both my pc and mac has 2GB memory installed and so far I don't see any reason why i should upgrade although in six months I think I should. Actually it's the current and latest softwares that keeps us upgrading our components because latest softwares requires higher hardware requirements so if you are going to use or stick yourself with the old softwares, I don't see you upgrading any part of your pc, but since memories are now cheap, making it 4GB will be much better.

thanks for response, i think you are right. 2 gb of RAM is enough for all general purpose applications but when you need to run some high end or server application on your work station then you will feel that it is not working as moderate. in earlier time server were running on 512 mb but today they need more.

Hey the RAM is sufficient i feel. The speed of your system also depends on you motherboard capacity and also the processor that you have. IF you mention the details then it will be more clear to let you know the reason.

I have two gigabytes of ram in my system and the maximum amount or ram I can install in my system is four gigabytes and I will be looking to do this in due course. I think that you should install the maximum amount of ram available for your system. The more ram you have the faster your system is able to operate. Here's a good website that I absolutely love. www.crucial.com This website scans your system and lets you know exactly the type of ram you have in your system, how much ram you have, and how much ram you can install in total. The scan is free and it's just a fantastic website and a place where I can fulfil my ram requirements. Good luck. Andrew

my desktop computer has 8Gb and my Laptop 4Gb. However, i am probably what they call a 'power user' i need a lot of RAM as some of the things i use my computer for need a lot more power than just checking e-mail. If you are just the average computer user (Internet, E-Mail, Office etc.) 2Gb is sufficient.

2-4gb would be good enough. just to inform you its not just the ram, actually the ram is just about 5% of the overall performance. 70% processor 20% video card 5%motherboard and apps and tools that you use to speed up your pc.

Well, 2 GB is about enough to handle pretty much any program on the market, other than INCREDIBLY complex programs, like Mathematica or the likes. Most systems can't utilize 3 or 4 GB, unless they're x86_64 (64 bit), and most 64 bit computers have compatibility problems with today's software.

Hey anurag! 2gb of ram that's enough for me to make my every job with out any obstruction. Even if you try to add on more than that you cannot observe change in speed coz it nearly maximum.
