Could we survive if all computers and machines just stopped working?

Ok, just stop and think about this for a moment. How much of your life is dependant on a machine? Ok, now here's another question. How much of your personal life's enjoyment and entertainment is provided by a machine? What would you do if all machinery...mechanical and electrical ceased to work? Would you survive? Do you know enough to live off of the land like we did 150 years ago? Or do you place your life in the hands of the machines that we take for granted each and every day?

I am sure we would survive if all machine stopped working. There are many people though that would not and would do all they could to get the machinery in working again.

if people could survive before all this technology then we could survive after it as well if were to go away. the old saying "you don't know what you got til it's gone" is very true. but if we never had it we would never miss it either. certainly it makes our lives easier and certainly it keeps us all more connected but we could survive without it if we had no other choice.

This would be nothing less than an absolute disaster! I'm really into computers and I have come to rely on them so much now. I think that a lot of us now take computers for granted, they're an everyday part of our lives and we really need them. I cannot imagine returning to the past and having to live without them. It doesn't bare thinking about the idea of losing touch with the world due to a system malfunction! I have quite a few contacts in different parts of the world and to suddenly lose that connection would be an absolute disaster as I mentioned! I love to play games online occasionally so to lose that, it would be a shame but nothing too serious. As the years pass I'm pretty certain that more and more areas will become computerised! Andrew

I can still survive if there are problems with all computers and internet connection in the whole world, but there is a limitation. I can't survive for many days in that situation. Maximum I can survive for a week. I will prefer to take a week off from work at that time and go to a countryside and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Certainly we can, just our lives will change greatly, luckly, our lives are tied to machines so closely... Maybe population would increase greatly if no TV, you know what I mean...

We will survive for sure but life will not be convenient as it were with the use of electricity powering all gadgets that makes life easy. We will be back to pre-technology era and life will be more simple. Unfortunately, the society today has become too much dependent on technology and in the event of a massive failure, life will be disrupted. have fun

As for machinery lets see - I can wash clothes by hand if need be. I can dry clothes out side. Sheets and blankets would be a problem. I lived without a dishwasher most of my life so that wouldn't be a problem. The only thing I could see having a problem with is wrinkled clothes. If you wash them by hand they will be wrinkled and with no dryer and no iron that would bother me because I can't stand wrinkled sheets let alone wrinkled clothes. I have had use of a computer at home for only the past 10 year. So for sure I could do without if need be. Not to say I wouldn't miss the convenience of them all. However I think I'm an adaptable person that would somehow handle it the best way I can.

I´m sure we would survive as a species. But many individuals would die for sure. Not because of the fun we have at the movies or watching TV or playing with the computers. But A lot of what is done in hospitals now to ensure life is done with machines. Machines are also used to make medicines and some kinds of food. So food would be a lot more scarce that it alreay is. I don´t even have a well in my house to det water. JEEZZ!!! Even my Lola (my German Shepherd naughty pup) eats pellets. I´m planning to have a vegetable garden this summer but I´m sure it´s mostly a play that the real thing. Life is very tough without machines. Happy posting!!!

I think we have to unlearn our modern knowledge if that happens. If our ancestors have survived the great era when there was no technology yet, why should we be afraid to lose those machines?

Yes of course we can survive without computers. But speaking of machines it depends. It depends if what machine are you referring to. Pulleys, knives, scissors and any sorts of like those things are machines. Simple machines to be exact. Without them I don't think it would be easy for all of us. Life would be miserable. But still we can survive it. Humans can adapt to it's environment. It won't be easy and will take time but yes we can survive.

The sad thing is we fool ourselves with doing activities like camping which we associate with 'roughing it'. In reality, when we camp, we bring a lot of amenities that we couldn't live without. The car with the GPS to get to the campsite, the cell phones which we use to communicate with the other campers, and the entertainment we bring for the 'rough' night, like radio, satelite TV, laptop, etc.

People would simply not know what to do. It's been so long since we've had to go without computers. The World is so dependent on computers and technology now. I can't even imagine living back in the day.

We would have to. It would be extremly hard but what choice do you have? My girlfriend often talks about this when we lose power. She gets very upset when that happens. She says she knows there was a time when people lived without electricity but we have got accustomed to electricity.

I think that we would all have a difficult time adjust to living without computers and machines, to say the very least. I know that I would definitely have a difficult time living without things like my computer, my television, and such.
