Why do people always w=saw eew or scurl their lips on hamsters?

Ive always wanted a hamster i love em lol but the mother is not taking me seriously with it .simple. But on a serious note though hamsters are always compared to regular rats.. they are not and why do people hate them ...do they ? Tell me what u think
