I've Finally Won On The Lottery!

Like millions of others, I've played our lottery, week in, week out, since it began (I'm guessing that must be around 15 years now), and apart from the one time I won £93, and a couple of tenners, I've not won my fortune yet.
So today, I was in the supermarket, went to the desk to fill in my little lotto slip, and decided I wasn't going to play it tonight. Money's tight, and I never win anyway, so might as well save my dosh.
It hit 7pm, and I started to think "What if I've just done myself out of a winner?", so I had to watch the results just to torture myself.
I've just realised that it sounds like I'm about to say my numbers came up! Well, nope. Not one single one of them. Again. So as far as I'm concerned - I won! Only £6, but still, I've got that £6 in my pocket!
So I've decided that from now on, I'm not paying for another ticket to feel like a loser every Wednesday and Saturday night. I'll be a winner instead - each time my numbers don't come up and I still have my money.
So that's £12 per week, which will be £624 a year. Enough to pay for Christmas 2010, I think!
Just wanted to share! Lol!

Hi Louc, i thought lottery tickets were £1. So you've actually spent close to £10,000 on lottery tickets and in return has just over £100. I think that pretty much sums it up as a total mugs game. If you'd stuck all that in a tax free isa think how much you'd have now.

I know, I was cruel. But that's £50 a month from now on in a savings account and see if that comes to more than £1000 in another 15 years, there might even be some building societies left to troll for a free windfall, I used to enjoy doing that. I expect it doesn't much happen anymore.

Awwww, Thea! You're cruel! I wasn't even going to start working out how much it must have been in total! Ouch! Ouchie ouchie ouch! Lol!
Yeah, I started just putting on 2 lines, so £2 per week. Then I picked up more lucky numbers when my neices and nephews started coming along, so I had lines with their birthdays as well, and somehow ended up with 6 lines. Then they started doing a draw on a Weds as well as a Saturday, so it ended up £6 per draw. But yeah, it's a lot of money when you multiply it. Not doing it any more though. Unless you're incredibly lucky, it definitely IS a mugs game!
Again, Ouch! Lol!

Louc74!!! You have got me there! I thought you really won on a lottery! I was gonna ask for a treat or even tell you to share a very very small sum hahahahah .
Well, neither do I lucky with those lottery and raffles... I never won anything in my entire life (except for the electric desk fan I got from our company christmas raffle but that's it nothing followed)

Hee hee hee! Hi, Lovelyn. I didn't realise how it sounded until it was half typed, then I just decided to leave it. We have this saying in Scotland - if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all! Lol! We're pessimists over here.
I also get entered into prize draws for doing online surveys, and earlier today, I got an email from the survey site, saying I'd won a prize in the latest draw. The prizes can be as much as £2000, so I opened it thinking "Yes!", and I'd actually won £2 worth of shopping vouchers. Talk about no luck! Lmao!
Just as well I have a sense of humour! :)

Well, congraulations.
Most of my colleagues just like you, every week will buy the lottery. But I have never done it before. I think the chance of winning is very very small. So I don't want to waste the money. But there are still so many people are fond of lottery. One of my colleague told me that, they have alreay throw more than 2000yuan in lottery. Even if he didn't win, but he is still loving this activiy. Maybe Lottery has become one parts of his life. The purpose is not to win, actually is just for fun. Sometimes, it can give some samll suprise to our life.

Hi, Littleleaf. You're right - it does become a part of life. You feel like something's wrong if you don't put your ticket on. But from now on, no more regular numbers for me. Maybe a random lucky dip, which is just a pre-picked ticket, but that will be only occasionally from now on.
Clever you, not wasting your money on it! :)

There's a popular lotto here in quebec called 649 where you have to match 6 numbers from 49. I had probability class and the chance to win with all the possible combinations is 0.000007151%. Yes the chance to win is pretty slim lol. After calculating that, i never played in those again...When it comes to gambling, they do anything for you to lose... Keep the monney for something else :P

Hi, ladysakurax, yup you're right - the only winners are the lottery owners.Well, I might buy just the odd lucky dip ( a ticket with preset numbers) from now on, but that's it with my regular tickets. Once Thea pointed out how much I've potentially spent over the years, that was enough for me! Lol!
I'm determined to save it all, and have a big spending spree this time next year! ;)

Yea ,lottery is a massive money waster. I've won about $6 once but never anything more than that.

Hi, Aulius. Yeah, I think we just get hooked on it, then you get to know your numbers off by heart, then you're too scared not to buy your ticket, in case your numbers come up, which would be awful!
It might be better if there were larger amounts given for just getting 3 numbers. I mean who really needs £14,000,000? (Though I'm sure I could find a use for it! Lol!)

Well done, Kathcake! I haven't had anything at all for ages, so just throwing good money after bad. I know what you mean though - you memorise your numbers, then you're too scared not to put them on in case they come up. But when I watched it the other night, I actually had that thought "OMG what if they come up the first time I haven't put them on", and it was such a relief when none of them came out! Lol!
I hope you spent your tenner on something completely frivolous and selfish! Lol! :)

My Mom always did the lottery and never really won, I think 100 pounds once or twice. Here in Japan they have a Lotto 6 which is similar to the UK lottery, I have never bothered with it. But twice a year they have a big lottery where you buy the tickets with the numbers preprinted on them. I usually buy a couple of those. Onr thing I like here is the new years cards that everybody sends. Each postcard has a number on it. There is a draw towards the end of January, the prizes range from the latest TV to stamps, we always seem to win stamps, which do come in useful!!
As for 624 pounds for Christmas, wish I were that lucky. Between four kids and not living in a country where Christmas is a holiday it costs me a fortune, Just to get the holiday treats from the UK costs me an arm and a leg. For example I need to buy some custard powder, which costs about 3pounds but with shipping at 25 pounds that is very expensive custard powder. LOL!!!
Sorry that I have to write out pounds each time, my computer doesn't have a pound sign!

OMG! That's extortion! I was about to say I'd send you some custard powder! Lol! But that doesn't do anything about the postage - that's not right!
Yeah, it's just a shame I don't have the money this year! I know it's so much worse for people with kids, it's such an expensive time. I hope someone over there starts importing that stuff so you don't have to keep paying through the nose for it. I'm totally shocked!

Well I a from the Us so what does that mean? Money wise I am saying I have no way of knowing how much money that really is. I play the lottery once in awhile but not a whole lot really because I look it as a way to lose money. Although here in the USA a lot of the lottery money is suppose to go to public schools which makes me feel better I guess. That fact still is though some of my money I need to keep. Congrats and happy mylotting as well.

Hmmm....ok I had to use my currency converter for this one! Lol! It's £1031 USD. But I don't have kids, so I think my Christmasses are cheaper than they are for many people.
You're right about losing money. That's it - I'm not doing it any more!
Thanks for your comment!

Hi! Hee hee! I know it isn't much, but it's getting to the stage where every penny has to be a prisoner!
I think it's more that I've wised up: I have a 1 in 14million chance of winning the biggie! So I'm gonna save my wee pennies from now on.
Thanks for the comment! :)
