger...so much work did this to me,

When people are already in their dreamland I am still here with my computer. As I advance in age, my sleep become lighter and lesser. I would only sleep when my eyes are tired and sleepy and that is at the wee hours of the morning.

hi there zan!
that's what i heard too... as our age advances we tend to sleep for less and less hours..
but oh god...i am 31 in the next few days..i am too young to sleep this less... but i cant help it..i have so much to do and i cant squeeze them all in 24 hours... so i tend to compromise some of my sleep hours.

I'm a fairly light sleeper. I've gotten better the past two years, I don't wake up at every little noise. That's because there are no longer kids in my house, my sons are in college now. For 20 years I awoke at the drop of a pin two rooms away! Now, with nobody to watch over, I sleep much better. But I miss my sons!

Hi dragon...
wow..that is a big price to pay for sleeping a lot better...
I guess having kids does that to us... we tend to cmpromise our rest time and all to make sure we get things done....
..and even on our sleep, we are sort of watchful over things and the time... so we tend to be awaken that easily..

I would say im definitely a heavy sleeper. Once my head hits the pillow I'm out like a light. I would probably sleep through an explosion. I work late nights at a cinema so by the time I get to bed at the weekend the birds are chirping. My girlfriend says I snore really bad too. The only thing that can pull me from a heavy sleep is if one of the kids wakes up, somehow I have an inbuilt radar to alert me when they wake up.
Nice conversation you have started here.

hello there, well im in between. i cant decide weather im a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper. when i feel tired, like working all the day i will sleep and not awake even when an alarm is close to my ears:).... but as an average i sleep for may be 6 to 7 hr a day ....:)
to be frank light sleeper has no advantages at all because you will not need to an alarm to wake you up (you will already be awaken from anything alse). light sleeper usually sleeps may be 3 to 4 hr per night so im sure that you don't need an alarm ...:)
god be with you

hello potofgold
Good to hear from you. So you are the light sleeper. Well, I am just the opposite. I can sleep thru anything like a storm or big noises on the out side. I do get up pretty easy with the alarm clock when I have to. But let me tell you something. My husband has to get up around 5 every morning. When I know that I don't have to get up with him then I never hear that alarm go off for him, but if it is set for me then I get up right away. Isn't that strange..

I too am a very heavy sleeper, and the same goes for me with the alarm business. I only wake up if its my alarm that's ringing. I guess it's that my brain recognizes which alarm is ringing, and subconsciously, it decides whether to wake up or not based on that.

hi rp!!
wow..you do know how to enjoy your sleep...
i am not used to sharing my room, nor my bed with anybody... and i find it hard to sleep if it's not my bed...it takes a while for me to finally get knocked out...
and when i wake up somewhere in the middle... ugh..it is impossible for me to go back to sleep.
maybe beacause i have so many things in my mind...
I wish i could have even a day this week where i could sleep like you...
i do take sleeping aids at times.. i do not get good results the days after though, so i tend to avoid them.

that would mean a migraine attack the next day.

hi patofgold I am a very light sleeper, someone opening the door and letting in light to my bedroom, or a caregiver coming
in at one in the morning always wakes me. My ditsy roommate turns on a little flashlight and bumps around in the dark and that wakes me. she sleeps soundly although she claims she only slept a few hours but so help me she naps in the morning and in the evening then expects to sleep another nine hours, cannot be done.

Hi pat,
I am a light sleeper as well, I even wake when my cat walks across my bed, but my hubby can sleep away and nothing would wake him, as soon as his head hits the pillow he is out light a light, but I can't do that, it takes me a long time to get some sleep and then I am a light sleeper.

I can say that I'm a heavy sleeper especially when I'm tired from work or a certain activity. My brothers also sleep like a log. My boyfriend is a heavy sleeper. An alarm clock couldn't wake him up. It's really difficult to wake him up.

I can't even decide whether I'm a light sleeper or heavy sleeper. Well, maybe I should describe my condition : sometimes when I feel so so very tired, I take a sleep and then I wake up more less 5 hours later. But, when I don' feel pretty tired, I mean when I don't do much activities, I will wake up more less 10 hours after I sleep. It's the other way around. LOL.
So, which one am I ? I prefer describing myself as heavy sleeper to light one.

hi there charlies...
seems to me you are a heavy sleeper...if you can sleep up to 10 hours.. wow that's a lot of sleep time, and i wish i can have that much of sleep everyday...
too bad i am stuck with about 5-6 hours the most... sometimes it is less than that... I have been doing that for some time now... I need to work and get a lot of things done...
but we have to get up and do what needs to be done...

