Hi mylotters!
I have recently been chosen to be a petty cash loan custodian by our cooperative chairman. A nice position in our cooperative, considering the officers gave me a lump sum of money to manage. Our cooperative is a rank-and-file organization inside a broadcasting company, where we all work. The cooperative officers gave me a hundred bucks (Philippine peso) in check which I immediately encashed to the nearest bank.
As a petty cash loan custodian, I have the authority to approve, disapprove, schedule, and release money, at a certain amount, to requesting members. Well, it is not much of a job because I'll be doing that for free. It is suppose to be a paying job, but since our cooperative is just new, a year or so in existence, there's not much money to pay the officers and managers, even a little honorarium.
I also set my limits since I still have a regular paying job to do. I would only operate two days a week, after office hours.
I think, they trusted me most of all the members to give me such a position. Have you handled such a position as I have in your organization? What can you tell about it? Are you a trustworthy person?

I agree to both of you ybong007 and Ysabel!
Your action would always be given a proportional reaction by the people around you.

Being trustworthy is something earned but a few could have. Some were said to be trustworthy but eventually showed their real colors.
I am a trustworthy person but I am cautious as well. I always avoid money matters, most especially if the money isn't mine, because there are too many people who's credibility were destroyed due to some issue or temptations with money.
There was once incident in our company when we all trusted a particular secretary to do the depositing of funds since we operated in a centralized type of system where the money should be coursed through in the bank for our main office to collect it. We trusted her with more than hundred thousand pesos per transaction thinking that it was safe because she need to present the deposit slip anyhow. Temptation is truly close with money, and eventually the firm's audit caught her tampering with the deposit slips by padding (where you put multiple copies of the slip and present them many times). She immediately was kicked out and was filed charges with.
I truly caution you, dear friend, it may feel good that people trust you now, but being selfish and envious humans we are, there will come a point when they'd question your trustworthiness. So take heed then by being transparent in any way in your transactions and make sure the people (most of your heads) should sign and double sign each transaction for your safety.
I did handle such a type of position, however, I really didn't like the feeling of it, most especially when you're chosen to do so for free. It's a whole lot of responsibility and I'd rather not pressure myself for such.

Hi,laydee, thanks very much for your excellent comments, I think I can benefit a lot from this...yes for sure, some were said to be trustworkty but in fact they are not...it's not easy to find them unless just through their behavior in the future, but during that time, maybe we have suffered a loss if we give some important work to do especially for money...
yes we also need pay more attention for ourself, though we think we are a turstworthy guy, we also need more cantion as well...some minor mistakes you are making will lose your trust from others....thanks again, good day.

I took the job for free for the sake of our cooperative. Maybe in a couple of years, our organization will prosper in terms of monetary value, then, maybe they'll start giving salary to their officers. Anyways, this is all for the cooperative. I better have the confidence of other people than to be paid but they are talking about me at my back. You know what I mean? Intangible things are really priceless. They could not be bought at any denomination of money, however high it is. What's important now is that, I am managing the petty cash lending business at the right track. I have been at my second day of operation yesterday and its been doing well. All monies are accounted for and the process of lending is very smooth.

You are very welcome for the reply, and I always like sharing my opinions and responses with my fellow mylotters, and I also like hearing other peoples opinions, and no I have never had a job where I had to deal with large sums of money and I would not want to because I would not want anyone to say I stole it or something, since you never know what will happen when money is involved.

Hello hellcowboy! Thank you for the posting a reply.
That's good that everybody trusts you. Can I ask you a question? Have you been appointed to any organization where your job is handling and managing a large amount of money?

