Lots of people told me that I was a clever and ...person.
Anyway, they are good words.
haha, I told them it was not like that...
Well, for example, if you told an American she was beautiful, she would probably tell you "thank you"
If you told a Chinese she looked great, she would tell you...
"I don't think so"; "It's not like I am really that great." or "save it."
haha, this is the culture shock!
Let me come back to my question!
If 99 people said u were good at some point,you would probably get happy, wouldn't you?
But once in a while, one person told you you were bad at or for something,would u get upset? We all know that we can't please anyone...Even the best person in the world would get bad comment, but...how come we just look on the bright side all the time?
If you have already got a lot of praise for your writing, look, work, or anything, will you still take few bad comment to heart?

I think it would depend from whom the comment came and how it was said. Even the tone of the person's voice might make a difference.
As an American, I have had to learn to quietly say "Thank you" when given a compliment. To disagree with the person who gives you a compliment may be taken as put down or being disrespectful to that person. I was trained as a child to always consider the other person as better than I. That made it very hard to accept a compliment. If I didn't know better, I'd think my mother part Chinese.

Well, that depends on how severe that bad comment is. If it sounds like they really don't like what I'm doing then I will think about it, because I wonder why anyone would be so angry . . .
Even if I had a whole bunch of good comments, I will take the bad one to heart. I mean, the praise makes me feel proud, but if someone else doesn't thinks so . . .

I won't get upset as I can't pleased by everybody. If the one who give me the bad comment with a good suggestion, I will consider it and see if I can improve it or not. Otherwise, I just neglect it.

I am a chinese people, if someone tell me i am handsome usually i would say that is not the case. but as the nation`s culture interacting with each other, and i will say "thank you" when hear recognition.

I like praise and it really works on me.The good words can add my self-confident in some certain.But not too much praise for that will make me think it is not true.I hope the distribution of good words and bad comment other persons give me is 7:3.The 7 may make me happy and confident and the other 3 can remind me not proud of myself and can inspiriting me to go on and on and make me better

Well no matter how many praise we get is we get even just one bad or negative comments we would surely try our best to deny it, because that is the nature of the human heart, nobody can take a bad comment even though they might seem so, the difference is some can pretend not to care and some just can't help it but to show it like an open book, and beside the one bad comment can tumble down the 99 good comment and praise, because people are more attracted to bad things than the good.

Hi hiddenwing, We all like praise, even those who would deny it, and it does make us feel good. As you say we cannot please everyone and it's foolish to try. People who have a thick skin don't mind the bad comments and they do come to anyone who is willing to make a stand. Like most people I couldn't handle it so well when I was younger but it doesn't bother me as much today. I realize that I have a right to my opinion and if someone gets nasty, they are are hurting themselves more then me. Such people are usually not happy in life. Blessings.

It is hard to anwser.
everyone likes listening good words, and dislikes bad.
however, for me, whether a person prise or make bad comment on me, his/her eyes will not betray his/her heart.
so, i think, that i will get upset or not depends on the expression of the person and concrete cuircumstance.
