Corrupted File Ended My Computer's Life.

What a nice evening! Before I got to hold the computer because my brother finished his turn, suddenly the screen blacked out! And said, "missing or corrupted hll.dll"! I tried to reformat my hard disk but it doesn't boot at all, I tried borrowing another hard disk to be the primary and test if the problem is on it. And guess what? It still doesn't boot! Now I'm frustrated and don't know where's the problem, I concluded that it had damaged the motherboard also. What a lucky day right? Just because of a corrupted file my computer ended it's life. Tomorrow I'll go to the repair shop to have them look at it. Hope that the warranty should be used. Beware of corrupted files!

Cheer up my dear you're not alone. I experienced the same thing... all my files were corrupted both pc and in my usb. I felt so bad, i was not able to retrieve it. Our IT department told me in order to retrieve the file we need to purchase a software but it's very expensive.

Thanks, my girlfriend also cheered me up so I'm quite fine now. But I hope I wouldn't lose all the files and pictures there. Uhu

i had the same problem with my computer before. but i didn't have it repaired . just bought a new one. since the corrupted computer was a very old and low spec computer and run in Pentium 2 so i decided to replace it.
anyways, now my problem with my new computer. the cpu is working fine but the monitor, cause i was using an old monitor, i only replaced the cpu and not the monitor. and so the monitor is quite dark and dim and so i wanted to have it repaired. i am using a crt monitor. can this repaired and for how much. i don't know where to look to have it repaired. i can't find any shop here that repairs monitor.

A lot of people say that crt monitors are more likely disposable because they are kind a cheaper now, I think you could buy around less than P2,000, and there are also some lcd monitor worth about P4,000 and up. I feel you should just buy a new one.

There is a great chance that your hardware is not affected. I hardly know of any virus that can affect the hardware, or maybe there are some kinds that I am not aware of. The only case I know is when the malicious program gives instructions to the hard drive for the head to go farther and continue spinning.
Neither a corrupted .dll file can cause a systems crash. There are many causes of boot failures and I think you are doing the right thing and take it to the repair shop and make use of the guarantee. But I definitely doubt that it is the motherboard that has the problem. Anyway I wish you all the luck.

Uhu. I haven't brought my cpu to the repair shop, we were trying to have it a look to some freelancing hardware specialist that we know, but there not home right now. Thanks! I really hope it's not a hardware problem.

I think I can help you with your problem. the "missing or corruptedhll.dll" doesn't necessarily affect the computer hardware. The main victim would be your operating system which is Windows Xp or Vista if your on Vista. Maybe it caused the OS's video adapter compatibility to malfunction due to the missing file, which could be erased because of a virus or a trojanware downloaded unknowingly by the last user of the PC. In case you have borrowed another hard disk, make sure that if its SATA or IDE and properly align it to right sockets in the motherboard. And make a format of it too, to suit your make of PC. Directly connecting the hard drive from another computer to your computer without formatting it first will make it unrecognizable as drivers and OS of the original computer is loaded and not your PC. If your PC is still months old or new, there's really a big chance your motherboard is not the culprit. I have a near similar problem just like yours and i bought a second motherboard only to know that my original motherboard is not damaged, and only a week old when i suspect it is the culprit. It all just comes to the hardware connections, or software adjustments.

That makes sense, hll.dll is not a system32 file of windows XP, they say it's vista, unknowingly downloaded my PC or because of file replacement when I'm trying to install some Vista applications making the incompatibilities. Thanks for that info about booting from another hard disk, so it means that there are stored data coming from the motherboard and it recognizes the previous operating system that I installed. Thanks

I hate it when this happens to my computer, and the thing that caused it was having no antivirus. I was just surfing the web and then i got a message at the bottom of my computer saying corrupt file. So then i got an antivirus and it said that it was spyware was getting into my PC. the only way to fix it was by restoring the PC right back to the beginning :(
I lost all of my files and it was really sad seeing all my ripped music was going to be deleted. But i have now got all that music back onto my computer because using media player i just ripped the cd and put all the songs back onto my computer!!
Simple!!
But after that, i thought why don't i try and make some money online. and that is how i have joined this website!!
Thanks for reading and happy mylotting!!
Have a great day!

That's always annoying. I always try to be very careful about what or where I go on the computer. I have an anti-virus software installed, but you never know.

Maybe your brother broke it from inside, who knows he must have done with windows file like deleting some windows important files by mistake, i think you should try again with a windows working version, i never dealt with this kind of error in my life, so far i have seen retry windows not properly installed, not corrupted, maybe hard disk failure error.its best that you go see a proper pc mechanic.

Did you check the cable or replaced it with another one?or maybe just try other slots? because you said you used a different harddisk and you had the same problem, I have cases where replacing the cable, ide or sata cable, fix the issue of harddisk related errors so you might want giving it a try.

Yup, I've also tried that, switching slots, slave, primary, masters, etc. I also tried my extra cables but none work. Uhu
