Bang! Bang! Bang! Oh My G. Who's shooting at us?

It did sound like someone shooting a pistol, but when I got into the kitchen there was overdone eggs on the floor, and the ceiling and the pan was scorching and smelled horrid . I turned to my younger sister and said, I thought you said you would watch the hard boiled eggs while I did the gardening?
She looked at me and said, But I did, you did not tell me when to take them off? Well as she was brain damaged I should never have left her to cook anything, but I had told her after ten minutes to turn off the burner and cool the eggs in ice water. but I think looking back at this from years now past I expected way too much of her. Any way I learned that overcooked eggs in a pan boiled dry will explode like gun shots going off. Did anybody else ever had a silly scary accident in the kitchen? I did learn not to tax my sister like that again.

oh zandi458 you were indeed so lucky as gas is really so
explosive and your whole kitchen could have burned up.
we did laugh after we cleaned up all the mess, and my
sis was perfectly willing to go out to a cafe for
dinner that night. We had a faulty microwave and myson
stuck his coffee cup full of coffee into warm, just as
something inside the wall began to smoke and the plastic
started melting. He got it unplugged before it really
caught on fire. the stench of melted plastic was truly
different.

hi ElicBxn oh my I come in a poor second after my son,
he is an excellent cook, guess he got that from his
father as he was also a very good cook. My sister, well
I just expected way too much from her. Her idea of watching
something was just that, stand and watch it.![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

hi zenstrive oh yes and I did not really realize it until
it was too late. She seemed to think that watch the eggs
just meant to stand and watch them. If it had not been so
scary and made such a mess I could almost have laughed
but at that time it sure did not seem a bit funny.![](/Content/images/emotes/angry.gif)

You should let her out of kitchen. It maybe hurts her and the worst. No,mom won't allow me to approach the kitchen, let alone enter inside, evenif she need help.she aways said:"what you should do is out of everything about the kitchen".

oh lichee__ china you are so right,I should have known not
to let her help in the cooking at all. well I did learn two
things that do,do not overcook eggs else they will explode
and two. my sister was not capable of handling cooking chores at all.

I've never had anything like this happen but I'll never forget the story my uncle told. May God rest his soul, but this was funny. It was when the miorowave ovens were just out and my uncle was going to do the good thing and buy auntie one which he did. He was so proud of this microweave oven. He had no teeth and no one could tell a story like he could. He bought a good one and paid plenty for it. He loved boiled eggs like no one I have ever seen. He was told the microwaves cook fast, so he thought that was pretty good. He placed a dozen eggs in the microwave and turned it to twenty minutes. He discribed the popping and banging sounds till I was laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. The eggs all exploded and he said he cleaned for a couple hours while everyone else laughed. Too funny!!!

hi grandmaof2 oh dear what a mess that poor man must have
'had, my son did the same thing only with two eggs he was trying to soft boil. He forgot them and kerplooey they exploded and then he had a big mess to clear up. He is the kind of person who would take two hours to do what I would have done in forty five
minutes as he inspected every crevice in the micro and washed it out thoroughly , rinsed, and dried it. It was so funny as he kept saying but I was only on the computer for a minute, no son it was more like twenty minutes i said. he he![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

Hi Hatley,
You could ask her to do the gardening then the accident could be avoided.
In kitchen like these kinds of accidents are common, if our attention distracted then something will happen definitely. Mostly I am wasting my milk. If I stand near to the milk then it will take long time to boil and if turned to do something it will definitely fell down. If I ask my niece to take care of any food which I am preparing, it will get spoil that is sure, better I will give the responsibility to her ask her to prepare it herself then there won’t be any problem.

hi sreekala hi yes that would probably have been a better
idea all around. Oh yes milk is really easy to let boil
too long then you will scorch it and oh my how awful it
tastes and smells too. I should have watched my own eggs
well we all learn.

I remember when I was about 4 or so, my mother was making apple sauce in the pressure cooker. I'm not sure what happened, but the cooker blew its pressure gauge and began geysering apple sauce up to the ceiling - a boiling hot and sweet mass of sticky gooeyness. Mom hollered at me to get out of the room and go to my bedroom while she tried to bring it under control without getting burned. I've been afraid of pressure cookers ever since!!

hi jerzgirl my mom had the same thing happen to her only
she was making beef stew. She had beef chunks and carrots and
onions on the ceiling, all over the stove and on the floor.
she got one hand burned but it was just a minor burn. I
ran in but was too late to stop it. I had one too , but
after that I never did use it. I am really afraid to use
the thing.

hi shar10 it was so funny after I got the mess cleaned up
as my poor sister kept saying, you just told me to watch

