Why an Increase in Horror Movies?

There seem to be a lot more horror movies in Asian cinemas (and perhaps even in western ones) lately compared to the past 5 years. It makes me wonder if movie producers have actually run out of ideas and plots that the only way to attract audience to their movies is to scare them?
What do you think?

Movie producers go for what the audience want. Lately those horror movies were all sell-out. So they mass produce what movies goers like. This is where the money is. Who doesn't want money?

They sell and they're cheap to produce;
No necessity for big stars
Simple special FX
No complicated story line or screen play
Something like the Okra Humphery Show

I think its because you can make a good horror film on a low budget. With a good script and story you can use good unknown actors and still make a profit. But you also have to remember 99% of the horror films that have come out in the past 5 years have been pure crap. No creativity, mostly all horrible remakes, with horrible acting. Horror as a genre will never die, because like I always say Kevchua, "I feel the most alive, when im being terrified!"
