I have installed the windows XP professional in my Laptop. As my laptop is getting much heat, I am now uninstalling the very rarely used software programs and applications from my laptop so that the resource usage is reduced little. I have both Mozilla Fire Fox and Internet Explorer in my system, But I am not using internet explorer even once in month and the favorite browser is Firefox only. Now I want to uninstall the Internet Explorer from my system, But this is not available in "add / remove programs".. When I tried to remove from the program files in the C drive, it is showing some error and I am not able to delete the folder..How to remove it from the system?

EI is a part of OS, if you want to uninstall then run OS on safe mode & delete folder c:\program files\Internet Explorer
I hope it will get deleted and if you want to run your laptop fast then defragment all drives. Use CCleaner to delete temp files & also by using CCleaner you can Defragment your registry files.
Let me know if your problem get solved.
Happy mylotting ^_^

I know this is part of the Windows OS package and you cannot remove this software. I suggest if you are using other browser just leave the IE since I do believe that they have included some kind of link between IE broswer with the whole OS system. Removing it might have problems with the OS in the future. There is no prohibition as to using Firefox so just don't use the IE browser and leave it there. I also noticed that there are sites that needs IE browser only and does not function well with Firefox. One example of these is the NOD32 online scanner if you would access it via Firefox it would not run and would request if you could use IE to scan you PC online. I guess there are still many sites that are like this case.

I guess they have made it an integral part of the OS, the reason behind I do not know but I think it is because whe you first install the OS you cannot access the net unless you use a browser so since they have the IE as their browser they have tomake it as part of the OS. But I think if you just leave it there it would not consume memory unless you load it on together with Firefox.

You computer speed depends on number of applications executing on your pc and services. So Internet explorer is not a service and its default application comes with XP Professional Operating system. Any way you wont use IE.. right.. so you need not to worry about the performance problem with your pc.

OK..Can we avoid this while installing the Operating system itself? Even if we want to do so, some of the CD's are having the option to include the Internet explorer in the menu " Install additional components" and most of the CD's don't have this option.I have checked many OS installation CDs so far..As in the task manager, many processes related to the Internet Explorer are running, I wanted to stop all these things. Without removing the browser, if we try to stop them, the entire system is shutting down or nothing is available in the screen. Is IE is much essential to the running of the system? I don't find that much of importance with the IE in relation to the functioning of the system. As I am using Mozilla firefox now, I don't like to have more in my system as all are consuming reasonable memory resources of the computer. Thanks for your suggestion and response to this discussion.

There is no possible way to remove it from your computer without consequences, unless you switch to another OS!Of course, you can make firefox your default like me, but if you remove it, all microsoft programs will not update,x most importantly Windows Update! I just guess because of microsoft, they can do this, but it is not hassle to keep it on your computer, its only 55mb.

Unfortunately, you can't do this. I too am a Firefox user, and I understand that you feel IE is useless. But really, IE isn't too much of a memory hog. Make sure Firefox is your default browser, and then you shouldn't have a problem from them.
I would recommend you upgrade your RAM if you are seeing this kind of problem, and think IE is slowing down your computer. If you are just removing it to free up HD space, deleting IE won't make a big difference. Simply buy an external hard drive. One with a few hundred GBs can be bought for under $100.

If my fans in the laptop are working fine, then there will not be any problem in having the Internet explorer in the system. At present,I am not able to spend for the repairing of fan itself as if I bring the laptop to the service engineer, they will charge more.Because my system is having many troubles it seems. That's why I wanted to reduce the work load of the CPU by removing unwanted programs and applications .I have already removed many of the software that I had in the system which I don't use much. IE is also one of such applications. Also I don't like it because of its slow loading...We are not able to access any sites easily.Even I turned off the anti phishing option which will make little delay in the loading of the websites. Now it seems that it is not possible to uninstall it from the system.Nonthing is possible other than struggling with this IE.Thanks for your response.

One of the most important things your computer has to be able to do is updates. You need Internet Explorer to do this and no you can't use any other browser to do so. Your laptop is not over heating because of IE but maybe it's because of air access around the fan. I'd check to see if there is much dust there. You can buy a cooling pad to lay your laptop on. If you use your laptop on your lap or on a blanket that doesn't help and can also cause damage or even set it on fire. I use mine on my desk and my wife puts hers on one of those adjustable tables you can pull into yourself when sitting on a chair or sofa.

Yes. The ventilation system of my laptop is having much problems .As I am not in the position to spend for it now,I am trying to reduce the load to the CPU manually..I am not working with many tabs now as like I did in the past..It is very new to know that we need to have Internet Explorer to get the updates installed. It seems from all of your responses that we can not remove it from our system entirely..But it is taking about 10-20 % of the CPU, most of the time. That's why I don't like this. Also , every day, its asking for the upgrading update, which will take much time to get completed..As i am not using this browser,I don't like to get the latest version also..If we are allowed to avoid the IE while installing the operating system itself, then at least for that I will format the system now.Though I wanted to know about this for a long time to know about, now I am in the need of it ...Anyway, it seems it is not possible. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

No, you don't do that, do not manually remove files of any program specially Internet explorer, it might just cause your window to become unstable, you cannot just remove internet explorer, some windows features is associated with internet explorer so trying to remove it will just cripple your windows, the best you can do is just disable it. Getting much heat from your laptop has nothing to do with the software you rarely used in your windows. Also, If a particular program is not running, it will not eat up any resources; Have your laptop checked because your fans inside might be the problem, for the meantime, why not use a laptop cooler, It will definitely take off some of the heat from your laptop.

The fan of my lap top is having some problem now..That's why I wanted to reduce the usage of the cpu to some extent, as I don't like to spend to repair it for the time being..As you have mentioned, even if we end the processes related to the IE in the task manager, then nothing is working fine in the computer. Its either shutting down automatically or in the screen nothing is displayed..Now I am realizing the importance of the IE , that they given .As all of the programs started to run once we start the computer, automatically, we are not able to disable them manually every time. Only few programs don't need such work from us..I have even disabled some process in the start up menu..Nothing is working if we disable some of the important applications...Confusing me too much. But with these problems, I am learning everyday a lot...at least for that I should thank my laptop. Thanks for your response to this discussion.

Erm... I know that Internet Explorer is a really stupid program and whatnot, but if you uninstall Internet Explorer, your system will most likely crash. Internet Explorer uses a lot of shared files, mainly .dlls, and without them you can't access Windows Update and a lot of features in Windows Explorer (the Windows XP mainframe, pretty much). Also, heat is caused by programs that are running, not by programs that are simply installed. Uninstalling IE will do nothing to benefit your laptop's temperature... ugh.

Thanks for the information..I we open the Internet explorer, it is taking much time to get loaded , which is highly irritating me. Even I have tried with the latest version of IE..loading of the browser itself is taking much time, even in the systems with 2GB RAM..That's why I wanted to remove it from my computer. But it seems not possible at all.So for I did not have any idea about the relationship of the windows update with the internet explorer..Now its clear that we can not remove it from the system.I should do some other to reduce the heat of the laptop..Will opening of multiple tabs in the browser window cause excessive heat(in fire fox)? I am not sure of it..Probably it may have specific impact on the heat generation as the processors need to work more if many tabs are opened..Thanks for your response and keeping me informed about the new facts which is not knowing to me so far.