Hey Hatley! I have done that myself! I have been boiling eggs
and totally forgotten about them many times and have let them
boil out! And not only do they burst, burn the pot and explode,
but the sure do smell horrid! I have no one to blame, but myself!
I just sometimes forget that I put them on the stove and leave
the kitchen to do something else and then don't remember them
until it is way too late! And now that you reminded me I actually
need to go boil some eggs right now! I should be able to do it
ok since I am in my kitchen/office mylotting so they should be
safe as long as I stay in here and stay on mylot until they
are done! Wish me luck!

hi opal26 Yes indeed I do wish you luck.my son would get
so carried away on the net he would let his dinner burn
so finally he got his alarm clock out and set it for
the time his food should come out, no more burned
messes.

Hi Hatley, the only exploding food I can recall in the kitchen is popcorn.
I do remember leaving the house though and driving straight back after five minutes as I couldn't remember if I'd left a couple of eggs boiling on top of the cooker or not, and I had, so a good job I drove back home again.

hi thea you know I was in the midst of last quarter exams
when I went back to the U at age 56. I was on the bus and
kept thinking I forgot something but couldn't think what
it could be. But when I got to the U, I phoned my home and
my son answered finally.I asked him to check the stove, and he looked into the kitchen. he said,oh my gosh you forgot your
teakettle. its boiling away like cr azy. good think you called. It is not yet dry." I thanked him and went to my latin final, and
darn, I really flunked it. everything else I had nailed perfectly so my gpa was still 3.5 or something like that. I guess that was just not my morning. on the way to the U our bus stopped and we all had to get off. someone had called in a bomb threat. so they put us on another bus while these guys in black suits went through the bus very thoroughly. it was just a hoax but they did not know that til later. so I w as late in the first place to take the test so really loused it up badly.

hi peacefulwmn9 I really laughed when I read about that as
we had something similar only the pillsbury biscuits were
sitting on the ledge of the backseat right in the sun.
We were about ten blocks from our house when they started
to explode. my hubby pulled over to the curb as he thought
for a moment that they were instead a blow out. then he looked
in the back and saw the biscuits scattered all over the place.
So we gathered them all up and put them in a clean grocery
bag we had. I was surprised that they still baked up okay
after that episode.

hi gardengerty I sure did not know that eggs like that would really explode.sure learned two things that day, eggs will explode if cooked too long, and that my sister was just not smart enough to let her cook anything. one day years later I put a one serving pizza in the oven and I really did forget it.I was mylotting too at the time. the smell of scorching sure got me in to the kichen fast. The pizza looked like a black frisbee.

OMG Hatley! That would scare the day lights out of me too!! I think I'd have hit the floor so fast that I'd be a blur! lol Oh the mistakes we make in our lives. And yes, I made a big mistake in the kitchen one time. Having been through 5 fires in my lifetime, this was an almost 6th. I had put some cooking oil on the stove and something distracted me and I forgot about the cooking oil till a billowing of smoke came into the living room, I got up from the floor and flew into the kitchen and realized what I had done! The pan was on fire that it was touching the vent. Not thinking clearly about getting a top to smoother the flames, I freaked out and grabbed the pan and tried to throw it out back but couldn't get the sliding glass door opened so I flew into the living room with the pan and threw it out the front door. Some of the grease had hit the back of my sectional couch and marked it with a tear drop pattern but didn't catch fire, THANK GOD!! But I haven't done it since nor do I intend to either!! That scared me coo coo!!

Your poor sister must have been scared when they exploded, and you as well. Sure glad that neither of you was hurt! I had no idea that they'd make such a sound like that, but I sure believe you that they did. The worse silly accident I had in the kitcheck was exploding potatoes in the microwave when I forgot to pierce the skins. What a mess all over the inside of the microwave!

hi catdla1 oh we were both scared until we saw what it really
was, I had never known eggs would explode like that.
At work in the library one of my coworkers had a potato incident like that too, she had no idea of how long to bake the potato in the microwave so she set for too long a period. boy what a mess she had to clean up, and you could smell scorched potato all over the library.

What a fright you had,it must be very hard to deal with someone who does not understand.I have ruined the odd saucepan by boiling somethings dry, burnt potatoes smell something cronic or cabbage that is really bad.We did have a bit of disaster in the kitchen a few weeks ago but it was funny.I was making biscuits with my two grandchildren the little girl was not beating the egg hard enough,so with out thinking I said "don't be frightened of it beat it hard" we were then showered with flour as my grandson had the flour"I am not frightened of the flour nanny look" We fell around laughing our heads off and he demonstrated with a big smile on his face as a white mist filled the kitchen. Those biscuits were the best ones we had ever made.
