My laptop has this problem, too. I changed my performance settings to the highest like I was told. I asked someone at BestBuy and they told me that since I did not completely let my computer charge and completely die when I first purchased it, it shot my battery. May just need to buy a new battery. Hope this helps!

hi,
Previously when i bought my laptop i also thought the battery is having some problem as it could give only 3 hours backup. Then i changed the power options which you can find in controlpanel Hardware and sounds. Here i changed the power option to PowerSaver and i also reduced my brightness option. After doing this now i am getting full 4 hours of backup. But another thing to know is when ever your battery becomes older its backup capacity will also decrease gradually then you may sometimes need to replace it and i think this is a common point which everyone knows.
If you overcharge your battery it will also be harmful and its life will be short. Hope these points can solve some of your problem if still the problem exist then some other problem must be there.

I am currently using my sister's laptop. When she bought it, it gave more than 3 hours backup.... but when I acquired it, it can't last even 10 minutes! That's because she almost always had the AC supply on. So, in my opinion, give the battery a good cycle of (dis)charging and it will keep it fit. Also try the battery calibration process stated above.

If there is nothing wrong with your battery (technically)... then try the - LOW PERFORMANCE - mode.. - with reduced brightness, graphics and all.. [with high performance mode - your graphic card drains a lot of charge.. that it consumes at double the rate of average usage..].. Hope this helps.. thnx

I have a problem about my laptop too. It only lasts about an hour whenever its unplugged. I will try that advice of 5 times full discharging of the battery an hope it works. But if not maybe I got to buy another one. I always plug my laptop because I find it very annoying when it shuts down on very important task I am doing.

I have also faced this situation... The idea was told me by the customer care.
The name of the process is battery calibiration. All you have to do is , fully charge your laptop battery and then drain the battery to 0% . (The laptop should automatically go off) . Do this for five times and you'll definitely feel difference in your battery life..
Also to have more life on your battery, always after full charging the laptop battery, do discharge it to 20% then again charge the battey.
