Hi Tom I have always used Windows XP and McAfee Anti Virus (I think, for the last 6-7 years, and I have had no problems at all). I personally use all the 3 browsers. Lately, I am starting to like Firefox and Chrome better. Chrome is fast & easy on eyes and Firefox has good features. BSNL connection should be fine for them. Coming to multimedia: For Audio/Music: Windows Media Player, iTunes if you have iPod, if you want audio editing softwares you will have to be a little more specific about your needs. For Video: VLC Player, Windows Media Player, DIV X Player For Photos: Picasa 3 - simple and easy editing, Adobe Photoshop - for more complex needs For Documents: Adobe Reader, MS Word/Office For Burning CD's/DVD's: Sonic is good For Chat: Yahoo Messenger, Gtalk These are the softwares I am using at present. You will find more options if you research some more. I hope I have helped at least a little bit. Good luck!!

mmmm everyone is going to give you there personal preference in those, what you need to do is look at each and every OS you might be interisted in and make you decision on which OS your going to use. ONce you make the OS decision then you can go in and choose the other items

It sounds like you need to do a lot more research before you choose an operating system for your computer. It's not like deciding what you're going to wear for the day--you need to choose an operating system that will fulfill your needs and be compatible with all of your computer's hardware. There's more to a computer than its processor, RAM, and hard drive. You need an operating system that has drivers for your video card, sound card, modem, Ethernet port, and other components, too. Otherwise, you're going to be stuck with a computer that's pretty much useless.

Hi tom, I think windows xp professional is best for your system. It is user friendly.I think avira anti virus software is better for your system. It is automatically updated when your connected with internet connection. It is good for find virus. And Mozilla firebox browser is better for your system compare to others.I think photo shop,flash,3dmax are used for your multimedia use.But these are very big GB softwares. If you want your system working faster then avoid to install big software's.For photo editing photo shop software is better.I think nero is better.i don't know other for that purpose.

Hey Tom.. For Operating system, u shud use Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2, & for some eye candy u cud also try Windows Vista. For Windows XP, Avira is a grt Anti-Virus as it consumes a very little of resources. For browser, Mozilla Firefox is the only choice, be it BSNL or Airtel. For Multimedia, u can use klitecodec pack or VLC. Depends ehich suits you. I personally prefer klitecodec. For simple photo editing u can use Picasa. But for a pro like feel, no replacement for Adobe Photoshop CS. CD writing software except nero can be Roxio Suite & its gud as I personally use it. Other softwares can be depending on ur usage such as Office nd all. Hope it helps you.
