I have polycystic ovarian disease...I assume we're talking about the same thing? I have a very severe form of it and will have to have a total hysterectomy in a couple years. For now it doesn't bother me any, who could complain about not having periods? I'm worried about cancer though, thats why I'm going to have a hysterectomy. My case isn't typical by the way...
I tried many medications including provera that I'd take for 8-10 days every couple months to induce a period but it quit working about a year ago. Some people have success with just taking birth control pills to regulate their periods. Generally if you can get your periods under control you'll do alright but if you're like me and have a very severe case there isn't an effective way of doing that.

Thank you for you response! I hope that everything works out good for you. Not having a period is generally nice, except for if you are like me trying to have children then it is kinda important. I wish you the best of luck!

WARNING: PCOS is NOT a reproductive disorder! If that's the only way you're being treated, FLEE! The reproductive element is only 1 facet of the disease! It's a genetic disease of the endocrine system affecting 5-10% of the female population of the U.S. It just lacks full expressivity; i.e., the appearance of symptoms varies from person to person, as in nichjake's comment.
I was on birth control pills for most of 7 years (I'm 19 now), which kinda worked in that they did keep my hormones in order (at the expense of my B-1 & B-6 vitamins). However, I've gone cold turkey for some months, now, and I'll be starting something I've heard about: iodide megadoses. (Iodide's UL is evidently forged.)
I've been under the care of a clinic studying PCOS. The ovary pain or infertility, for example, can be temporarily handled by laser surgery clearing off the ovaries. (When you ovulate every month, usually you form cysts that burst as ovulation. With PCOS, the hormones are off, so the cysts don't always burst and eventually can't b/c there's no room.)
