the topic of this discussion says it all. so how old were you when you first found out that santa is not real? how did it make you feel, were you upset, or did you had a feeling that he wasn't real? i know there are alot of questions in this discussion, but i didn't want to start a new discussion for each one. so just answer which ever one you want. do you tell your kids that there is a santa? thanks for replying.

I was eight years old when my brothers and I found out there is no Santa. My brothers and I were playing in the closets of the house, when we discovered the presents my mother hid in one of the closets of our house. At first when they disappeared from under the tree, we thought that Santa took them to his workshop. At least that was what my mother wanted us to believe. When we discovered the presents hidden in the closet, we confronted her about it and about how there is no Santa. Then she told us, well, I guess you are all old enough to know the truth. My brothers were 6 and 5.

8. lol, and I didn't realize that it also meant the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy weren't real.
I didn't make the connection.
So I was disappointed all over again at Easter.

We were never taught that there was a Santa we was always taught that it was Christ birthday and we accepted that. But to find out that Christ was actually born in late September now that bothered me. But I know that Christ was born in late September. I did tell my children when they was growing up that there was no Santa but we still celebrated Christmas with all the trimmings. They knew that the presents that they got was from us and accepted it as just a way to celebrate Christ birthday. Now if you want to find out Christ real birthday contact Shepherd's Chapel you can find them on the net too at www.shepherd'schapel.com. Christmas was invented by man not God.

I kind of stopped believing between the ages of 10 and 11. I officially stopped believing at 12. However, one thing I do still do is write stories about Santa. That's one of the advantages of being a writer. You can revisit childhood myths creatively. I like that.

that is a great advantage indeed. i was a bit younger when i first found out, i am sure it had the same effect on most of us when we first found out. it's great you write stories about santa, i think others will enjoy reading what you have to say about him. it's also a good way to bring back some memories that you may have forgotten about. thanks for sharing with us and for responding.

I think I was pretty young.....I discovered the fact that there was no easter bunny because I caught my mom doing our baskets.....I think I just figured it out after that...but kept my mouth shut because I had a younger sister...but I told my kids that if they believe in Santa he still comes....so if they are here at Christmas they still get their stocking full....my son is 31...he loves his Santa gifts best! LOL.....

lol, i was going in my mother closet trying to find some of her clothes that i could play dress up in when i saw my easter basket. i asked her why it was at our house so early when it wasn't time for easter yet, she said the easter bunny got the dates mixed up and that she put the basket up for me until easter. after that i started to figure out that the easter bunny wasn't real. i remember her telling me that the easter bunny said that he will bring me another basket on easter. she said that i was lucky because i was going to get 2 easter baskets. i was so excited i didn't even care about what i had found. :) i know she was just looking out for me. i know that santa has been good to me over the years. thanks for sharing with us and for responding. :)

I was 11 and I was very disappointed when I discovered he did not exist My parents had done a great job year after year making it all seem so true.
I then carried on the tradition with my son and he was 6 or 7 when he too discovered that Santa was his father
Some of the magic of Christmas was lost on both occasions ans I am certain that when my son has children of his own he will continue letting them believe for as long as he can that Santa is real. There is no harm in it surely?

Shontia your comment brought tears to my eyes because it was exactly the same as happened in our house when I ws young. I used to find an empty glass and the crumbs too and we used to look up towards the stars hoping to see him too. It all sounds sooo familiar
We were so lucky that our parents made it all so real for us and sad that as adults we have no more magical things to believe in

i am sure your parents did a great job. one thing i liked was on christmas eve night my mother would help me and my brothers and sisters draw pictures to leave out for santa with the milk and cookies. the next day the glass would be half empty and we would see crumps left in the plate. our mother would tell us how excited santa was over the pictures and the treats we left him. that made our christmas special too. i also remember when i was around 3 and 4 and i would look up in the sky at night and see the red light from a plane and think that it was rudolph. lol. i use to wonder why he passed our house and didn't stop and my dad would tell us that he was coming to our house but we had to go to sleep first. i am now doing some of the same things with my kids and i hope they carry on the tradition when they have kids. thanks for sharing with us and for responding.

hi shontia08 I was about ten when I caught my own grandpa dressed as Santa carrying in a bag of presents. I do not think
I was really too upset as I had never really believed this
preposterous story in the first place. I was too practical a
child to believe anyone could fly all over the world in a sleight delivering toys.So I never told my kids that there was this Santa Claus fellow, I told them the truth.

I think I was 12 years old when i realize their is no Santa Claus but their are pious or kind people who like to give gifts not only to children every Christmas but also to any people who are in dire need of help. Despite of this i still like to know its legend and i just read their is a saint who is call as Santa Claus in older times call as St. Nicholas who like to give gifts to children and hence it start the traditional gift giving which is practices every Christmas seasons.

I was already 13 when I found at that Santa wasn't real. But I wasn't that dumb. I had my doubts. Even so, I decided to believe in Santa just as I believed in God. I have to admit that finding out that there was no Santa ruined the magic of Christmas for me.

