If you stopped watching television tomorrow what would you do with the time?

I don't normally watch television. I have two tv shows that I like to watch but I usually watch them on my computer rather than suffer through all of the commercials. I can save 15-20 minutes watching the same 1 hr show by watching it on line. I haven't sat in front of the tv to watch anything but movies in quite a long time, and the reason that I do watch movies on tv is that my bf bought a DVD player so that we could have "movie nights" and cuddle. Which I feel is good for the relationship and a valid use of my time so in response to his purchase of the DVD player I joined Netflix. It works out well here.
So the question is or I should say questions are. How much tv do you watch per day? Per week? What else could you do with that time if you weren't hooked to your shows and the tyranny of the television schedule? Would you garden, or walk, or exercise, or maybe spend more time talking with your kids and family? Turning off the television in your house is sometimes a great thing to do, it depends upon how heavily addicted to that box you are, but just think what you could do with the extra time that you would have if you just completely lost interest in watching tv!

It is so rare that I watch television, but I do like to watch movies. I wouldn't give up the odd movie just to free up some time because I enjoy the movies and they relax me.
However, if I did find that I was stuck in front of the television too often, I would shut if off and pick up a good book instead. I do know many people who watch television for hours each day/evening, and I do wonder how on earth they get anything else done at all.

I too prefer reading to sitting vegged out in front of the "idiot box" as my mother used to call it. But conversely people who think that they don't spend a lot of time "watching television" have simply transferred their entertainment from old fashioned television (regardless of the no. of channels, to the internet (billions of sites (channels to choose from!)

Hi sharone, wathing tv programs is almost one of daily routines After a hard day work it's nice to have some cheerful activities to please us. I never miss to watch my favorite programs like music, comedy tv series, as well as the latest late evening news. When watching this I read and type mylot posts at the same time. I would concentrate on either one if any of them is more attractive All these are broadcast in night time. So I still could do my regular physical exercise, gardening, reading, household chores, etc in day time.
I will stay away from my tv when attending special occasion like wedding dinner, family or friend gathering at night. I don't watch tv program as well if having local or foreign vacation. I treat the interesting tv programs as the entertainment to amuse myself at home. Yeah, the unexpected would happen at anytime. In case I come across the current interruption tomorrow, I could hardly do anything at home totally for all the electrical appliances can't work anymore without any current supply. I will drive to the nearby shopping mall without any hesitation for sure to past my time enjoying window shopping there. What's more I could enjoy the free air con available there as well
Good luck and happy posting!

well i am not that into watching television.other hobbies can easily take over the place of television like a good book or novel, songs ,mylot etc. soaps or serials don't catch my fancy and for news i can always compensate with newspaper and internet. if all these are not available casual conversation with friends and family members can keep me equally entertained.

I do not watch tv on a daily basis. Very often when I am doing some work in the house I keep the tv on and listen to the tv but hardly ever sit and watch it. The only time I seem to spend many hours in front of the tv is when my four month old grandson is visiting with his parents. That is the only time I sit and play with him for a few hours everday and keep the television on.

I don't really watch television nowadays, although I may have a lot of time now because of the semestral break. I stopped watching too much TV when I entered college, mainly because we don't watch TV in our dormitory and just study instead. We get exhausted with school and stuff so we just tend to sleep and rest. And besides, I usually watch most series and movies in DVD and in my laptop now. Take care! :)

I am not dependent on TV i can go weeks with out watching it. When i am away at school i watch it sometimes, but not everyday. When i am home i am always out doing something and never have the time to sit down and watch a TV show. So if there was no TV i would just be outside doing what i always do.

well I am always knitting or crafting something while in front of the TV so I guess I would just keep doing that. I could replace it with the radio really since it is on for me any way for noise. My husband might not be that easy he always has it on. I would miss Supernatural though, I love that show.

Hi Sharone, I was a TV addict for about an year. And one thing about television, u can eat and watch simultaneously. As if u didnt know that. Anyway, I put on almost 10 kgs! That is when I decided enough is enough, I have to do something about it. So TV was off, and Internet was in. What is nice about Internet is u cant eat much while u r typing. So, I have managed to lose about 2.5 kgs, which I think is gr8. But I have been around only 3 months. Look at it like this, I weigh 60 kgs, and at the rate I am losing weight, how long do u think it will take me to become invisible. lol. Kidding. I did lose some weight thanks to the net. Hope I lose some more. It is better than exercising, and suddenly putting on more once u stop. And I am damn glad I am not diabetic. :)

I am not a TV addict, thus if I stopped watching TV tomorrow, I can do other things to fullfil the spare time easily. Basically, I turned on the TV daily, but not for watching. If we did not turn on TV usually, the TV will depreciate soon. That is the only reason for such function. Half of an hour is enough for that.
I spend most of my time on typing the keyboard, surfing the net and posting the discussion here. Apart from that, I will take physical exercise for that, just for reservaing more energy for the computor time.
Have a nice day.

Hey Sharone,
I don't really watch T.V anymore i used t but got fed up with it. There are still a few T.V shows that i watch now a days but i can watch them on the internet when ever I want so it's kind of pointless me owning a T.V. I do watch a few movie online too there are a lot of good sites for that. I don't watch T.V so it would be a more what would I do without the internet kind of question the answers simple go "outside" (shivers) lol.

Days and weeks can go by without me ever turning on the TV. I didn't even have one until about a year ago when I wanted to watch football and decided it was worth it for that. When I do watch it, it's football or baseball and the news. For those times, if I weren't watching TV, I'd be busy as usual, cleaning house, cooking, here on myLot or doing other programs. I might be listening to an audio book or reading, too.

I dont really know how much I watch..it varies...soem weeks I watch a few hours a day and some weeks I barely watch 90 mins....
If I stopped watching tv all together what would I do...lots of stuff...the same stuff I do now really...clan, cook, do things online, listen to music, read, spend time outside weather permitting and so on..

If I stopped watching television tomorrow I would have probably a couple of extra hours each week to do some extra stuff. If I stopped watching television I would probably spend that time reading more, doing more research on the computer, working online, playing video games, making music, or listening to music.

i am a somewhat solitary and anti-social person. i do not get out very much and i do not have any friends in canada as yet, nor have i made any effort to make any. i engage in solitary sports, and these include reading, net surfing and most importantly watching tv. i love tv and yes i have been called an addict, science fiction is one of the very cornerstones of my existence, so i spend a lot of time in front of the tube. it is also a very educational tool, i learn a lot from tv. i think that i would be a little lost without it, but i would adapt to not having it if i had to. if there was no tv i would read a lot as i have a very active imagination and i would also be on the computer more. who knows i might even actually leave the house to seek out people in real space.

I used to have a habit of watching TV everyday!
But now, I completely lost interest in watching tv and have spent much time online. Yes, if I have any spare time, I will spend much time on myLot. You see, here, I can keep in touch with all my friends, post responses to communicate with others and help people who are seeking help. At the same time, I also join Twitter, a social network microblogging site, where I can gain the latest news and information.
For my, watching TV is really a waste of time.

Hi, I used to watch tv all of the time. Back then i would have been lost without television. Now I have a son and no longer watch television much no time anymore lol. I would have to say not watching tv as much has made me actually be able to live life instead of staying home watching television all day. So I would definatly say that i could live without tv now because my son my whole day everyday .
