Reality TV- are you over it?

It's been going on for quite a few years now and it just seems to get tackier and tackier as time moves forward.
Real reality TV, for me, is a hidden camera recording people's ways of thinking, speaking and living. Now that would be interesting. As far as I'm concerned all people do on these shows is show off and act fake. It makes me sick and really does not entertain me.
It's time we scrapped this garbage and put some decent programs back on TV.
What do you think?

i'm way past over it.
some of those shows are to much information on some celebs and it's encouraging people (balloon boy) to do stupid things to get a show.

If you put a hidden camera in my dining room at mealtimes you´d end up with far better viewing than most of the rubbish so called reality TV shows that air. In fact, we´re so convinced that we´d make good viewing that we actually joke about it whilst we eat!
We host working holidaymakers from all over the world, so when you get a bunch of random people with different views, different cultures and different perspectives things are bound to be interesting. More so than locking a bunch of barely known ´celebrities´in a room together anyway. At least we find interesting things to argue about!

I totally agree with you the only reality show I like is Dancing with the Stars and that show is not tacky at all. I heard they do this because its cheaper to produce a reality show then a regular show. We as a society deserve better I believe especially now that we have to pay for TV. We don't deserve to continue to be subjected to such garbage that they rather keep putting on the Television.

I’ve always disliked reality TV from the very beginning…I have always maintained that contrary to what they would like us to believe, reality TV brings out the worst in us.
From among the programmes being aired here in India, I have categorized reality TV programmes as kids, adult soap and adventure types. The worst I feel are the kids…made to sing and dance and act out the most asinine parts, they teach the little angels nothing but bickering, back stabbing, jealousy, unhealthy competition, lying, creating scenes and so many other things that I really feel that the Indian Govt would at least ban kids reality shows…*shrugs* but you know how strong *political* willpower is!
Then there are those adventure shows…macho boys and pumped up girls, all very false and equally aggressive beneath that veneer of urbane etiquette and lastly we have those Big Boss types (I really fail to understand why would perfectly sane hardworking people who have better things to do…pay their time and monies worth to watch other people cook and wash and go to the loo and make complete fool of themselves with little left of manners and etiquette and just short of breaking into street-fights of slum areas! Absolutely garbage and the worst of the lot…the fake tears and false smiles and artificial hugs

I'm sick of it too. The worst ones are The Real Housewives (of the OC, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, and now Washington D.C.). That stuff may be entertaining to some, but it's a bunch of cr@p to me. I remember reading about one housewife they got rid of in the Atlanta show because she was too "drama free". There are two reality shows I do like, and they are competition reality shows. I like Project Runway (although this season hasn't been too good), and Top Chef. I do also enjoy Dirty Jobs, and that's a really good one because it shows how much we ought to appreciate the people who are in those difficult and thankless occupations.

Well I felt that way from the beginning and never watched any of them. But I hardly ever watch TV anyway. I have to laugh sometimes when I see your discussions as when I first came here I had no clue what you are talking about. Over time I realized that the people's names you were mentioning were not people at all, but characters from some TV show. LOL. The only three shows I just loved were Creature Comforts, the animation of animals talking about you-know-what, and the DangerMouse comic strip, and to some extent The Riches! That last one was bizarre, huh? They got rid of Creature Comforts on the pretext that it was too rissque for family viewing but the trash they replaced it with was actually indecent and the animals were so cute and not at all dirty-mouthed.

I enjoy some of them, like the cooking and dancing contests. One that I really did enjoy, a lot, was Gene Simmons Family Jewels. That was entertaining and not ridiculous. A cute family that were very nice.
Some are just plain stupid and some are liveable if I am really bored and that is all that is on (not usually, lol).

I like the ones where people are actually doing something like Dancing with the stars and Idol, although I am getting sick of the latter! I used to be a Big Brother fan when it first started in Australia but after what seems like a trillion series I was thoroughly sick of it and the novelty had well and truly worn off! The only one I still like is Dancing with the stars because my daughter is a ballroom dancer and I love watching it; all the others can disappear as far as I’m concerned!

Yes, I am tired of the reality t.v. shows too. I don't think the networks would get rid of them because they are saving lot of money not hiring writers for them. I think they are just here to stay and I will just have to deal with it.
