Dear MyLotters,
I love singing and I always sing a song for my son,be it,day time or night time.
Since my son is a Barney's fans, I always join him to watch Barney together and automatically I picked up quite a number of Barney's songs.
Before I have a kid, I don't even know about Barney.During my childhood time, there is no Barney yet.
I also sing for my son some Indonesia's nursery rhymes. and this few days, he is trying to pick up one Indonesia's nursery ryhme : cicak cicak di dinding(lizard on the wall). That is one of my favourite childhood song.
I do bought some vcd's nursery ryhmes for my son and sametime I can learn all those songs from there.
Everynight, I will sing some songs for him before his bedtime : twinkle twinkle little stars,ABCs,Are you sleeping,Mary had a little lamb, Ba Ba black sheep, and some Barney's song.He enjoyed alot while I am singing for him.Sometimes, he will follow me sing, but of course, he still not able to sing well.
I do enjoy alot singing with my son and we have so much fun spending our times together.
Share with me,do you sing for your kids everyday ??
What is your favourite nursery ryhmes?
Do you enjoy singing with your kids?
Happy MyLotting !!

When I was a child, an aunt would sing with me and taught me nursery rhymes, I didn't see her often but the songs stuck with me. When my daughter and grand daughter came to live with me, I sang those same songs to my grand daughter. I am so grateful to my aunt for teaching me those songs, they gave my grand daughter and me a lot of wonderful moments.

My grand daughter and I are very close. She's 12 now and she wants to be with me as often as possible. Her brother, on the other hand, gets bored here, but we have a policy of reading to him at bedtime, he loves that. He also loves the crafts I try to have on hand, all my grandkids enjoy crafting so I keep my eyes open for inexpensive, fun things to do.

I don't have a kid but i sing a lot to any kid i spend time with. I'm fascinated when they listen and watch your mouth move while you belt a tune.
My niece and nephews even ask me to sing a song for them because they grew up to it. I've sang to them since they were babies. So now that they're older, they sing with me. I actually miss them since they're now living an hour plane ride away so when i give them a call, i sing a short song to them.

HI Barbie June,
So sweet of you,can spend your times with your niece and nephews when they are young.
I spent less time with my niece and nephew as we are living in different country. I only got the chance to see them once a year.
Now, I am a mother of one little boy,I love to sing for him everyday.
It is a fun activity between a mother and a son.

Hello Shia,
Yes, I do sing to my children , especially when bed times. They get to sleep fast if I rock them with my songs.
Now that my two kids no longer need my songs to go to sleep. They like to listen to some story at bed times.
But I still sing a song for them every night so they know they got to sleep. It is a song I learn when I was in primary school. And I change a few words my own.
Our good night song :
Good night to you, good night to you, good night good night good night, good night to ( name) .
Now that I like my kids sing a song for me. When ever I am free, I will ask them to sing a song for me. I like to listen how they sing a song for me, very sweet and thoughtful. I admit my 2 kids like singing very much! But they don;t get my gene at all. I don;t like to sing but just for my kids .

Hello Shia,
The good night song is a song I learn when I was in standard one. But I just change the words from good morning to good night.
I think getting the right songs for them to go into bed is very important. They are certain songs that I don't sings for them during bed time, and those songs are somethings too excited .

Hi Vingyan,
Is that good night song created by you? Nice song.
There is once where I sing a lullaby song for my son (Indonesian version) and I heard that he started to cry. I am not sure why he feel sad of that song.Probably because the song is slow in mode.I feel so bad and won't never repeat that song again.
I love singing and everytime when I sing for my son, I can sing nonstop till my throat gets dry.I hope my boy will have my gene, love singing too.
Sometimes, when I heard my boy sing a song, i will laugh at myself as he is like creating his own new song.

Shia.. I am a broken record...my girl only enjoys ABC & Twinkle Twinkle little star.. Recently, she started to have Baa Baa Black Sheep and Do Re Mi.
She has yet to know how to enjoy those Barney shows yet, as I tried giving her Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on my laptop, and she is more interested on my 'mouse' instead of the show

Hi cwong,
Your daughter is still too young to enjoy those Barney shows. Give her some time and sure she will like it one day.
I only introduce Barney to my son when he reached one year old,Only that time he started to show an interest on Barney show and till now he is still a Barney fans.
He also like to watch Doraemon and Ultraman.Never miss those show everyday.
Lately, I introduced BackYardigans show to my son and he seem like it too.He can sit quietly watch the whole show while I was busy in the kitchen.

This brings me good memories of looking after my son when he was a sweet baby. I bought cassette tapes of nursery rhymes at the pasar malam. My wife and I on the tapes and we sang along to our baby. We watched Barney, Tele Tubies, Sesame Street, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Donald Duck,Mickey Mouse, etc together with our son. That was the good old days.

