Your fear is quite genuine. I was also very scared of scam sites. In fact I wasted 2 months on them, when I came across mylot and found that this site actually pays . As far as I know making money online is not just fast or easy. To have a good income online you need to be patient enough to tried everything that you possibly earn something big or something small. If you like writing helium or ciao are good for making a bit but you'll need to write quality as what you make is essentially based on how many people positively rate your work. In the UK there is also dooyoo but not sure if this one is international. Hope that helps.

MyLot is a great alternative to earning from home. But this probably should be your 2nd or 3rd alternative. I have the same predicament as you. I have 2 kids going to school and found out that some students in their school were looking for tutors to aid their child's learnings. I figured, I could do tutoring for these kids for a few hours everyday. Tutoring makes real good money and this could be a regular thing to do since most school kids really need tutoring.

You honestly can't earn money on the internet fast. Anything you do will take time. When you open your own business, you don't start making money right away. The internet is no different. Other than mylot, here's a few sites that I use: Squidoo.com, Helium.com, lutlot auctions, and e-pier auctions. The two auction sites are similiar to E-bay, but they cost way less money to use. Squidoo is a site where you make pages about anything you like, and Helium.com is an article writing site. There's also survey sites you can use, but they do take a long time to make you any money, and you have to be careful with them. If they want you to pay, don't use them.

The only logical way to find work online was to join www.odesk.com. They get you jobs to do online from your home and pay you through very secure ways you get to pick. They get you to pick the fields that you are good at and what your interests and skills are, then you get to take tests and you get more jobs by getting more skills attached to your profile. A friend of mine who is a programmer has been working freelance through Odesk as an article writer. If you can write, then it's a good site for you. If you can't write, you can do data encoding.
