To trick and not to treat that is the question?

OK Halloween is just around the corner, to be exact just two days away as I post this topic, now I never really got into dressing up, but I love eating the candy and watching the horror fest on TV, and my question is for those of you who enjoy the full tradition of Halloween. will you be going trick or treating with your children? now the reason I ask is because I recently saw a news broadcast and it said that some parents will not be taking there children trick or treating due to the swine flu epidemic, because some parents fear that swine flu may be past to there children through the handling of candy from person to person.
Parent's do you worry that your child may be at risk of getting swine flu on Halloween and dose this threat make you think twice about going trick or treating?

I had not thought about the swine flu when it comes to trick or treating. I am taking my two boys and can't imagine fearing a flu so much that it interrupted my traditions. Perhaps I am foolish for not thinking about it but I just can't live my life in fear. It is not that I don't think we could get the swine flu, because I understand it is a possibility.
My three year old is going to be a dragon and he is very excited. He has been wearing the costume for a couple of days and is perfecting his dragon noises and movements. It is pretty cute. My 7 month old is going to be a pumpkin. Pretty standard but it will keep him warm :)

I will! We are going with a spaghetti dinner before hand with three other families and then going trick or treating with a big group. The kids are all excited to hang out together and we should score a good amount of candy

I don't have children, and I don't know if I would want them to trick or treat. I'm sure I'd only let them go to the houses where I knew people, and I'd know if anyone there was sick. But yet I know that doesn't mean germs aren't spread. I would hope parents would take advantage of some small community events. Like our church is having a small Harvest Festival Halloween night. It's not big enough for masses of kids to come, so the risk of being cloistered in one space with a bunch of children and adults is slim. All the candy is wrapped, and there will be games to play (they are even providing hand sanitizer for games that include throwing a ball or such - so germs will be less of a worry). I think this is a good time for parents to look for events like this. People are really taking into consideration parent's concerns.

I agree, I do have children and we have something similar here and I like the alternative of having a safe environment for the kids to go to. But Christians and other religious church goers can still get the swine flu so I don't know if that would help the person who is fearful of catching it. I personally will take my kids trick or treating because we live in a small community and know alot of the houses. and then we go tothe harvest festival after for games and fellowship with friends and family

Of course Christians and other groups get the swine flu. I was trying to convey that with only a small amount of people able to participate, and precautions taken such as providing hand sanitizer for children and adults alike who play games (I don't think trick or treaters give hand sanitizer, although I bet parents would prefer that to candy) it would be somewhat safer than what could be one's regular agenda.
Two little kids in our church got swine flu from their school last month. They recovered nicely in a week in a half.

i think trick or treating is only reasonable for kids up through high school. any older than that and it's really not appropriate. these people can buy their own candy (they should get a job!). as far as swine flu, i don't think there's any reason to worry. they're much more likely to catch a flu or cold at school from their classmates.

I think that for the parents that think the swine flu is going to get passed to them by trick or treating they should lock their kids up in their disinfected room and don't go out anywhere. I agree we need to take precautions but really, that means you or your kids should never go grocery shopping or to the mall or out to a restaurant or for that matter don't go to the doctor because that is probably the most likely place to contract the disease...I think people are totally OVER reacting to this whole swine flu business. If I was not going to go trick or treating it would not be for the off chance of 'catching' a flu. It would be for many other safety reasons. As for us, we will be enjoying the community trick or treating because it is fun. We quite often trade our kids their candy for a toy or something they really wanted anyways so they don't eat all that junk anyways.
The kids like the act of it. They like eating the candy but you don't have to eat the candy if you are that worried. Don't rob your kids of the fun of it just because of the paranoia of others and the stories on the media. Take regular precautions that you would normally take.

I'm not a mom yet, by the way and on the news entertainment show I saw there was a popular doctor that said it could be unsafe to go trick or treating at this time so the doctor on this particular program said that he was going to skip the candy treats just for this year, also I have to add that in my state there has been a some children that have been reported to have passed away from swine flu 8 children to be exact.
That's why some people in my state as well as in other city's and states are seriously concerned about this H1N1 virus especially during the holiday seasons when kids are sharing candy, and toys, its a real concern here in fact people in my state are worried that there isnt enough vaccine to go around.

Halloween is just a day when children and there parents get dressed up in scarry costumes and then they go door to door and knock and shout trick or treat and they get free candy, thats pretty much it.
But the history of Halloween is a bit more difficult to explain you can look up the full history of Halloween online just type in your search box the word the history of Halloween, and you should find out the full history of this holiday.
I never fully participated in this fun ritual but I enjoy eating the candy and watching the scary films that air on TV that day.

my son is 8 and wants to trick or treat but the weather is not looking so good for tomorrow. it looks like we may have rain all day and he just got over being sick so i cannot have him outdoors in inclement weather. we may go to the mall and trick or treat if that is the case.