Finding out the truth did change things for me because when I was young, the fun of Christmas was largely because of the mystery. But when I got older I learned to appreciate Christmas more and not just as something that is fun because it's mysterious and magical. I learned to enjoy giving gifts to people and spending quality time them.

Hi shontia,
Actually although I don´t believe in Santa Claus as such I still like to watch Christmas Films and secretly believe that he does exist all over again.
Ages ago when I was about six or seven I knew there was no real Father Christmas but I still liked to play and pretend that there was one what kid does´nt.
So now the little kid in me comes out to play every Christmas and on my own I can believe that Santa Claus does exist again.
I never told my kids they like me found out for themselves. Here we have Santa Claus and the Three Kings (The Three Wisemen) so it makes Christmas very long but even so I like it.
No I did´nt get upset at all when I did get to know I just carried on pretending when I wanted to. I love Christmas maybe others don´t but it´s my favourite time of the year in spite of everything.

christmas is my favorite time of the year too. i can't remember my exact age when i first learned that "santa" was really my mother and father. i am glad that they choose to make us believe in santa when we were young, because it made the wait for christmas day that much more fun. we use to leave cookies and milk for him. other kids at my school told me that santa wasn't real. that following christmas just wasn't the same, i was still happy because i got everything that i wanted, but it was still kind of hard finding out that he wasn't real. it wasn't hard as in i was depress or anything, things just was different. thanks for sharing with us. thanks for replying.

Hi shontia,
It is really hard to find out something like that when you are small bit like the tooth fairy I suppose.
When we used to have Carol Singers around the Houses late at night and because you were small you were already tucked up in bed just listening to them singing made it like magic and it was magic because I wanted to believe that it was so. No one can take that away from you ever.

I was 13 years old and already in high school when I learned that there was no really santa who is coming to town every Christmas and I found out that the people who put coins and gifts on the socks are actually my parents. That's so funny when I learned the truth but nevertheless I am excited every Christmas and believed that we can be Santa Claus to others especially to people who seemed so hopeless with their lives.

I always knew that Santa, Superman, Spiderman, Hitman, Batman, Etc. are imainary characters. I was a bit intelligent even when I was small and was able to make out who is lying to me.
I was very difficult to be fooled since I always knew the tricks in advance.

I only knew Santa from songs and Christmas decors and trimmings, but I knew in my heart he didn't exist. I never hang socks nor wait for his gifts, so I didn't really have that much feeling about Santa. My parents taught me early on that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ and His purpose is the save mankind that's why this day is very special. Santa was nowhere in the picture.
But when I had my own kids, I knew how exciting it is to wait for a gift from Santa, and so I made them believe there is Santa. My kids, 10 and 6 years old, still believe that there is Santa because they always receives gifts from "him" come Christmas Eve. I know sooner or later I should tell them the truth, but I can't find the right time and I am not sure how they will react when they finally know that he's not real.

thanks for sharing with us and for responding. i was also taught the real meaning of christmas but my parents also let us experience the magic of santa. i am not sure when it would be a good time to let kids know that santa isn't real. with my kids i was thinking about letting them find out on their own or when they get much older which ever comes first. when they start school, that's when i start to worry because i don't know if some of the kids from their school will tell them. i'll then have some explaining to do, but i think they will understand. :) have a nice day!!!

I was 7 when I found out there was no real santa.
My older sister told me.
Which I kindv'e already didn't think he was real ,because I always wondered why I would see my mom and dad wrapping presents lol.
I told my son at age of 7 there was no more santa ,but he seemed to understand .

i hope when my kids find out that they will understand. i know it won't send them into deep depression or anything, it's just that when i found out, even though i still enjoy christmas and get excited when it is that time of the year again, things still seemed a little different after i was told that he wasn't real. i'm glad to hear that you son understood. thanks for sharing with us and for responding.

I dont know but im sure i was about nine? lol how sads that!! Although the exsistance of santa made christmas so much more magical! Once you find out he isnt real the whole thing goes down, Instead of all the hype of writting a letter to santa and mam and dad posting a pretend letter back was just magical, leaving his milk and cookies and rudolfs carrot.
Youd run down stairs to see if santa had been!
One you find our its like.....''i want that mam'' , ''i want a computer dad'' Its not the same is it lol.
My son believes in santa and ill try and hold that lie down for a while as i want him to experience that magic to.

lol, no it is not the same. that was sweet, leaving a carrot for rudolph. i forgot all about him, but he didn't mind i don't think, since i got what i wanted each year. :) i was 5 when i got my first letter from santa and i kept it with me for a while, even after i was told that he wasn't real. eventually it got mixed up with some junk mail and i believe i threw it away. those were the good ol days, lol!!! thanks for sharing with us and for responding. have a nice day.

When I was still young, I prepare to have gifts than seeing Santa in person (i mean, the costumed one). I don't believe him either as most member of my family don't have this sock and other stuffs hanging near the x-mas tree.
