Since we need fire for cooking, lighting candles, cigarettes, or in making fires, which do you prefer to use, safety matches or a lighter?
Safety matches are cheap and biodegradable. Lighters are easier and more convenient to use. If you are an environment-loving person, which would you prefer to use, safety matches or lighters?

I don't use any of the two. But if I were going to choose from them, I would probably go with matches. As you have said it is more biodegradable. If that is one way I can help the earth then why not. Simple things like this can do a lot to save the environment.

I always use matches when starting fires during cooking and lighting candles. Yes, it's cheaper.
But when I went camping I had a lighter because it's much handy. Then after I just give it away to my campmates who likes to have a lighter always because he smokes.
One day at home, there was lighter among other things and suddenly it disappeared. Then my brother brought another one and it diappeared too. Well, someone a relative was in the house and kept on using the lighter and eventually went home with it. LOL
So, now there are no more lighters at home.

Safety matches...heck, they're just a ton more fun with the FWOOSH, than the clik clik of the lighter.
