The operating system of mine is windows xp pro. This is a pirated version and not the legal one. After installation of the OS, I turned on the automatic updates as there will be lot of updates to be done after installation.Almost all of the updates files got installed. The problem is while down loading the updates, "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation and Notifications" update pack has been also down loaded. If I install this pack, then my desktop setting will be changed and also I will be getting warning message from Microsoft always to purchase the original product.Hence I did not install it and canceled the update. But when ever I start my system, this update window is asking the permission to get installed.Every time I used to cancel the update process.Irritating me too much. How to delete this particular update file/ folder entirely from my computer? Where will be they stored in the computer? I searched the C drive entirely and not able to find that. How to delete this?

Thanks for the informative response. I checked for the availability for this particular application. But nothing is available regarding this .There is a option to stop the services of automatic updates under the services tab. Will it help, if we stop the automatic update service? Let me give it a try..As this will not cause any problem to the computer, we can do this I think.I will let you know the happening..Thanks for your suggestion in this issue.

I searched by typing "regedit" in the run window..I got the registry values but I am not able to find the mentioned path. Mine is entirely different and all the values start with "HKEY_ " like this..There is a folder in the path HKEY/software/Microsoft/windows genuine advantage...There is a option to delete this also..But I did not delete this...can I delete this folder...Will it cause any problem to the system? Of course, even if the system is not working , I can format..Just I need to work for about 2hours and only two hours work will be affected...I have the back up for everything...If I am not deleting this now, I will do it, when I am about to format the system ( I will format the system at least once in 45 days)Thanks for the useful information...

it's probably under windows update in your registry.
but i wouldn't mess with your registry unless you know what you're doing with it.

Is it so?as I am not much familiar with the computers so that I can do some thing in the registry, I may not be able to remove it..If it is in the c drive , then I can remove it easily..If we make some changes in registry value, this may cause additional problems and may even lead to the formatting of the system again. Anyway, lest me check for the availability at least to know about them, even if I am not able to remove it. I did not think of the registry, even..Thanks for the useful information.Today I have learned something new...thanks again..
