I still stick by my mantra that writing articles is the best and least risky way to make money online. And by this I mean writing articles for someone else that pays a flat rate, not risking it by putting a lot of revenue-sharing sites. [Although revenue sharing sites still rake in a bit if you write about popular topics] I found my freelance job through GetaFreelancer and although it only pays $2 per 400-500 words, that is a guaranteed $2 that I'll get per article. No waiting around and praying that people look at it. :P
I think making money through blogging is only for people who are really dedicated and really known how to use SEO, otherwise...for the average Joe, it's just not all that profitable because, again, you have to take the risk that no one will look at your site.

I think it is different for everyone. If you could come up with a web site, like myLot where you have a lot of different users who come to your site every day, that would be the way to go.
Unfortunately, for me, I haven't been able to get that many people to visit and correspond with either of my web sites, or my blogs. So the most profitable thing has been my articles.
The main reason that they are the most profitable is because the continue to receive residuals. So, even though I only write the article once, they continue to receive income for the life of my membership on the web site. This works out excellent for me.
However, I still spend the same amount of time here on myLot because they pay immediately. That way, I have income coming in now, and later. Plus, I have income coming from different directions.

Right now I'm doing a variety of things. I play Everquest2 and sell platinum and other in game items on servers where they allow you to do that. I make the most money with that game by far $350 this month. The second most I make is from surveys right now I'm just using one company, but I will probably expand to do a few different companies in the future when my fiance gives me a referral email. The smallest money I make is from moola doing searches mostly. They used to pay pretty well, but either I'm not lucky the past few days or winning .01 from searches is getting to be more common.
