Everytime I buy something I save the change. I keep it in a hinkley smit bottles. They are big bottle that is empty that can contain gallons of money. I put it in the jug and don't cash it for an entire year. I love collecting it and finding out how much I have saved for the entire year. I think it is a good habit and it helps me out when I am in need. I always have something to fall back on. I am always waiting in excitment. I have collected a thousand dollars one year. Imagine the possibilties of how much we could save in a couple of years if we all saves out change. Saving money is always a great idea.

i am just finishing high school and am trying to save to go to university and this is one of the methods i use.
i dont spend any of my change unless it is an emergency and usually put away a fair bit of money.
my one and two dollar and fifty cent coins go in one tin, my ten and twenty cent pieces in another and my five cent pieces in another.
i have saved around $300 dollars this way over six months - which can still be a fair lot of money to a high school kid.

My dad saved a lot of change and gave it to me. I got a change sorter that counts the change and puts it in the coin holders to take to the bank. After doing that and finding it was a pretty descent amount I have started saving more change myself. I save every single penny. I pick up every penny I find on the ground. Since money has gotten tight I have found how much more important change is to me.

I save 5 and 10 centavo coins which I put too in jar then when it is already full. I use it as additional payment from my purchases to grocery store and even in purchasing of medicines. Rather than throw the dirty change i catch it, as even cents have values too..

Yes I do save the change. I have found that it has come in handy when I have needed it for that so called Rainy Day. I started by just dropping change in a jar then it got where I had so much change that I had to get something bigger to put it in so I just continued dropping my spare change in the container. I have had enough change to deposit in the bank. of course my neices and nephews love to visit my spare change jar when they come for a visit.

i do throw some of the change i have into a bin in our kitchen but some my hubby keeps for things like coffee. the change that is in the bin goes towards things like ice cream treats or if we have a lot, we use it for a day out at an amusement park or whatnot.

I have a five gallon piggy bank, but I don't use it. I find that I am more encouraged to save the change in small coffee cans and then cash them all in at once ( or in an emergency). For some reason the smaller the container, the better I feel about saving change. I would love to have the patience to save enough for my wedding or maybe a cheap car, but I always break into them and spend them on something else!

I must have at least a ton of copper coins and they fill a huge jug. I don't know what I'm going to do with all this change but the jar itself is serving as a reasonably good paper weight! I'm sure that all this change will be very useful at some point in the future. Whenever I spend cash though it seems that I'm left with all the coppers and I then fill this jug and I have now started filling a small mug! Andrew

I am at university, and collect a lot of change. When I go home at the weekends, I put my change in a jar in my bedroom. I have done this since i was very young, just saving up 1p, 2p and 5p whenever I can, and then take them to the bank when the jar is full. It's a huge jar, so when it gets full, it can hold around $50 of change, which is really handy.
A lot of people just throw change like that on the floor if they haven't got anything better to do with it, but they should think about just how much it could add up in the long run, it would be so much better to just keep hold of it!

We have one of those large 5 gallon water bottles that we keep our pennies in. I also keep our other change but I normally roll that up and we save it for a rainy day fun or we put it toward gas or bills when we are in a bind financially. That change has really been a life saver at times (layoffs at work and general emergency's).
I would love to be like you and save it all and see how much I could collect in a year. That might be my next goal. I might try that with my own personal change. I just won't tell anyone! I doubt that I could top you with that $1000 though! That is alot of change. Do you specifically break your paper money on small items just to get the change or will you pay for something inexpensive with your change if you have it on you?

I used to but not now. I love the fact that I can save much money that I want, but I hate it that someone else just took my savings. I was very young back then that's why someone just took an advantage of me. It was not just once, but a lot of times. I couldn't even imagine how much money I could have saved until now if it was not taken from me. From the Christmas gifts given to me up to my daily savings, all of them were gone. It was sad. So now I don't save that much.

wow, awesome! thanks to share, I also love the pleasure of saving change. Differentlly I use change quickly.
Everytime I am out for shopping, I will take a wallet. When I come back, I am accustomed to put change in a small carton. Sometimes change is stuffed up but will be used up quickly. I like this feeling of classifying stuffs.^-^
Maybe one day I also have a big bottle of change if I save. Refresh together!

I know the feeling of opening the box and discovering you can buy yourself a present. It really feels like present from someone else. I did it for a few years in a row while I was a university student. I and my boyfriend had two boxes, and we decided to use the money in the box to buy ourself Christmas presents. After we got merried and we changed house and all we stopped this habit, even if we still haave our boxes. We should just start again. I'll tell him.

Hi dear!
It is really a wonderful idea. You are right saving money in this manner is a great idea. I also keep may change aside in a box and keep some quantity of it in my pocket. I take the help of my box, when I am left with no change. I always prefer to keep different kinds of bills (currency Notes) and change with me and use is as and when required. I’ve seen some people looking puzzled and lost with big denomination currency notes, while buying something and they are deprived of their purchases, because they fail to produce the exact change

I do that too. I put my coins inside a mineral water bottle. I don't keep them in my bag or wallet because they are too heavy. It's exciting to see them getting more. My kids put their extra coins in the bottle too. They were encouraged to do the same. It is a good training for them. They learn how to save.

Yes, I save those changes but not all specially when I go out and I need some small denominations for my transportations but I do keep and it really helps when your in badly need, I have it in a couple of jars that are filled already and is always available when I will need it. Saving should be a habit because no one knows when are we going to be in need.