When my children were babies then I would wake up before they even started to cry for a feed or toothache - anything really. I was also a light sleeper during the teen years and would stay awake until they were all home safe and sound. I have had problems sleeping recently but this was stress related and last night I slept for 9 hours and I don't think that I would have woken up for anything. Wanted to sleep through the alarm too.

hi cynth...
No matter what time i go to bed at night..i wake up at 5-5:30 in the morning.. I have gotten used to that coz my son's classes starts at 7am and I have to fix him breakfast and pack his lunch, help him prepare to school and all...
on weekends i wake up still at the same hours ... my body clock sort of have developed the routine.
but i could never go back to sleep once i wake up so I just head on the computer and do my work.

hi patofgold, for my case i am a bit of both actually. the only thing is that it depends on where i am and when it is. if i am at home but its a weekday i tend to be a light sleeper , specially when i am taking naps during lunch time at the office. but when friday stirks. surely i will be knock down cold saturday morning. my heavy sleeping is turned on and i can really sleep the whole day away. funny but weird but i thinks thats just how my body clocks goes.

i am so jealous of you...
i cannot enjoy really long hours of sleep even on weekends.. there is just so much to do and there is much work...i can't squueze i everything in 24 hours a day... so i tend to compromise some of my sleep time...
i think i sleep lightly because i think about eveyrhthing that needs to get done even when i'm in bed.
I wish i can enjoy a cold staurday morning like you.

I am such a light sleeper that the least little noise awakens me. Once I am awake, I can never go back to sleep even when I try and try. It does not matter what time it is, or how much sleep I have or have not had. This results in a very difficult time because some days I am just exhausted.
On the flip side, I am never awakened by the shrill of an alarm clock. I would be very handy should the house happen to catch on fire, or the house got broken into, or what have you.
I would prefer to take my chances with fires and thieves, and just get a good nights sleep.

..not so good for my migraines
but hey, you're right... would come in handy in emergencies..

Hi patofgold, I guess I'm lucky, as I can drop off to sleep quickly, nearly every night, unless I have something on my mind thet is bothering me. I sleep well, and usually wake up early, and refreshed. However, this wasn't always the case. Years ago, when I had a stressful job, I did have a problem sleeping.

Sounds like you have a real stressful job. on't let your salary affect your family, or your health. It happens too often. Take care, and good luck.

Yes, I too am a very light sleeper. The slightest noise out of the ordinary will wake me, and if a light goes on somewhere in the house - we have glass at the top of each door that lets light shine from one room into another.
I haven't used and alarm clock since I was about 15 years old, when I slept very heavilly, then one day, I started waking up around 5:30 each morning. I go to be abound 11 - 11 40 and still wake up at 5:30. If I want to wake up earlier, all I have to do is to think about what time I need to wake up before I go to sleep and I will do so.
When I first started sleeping so little, I was worried about my health, but even though all the research says that small amounts of sleep will damage our health, I have done very well without sleeping long hours each night. - Derek

I used to get migraines regularly but I don't any more. I looked to my diet and cut out all processed foods and foods that had added sugar, and I practice meditation that stills the mind. Meditation takes a lot of practice for some people, but if they persevere, it does work. I have a link to meditation instructions on my profile here at myLot, for anyone who is interested.. - Derek

My husband sounds like your brother he can sleep anywhere and like a rock. I on the other hand am a light sleeper,it could be because of my daughter seizures and the fact that ever noise I have to go run check up on her.
I don't mind it too much as it does come in handy.

Hi babyangj...
i agree with you... we tend to become light sleepers when we think so much of our children...
i see you worry so much for your daughter... and I really feel for you. I even go crazy if my son feels ill for a day or two.
i believe we tend to get less sleep when we think of things so much... and mothers always do.

I would really like to be a heavy sleeper when I want to. I am often a light sleeper, especially when I have to do something the following day. Then again, there are times wherein I would ask my folks or my siblings to wake me up, same thing with my colleagues before, and they would have a hard time waking me up.
I wish that I would get more sleep than eight hours, during weekends wouldn't be too much to ask, I suppose..

I'm so very very heavy in the way I sleep. My Financee's alarm will not wake me up, she get's up 20 minutes before I do as she takes the first shower in the morning. I have my phone alarm up as high as it goes, which is loud, usually works but sometimes it will not wake me right away. I can sleep during parties as well if I drop off where I lay.
My Fiancee sleeps very very lightly in contrast to me. If I move whilst asleep in the night she can be awake for a hour after. It's not really fair on her, but we can't help the way we sleep.

Hi Pat,
I can fall asleep when there are people around me in a party. I get a sort of sleep attack now and again when my eyes just feel really heavy, specially on trains!
If I'm at a party, even in the same room as everyone else I can fall asleep if I've had a few drinks and get one of these sleepy moments. Then it's hard for me wake up easily unless someone tries, or I just wake up naturally a few hours later. I've even managed to fall asleep in clubs!
