Has any of your family, past or present served in the military?

Maybe you have served in the military, or maybe your spouse is currently in the military. Past or present, I'd like to hear about the people in your family who have served in the military. One of my uncles was in the Navy, and another one of my uncles was in the Army. A couple of my cousins are in the military as well, the Marines and Army.

I worked as a civilian employee for the US Air Force for 4 years at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya. I also worked for 8 years as a Technical Translator for the US Army in Germany. My second husband was in the US Army. So I guess I could say I have done my part for the Military. Not to forget being a military wife is no easy job when you are stationed a foreign country.

As a civilian my mom worked in a POW camp for German submariners. This camp was in southeast Oklahoma, of all places. She was a library clerk.

My father enlisted in the army 28 years ago and retired from military service later and had tied the marriage. Nowadays, He has been released from the army for many years, but sometimes, I can still feel the his combat style. So, maybe due to the influence of my father, I am dreaming of being a soldier too. But now, it seems that it is next to impossible for me because I am so thin and bony that I will be refused even if I work hard to be accepted. It's glorious for me and most people to have relatives who have served in the military.

Well my father was in the army during the Korean War but not active duty as he was stationed in Germany. He couldn't serve active duty due to his 4-F ranking. Then my mother's uncle (my grandmother's brother) was involved during WWI in the Navy. Going way, way back my father's side of the family were involved with both the Civil War (my direct line were Confederates, while other branches of the family were on the Union side) and they were also active during the Revolutionary War

That's terrible. Have you been able to keep in contact with his extended family? Like your Aunt Carol...

Several. Both of my grandfathers served in World War 1 as well as their brothers. My father and his brother served in World War 2. I had uncles and cousins in the Korean War, my husband, his brother and other relatives in the Vietnam War. My nephew served in Operation Desert Storm. Most were in the army but my husband, and his father, were Navy men.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but when someone joins the Navy, do they do any tests to see if they get seasick, or do they just provide anti-nausea medicine. See, I know I'm asking a stupid question, yet I'm dumb enough to ask it anyway.

I am in canada so serving in the military is uncommon. Of course canadians do but just a few we have a small military. My grandfather was in world war II, that is the only family member who served in the army.

Yes, there are a few that I know of. My late maternal grandfather was in the army, I believe. One of my cousins served in the Navy as well as her husband. I also have a couple of male cousins that served in the military. I think it's the army. As for anyone else, I'd have to ask.

Currently my son-in-law is serving in the Army. My father served in the Army, 4 uncles served in various branches of the armed forces, as well as both of my grandfathers. I have several great-uncles who also served in the military. And my brother-in-law served in the Marines. Hope all of us have shown respect for those lost at Ft Hood.

Hi AmbiePam Yes My husband now..served in the Army back in the late 70's for about 8 years. He talks about this all the time. The places that he got to see and all. Then my father also served in the Army. He was in the World War II. When he was alive he spoke of his adventures also. I love listening to the stories that they both tell about what they did and where all they got to go. Great discussion and have a great day. Keep smiling my friend.

I am an Army veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. My younger brother is an Army veteran who went to Saudi Arabia after Desert Storm. My Dad was an Army veteran who served in the Korean War, and did two of my Mom's brothers. My Dad's brother served in the Air Force. Several of my great uncles on both sides served, mostly in the Army I believe, in WWII. I also have great great uncles who served in WWI. My sister was married to a Marine who served in the first years of the current conflict in Iraq. My husband is an Army veteran as is his brother. His sister served in the Navy.

My dad served in the Navy for 23 years. Both my brothers were in the Army and my sister married a man who was in the Navy. My husband used to be in the Army and I was in the Army Reserves. So we are definitely a military family. LOL
