Do you eat your 5 fruits and veg a day?

For years now we heard the mantra that we should eat at least 5 portions of fruit or vegetables each day. I must admit, I try, but I find it very hard. I have some fruit for breakfast and some vegetables with my lunch and with my dinner. At tea time I have some dried fruit and early dinner some fruit juice. But most days I still don't make my 5 portions.
Do you? How do you ensure you eat enough fruit and veg?

I definitely don't get all 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in every day. Some days I am better than others...but usually, no. I don't get all five in. Usually for lunch I have a salad of some sort which probably gets me 2-3 servings of vegetables..and dinner and breakfast vary and so it depends on if they have fruits or vegetables for it I get all of my servings in.

I was going to say no, but then I realized fruit juice and dried fruits also count. So it is possible, if I have muesli with dried fruit and a juice for breakfast a variety of salads in summer for lunch - winter I have a variety of vegetable soups, and a fruit yoghurt for tea, dinner having a vegetable side dish. To be honest, I cannot say if I have 5 portions daily though.

Fruit juice and dried fruit absolutely counts. It just depends how much there is in your muesli. Soups are a good way to get some vitamins as well, especially if it is a homemade soup.

I very seldom eat fruits and vegetables. But, I do however, eat things that have them in them. Like, I eat pizza which has tomatoes in the sauce. I'm not sure if this counts. If it does, then pizza actually fills all food groups: cheese = dairy, sauce = veggies, pepperoni = meat, dough = bread. Wow, and I was always told that it was junk food. LOL

I'm not sure tomato sauce on pizza counts as one of your 5 a day. A colleage insists chips count (made of potatoes after all!) and chocolate (because of the cocoa beans!). I'm not quite convinced though!

I eat some vegetables at least 5 days a week. I do not eat fruit everyday I may eat about 5 or 6 times a month. I have some instant oatmeal and one of them has apple pieces in it.

It is not always straight forward to know how many portions you really have. But at least you try to be healthy.

It's a good start though. 5 portions is really a lot and fruit isn't always cheap neither. Well done.