Hi James,
Looking back at those old memories are always have a great feeling.
Times flies so fast, today we are just sitting together and singing nursery rhymes,...then our kids has grown up and no longer need all those nursery rhymes for their days.
My son favourite show is Barney,Doraemon,Ultraman.
So far,he never watch Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse as we don't subscribe to Disney Channel.
When I was young, I am not the fans of donald duck and mickey mouse too.

Hi shia,
When my kids were about 4 yrs and younger, they too watch Barney everyday, and I did watch with them too. Oh, I have memorized almost all of Barney's songs, I even bought a coloring book with Barney's songs in it. Barney is a good show for kids, it teaches a lot of great things to kids.
Yes I sang a lot of nursery songs to my kids during bedtime when they were still toddlers. In fact even now, my 6 years old son sometimes asks me to sing "Rock A Bye Baby" when he's about to go to sleep and my older son(10 years old) would tease him and tell him he's too old for that song.

Hi, Shia! I grew up without Barney, too, but I DO know their songs because both of my nephews used to watch it almost everyday! There were some songs that were familiar and others I would sing along with them because it was fun.
Now, it is my little niece's turn to watch Barney and she just loves to sing. Not only songs she picks up from Barney, but she can also create her own kids' songs and lyrics! He he... she's so adorable.
I know that song 'cicak, cicak...' . I couldn't remember who bought the tape when my siblings and I were still very young. Anyway, there are lots of nursery rhymes I enjoy to sing with my nephews and niece like 'If you're happy and you know you clap your hands, clap, clap...' Singing songs for kids or with kids are definitely enjoyable and also great for family bonding. It also proves that it can help the kids to be creative as well, just like my niece.

I also like to wacth Barney. I have recorded several Barney' vcd and I always joined my son while he was watching Barney.I will sing the song together and at the same time, I will explain to my son what is Barney and friends doing. I want him to understand what he is looking and listening at.
No doubt, Barney is a very good educational vcds for kids.
My favourite Barney song is I love you,you love me.
Everytime when I heard this song, I will hug my son and he will hug me back.

Singing for and with the little ones in my life are one of my favourite things to do. I do not have any children but I have many little ones in my life thanks to my siblings, cousins, and friends who have kids of their own. And I am, of course, the favourite aunt ;)
There is something very special about teaching them songs and singing along with them. There is something in their trusting, open eyes and oh-so-sweet voices that just melts your heart!
One of my youngest nieces can't talk yet but she knows all the tunes and all the actions that match songs like Twinkle Twinkle & My Mommy and me!
Truly, this is a gift, and one I intend to enjoy, God willing, as long as I can.
I hope you do too.

Hi Hazel,
Twinkle little star is one of the simple nursery song for kid to learn.
I actually don't really know how to sing this song until I have a kid.
I went to search for the lyric and learn myself.
Everynight I will sing this song for my son and he loves listen to my song. We also sing together throughout the night.

hi,shia88,
I think that your family must be very happy. What you shared let me recall my childhood. When I was a boy, every summer night, my whole family were sitting on the green grass, my brother, young sister and I nestled in my mother's arms, mom gently shaking the fans and driving away mosquitoes for me as humming a children's song.At that time, we always went to sleep sweetly in the mum's songs. Now,I'm missing my mum very much.I hope she can live a good life in the distance place.

Hi Ymkwcw,
Recalled back to childhood is always have a great feeling.
But I really can recall back whether my mother used to sing for me or not.
I doubt so as she is not good in singing.
But now, I am a mother of one son,I want my son to have fun and learn to sing. So I try my best to learn some nursery rhymes and sing them for my son.

I don't have kids but I do enjoy singing with my kinds at school, they seem to really enjoy singing. Last year we even set up a show for their granparents called "grandparents day" (yeah how original eheh) and the kids stood in front of them, singing songs for kids (I don't think you know them because they're italian ones). If I ever have kids of my own, I'm pretty much sure my answer to your questions would be positive :)

Hi Shia,
I enjoy singing, therefore I will definitely sing to my girl.
She has been listening to a lot of nursery rhymes since she was a baby. I have bought dozens of VCDs for her. Indirectly, I have learnt a lot of new songs while she is listening to them. For me, I prefer the newer version of nursery rhymes compared to those I listen during my childhood days.
My daughter used to okay when I sing to her but now she has a different says about it. She would shake her hands and tell me "No"! But she loves dancing with me. Every time we will surely dance together (or I shall say, hop together)when her favourite songs being played.
I never sing to her before her bedtime. Maybe I did not practice it since she was a baby. So she will likes to doze off in a very quiet way.
