Well with me it seems Good things happen and as soon as they do. Something bad follows QUICKLY!!! And for me, that generally happens in my health. What happened? My son won a awsume trip for two to the Marlboro Ranch. (All expences PAID-EVERYTHING)!!!! So then it happened, the bad thing. I woke up this morning and I went to drink something and half my mouthwasn't working. Everything dribbled down the side of my face. I went to the hospital. They did a CT scan and they were sure. I have Bell's Palsey. They said it comes from a virus or canker sore. And lasts about 3 weeks. My eye is watering like you can't believe and it almost closed. I hate this. I have a pretty smile and can't smile at all now. So do any of you out there have ever had this? How long did it take to go away for you?

I have never had it, but my kids' stepmom and stepsister both have it. The stepmom's symptoms seem to just stay around. It's like one side of her face barely works. The stepsister's symptoms seemed to go away after two months, but they recur every four or five months. Hopefully it won't last very long for you hon. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that.

My son in law had it. I can't remember how long it took for it to go away. Its been some years ago and he's the only person I've known with it. I can relate to the bad following the good. Seems to be the norm.

The doc said a virus. My room mate had been sick for two weeks. So I guess instead of me getting the flu I got this. I would rather have the flu!! lol :)

can't say i've had.doesn't sound like fun though. my grandmother used to say you could get that from sleeping near a draft all night (like a fan).guess that was another old wives' tale.(tho it did sound silly to me)

Maybe not. Alot of people seem to have gotten it that way. But basically it is a virus. That is why they give you a anti-Virial medication. Have a good weekend :)

I have never had this but a girlfriend of mine used to yell at me for sleeping with a fan near my face. Apparently, a friend of hers woke up just as you had, and her doctor supposedly said it was because of the fan, that caused her bell's palsy. I later found out that it has something to do with a herpes simplex virus, the one that causes cold sores. They don't know 100% that that is the cause but it does happen to be the biggest link between all of the patients tested. Take Advil or another NSAID to ease the inflammation, and do the facial exercises. Most cases last anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks, the latter being more severe. Hope you get to feeling better. Good Luck to you!

It seems like when things are going good we have to suffer something. My grandmother had Bell's Palsey years ago. I don't recall how long it lasted but I do remember how scared she was that it was a stroke. I hope that it won't interfere with your trip.

I have a few relatives who have had that. All I know was that it was terribly incovenient, a hindrance, and one of the most uncomfortable situations they ever had in their lives. I really don't know how long my two relatives had it. I think of of them had it a month, but I'm not sure about the other.

It has not happened to me. But you can take this to heart. There is a local tv reporter in Houston who had it and was off the air a little while. He has recovered and is as good as new and feisty as ever. He's the "undercover" watchdog type reporter so he's in the public eye a lot. So take heart, you will be ok. It'll take a while but it won't be forever.

hi cookiecrumbles sorry to hear that that happened to you just as your son won that awesome trip for two.but Bells Palsey is not supposed to last more than a month at the most, Ihave had friends who had it, and it took about a month to six weeks.but just think you could have got that darned viral shingles and that sucker lasted me all last summer, little blisters that stung like little electric shocks going through your tummy, was I ever glad to be over that. these viral things are the pits.hope yours gets over really guick and you get back that pretty smile again. And to on the cheer up side, the other kind of palsy affects your walking and one poor man here in the retirement center has it so bad he shakes and has to stop take two or three steps then shake and then walk again.but he is a very sweet man.so sorry for him.

I try to keep myself in good physical shape. I don't want to wake up feeling kinda crummy one morning, sneeze, then have my spin fall apart and my brain stem detach all of the sudden. It could happen you know. I bed a doctor would tell me that there was a one and four trillion chance of it happening each and every year. I'm not sure if that's true, but I don't want to test the odds like that. I'm starting to do a little casual reading. I feel it's a much better way to pass time than channel surfing and complaining about low quality television shows that pop up on every channel. I may have to look into reading medical books pretty soon. I had no idea a sore could cause that much trouble. My thirst for knowledge has increased tenfold after reading about your unfortunate situation. I wish you a speedy recovery.

This happened to my daughter when she was in her early 20's. She wroke up one morning with her face on one side down and her eye tearing. She went to the doctors they said it was Bell's Palsey. We believed it came from sleeping in a very cold room. She had the air conditioning on all night and was to lazy to wake up and shut it off. She was sleeping right under it. I still don't really know if that was what caused it because the doctors say it comes from a viral infection. Her bell's palsey lasted about 2 weeks only. Thank God. It was scary for all of us especially for her. She was afraid her face was going to stay like that. Good luck to you and think positive that will help in the healing process.

I did, it lasted about 3 weeks but started getting better in 2 weeks. It does feel very strange. One reason your eye is watering, is because you cannot blink. You may want to wear a pair of glasses or sunglasses, to help.

My mom had it once. It didn't take too long for it to get back to normal, I can't remember for certain though. That was years ago and she hasn't had a problem since. Good luck, hope it all works out.

I really pity people like you to have suffered illness like Bell's palsey. I have not nor any member of my clan suffered this disease. I advice you to consult the internet where you can gather enough info for your early recovery besides consulting your doctor. I'll pray to Almighty God for your early recovery.