To be trustworhty is a value in you a person. It does not come only in your professional life, but it should be in the total you, and reflects in all areas of your life: financial, personal, working relationships, personal relationships. Trust is not given, it is earned. You earn it by being transparent, being honest, not hiding things, not keeping a secret,
One cannot force the other person (or an organization) to trust you. You have to show that you can be trusted, by being true and open and again, transparent.
You are very lucky person to be trusted in that area and be given that position, among the many members. Money is just a critical issue especially at this time where crisis is felt everywhere, and so you are honored to be chosen! You must be a great person. =0 Keep it up, Ethan!! You are doing a great job! =)

Hi ethan,
Once I had to be "President" of the entire block of Flats that I then lived in and I had to be in charge of all the money for paying the Bank, the Electric Bill and for the Elevator.
I also had to go and try and collect money from debtors which I detested doing as they did not pay you anyway. But yes I did handle a lot of money and at the end of the year I had to do a Balance of all the money which was a real pain.
I consider myself much more honest than some of them but that´s beside the point. More than one time there was not enough money to pay for the Electricity of the Main Doorway and without electricity there was no Lift so I knew what that would mean so I went and paid it out of my own money as I was heavily pregnant and the stress would have been too much. When there was no lift and lights working they would ring on your doorbell at three o ´clock in the morning and ask you what had you done about the lift in question.
I think I was honest and had too much patience also.

Hi ethan,
Sorry I lost the thread of this conversation and I did´nt know where to look to find it so now I have.
Did I have problems yes I gained myself unwanted enemies because I ended the Year with the Account Balance in Positive that is to say there was a good amount of money as compared to Zero which it was when they first handed it over to me.
While I earned myself enemies which is the way of the world I also gained more respect from others that had always seen me as a Foreigner.
However when I handed the Accounts over to the next President I´m afraid things went back to the same way as they were before by the time six months had passed they argued continually between each other and one of them finally stole some money from the Accounts but that´s life.

How long have you been doing that task as a treasurer? Where do you use your funds? Be very careful where you put the money. They might be misplaced.

That's really good for you shajerrl! Maybe I can use this position in our cooperative to bring more business in it. More business means more income. I can also put this work of mine in the cooperative at my credentials or resume'. This will also boost my level in our rank-and-file union and in our cooperative.
Thank you shajerrl for the response. Happy mylotting always!

You just make up your mind never to steal. Once people know that you don't do that then you automatically become trustworthy. Its nice and people do trust you. If ever you do steal, though, and people get to find out, that reputation is gone forever.

I am trustworthy, without a doubt. I love to think that people can rely on you if they ever want anything, without thinking that you might do something wrong. I always keep promises and secrets, and would never gossip or spread gossip about anything that wasn't my business. I like to think that my friends and family know that, and trust me with their secrets because of that.
I have a lot of friends, and I think it might be because I am like that. And they know that they can rely on me, whenever.
It's nice to be like that though :) Who would want to be a person who nobody liked?

hello ethanonthemoon! what a privilege! =)
to be given such a responsibility, and chosen among the many members, you must have those qualities mentioned by Ysabel! But, aren't you scared? I mean, not of the responsibility, but of course, money is such a very sensitive issue... you know, people could just really be doubtful and distrusting when it comes to money. you will never know what every member thinks, right?
i think i am trustworthy too. but not that i have been given a position like yours, but i just know i can handle responsibilites, and i give my best to everything that i do.
good luck and more power!

The money is kept in a cash box with a lock, and that cash box is inside a drawer, also with a lock. I bring the keys of both locks with me all the time. So far, I don't worry about the money. It is in a well locked place. The business is doing very well. I have lent money to members in my second day last Thursday.
Thank you starrfish for the response.

Yes. I think I am a trustworthy person too. I hate to get into the bad books of somebody, especially my close ones and associates. I dont normally hurt or allow others to develop ill feelings about me. Above all, I feel that truth prevails and emerge victorious and hence would not do anything that would make me untrustworthy.

Congratulations! Trustworthiness is wealth, isn't it? since it's a great virtue. So glad you are fully trusted by your cooperative.
I always do my utmost to finish everything, for my friend, they will always have my word. I think credibility is important to interpersonal activity. I am proud that if some guy say I am believable^-^

For that reason trustworthy person is good the one is happy of what your doing is GOD. And when the time will come you continue doing that you inherit paradise. I have experience before I'm the one who deposit the money in the bank I used it for almost three years and my boss feel secure in me when I'm doing my job.
