I just want to know the varied reasons why some people in this world could not stand the bible. They are so away from it. They are not interested in it. For me, I see the bible as a connection between God and his people. It is the way in which he wants to talk or speak with us. It is something that he wants to reach out to each and everyone of us. Full of messages of love. It's just that people are concentrating on his punishment when in fact he is a God of love, a God of forgiveness...This is just what the devil wants us to picture God...the devil is destroying God's image because the devil knows that if we all, I mean ALL - realize how unfathomable God's love is for us, everyone will turn hatred into goodness and love. What do you think? I respect your decisions, insights, principles in life, ideas, thoughts about everything though. So feel free to express anything. :)

I believe there is only one reason a person would "abhor" the Bible. They live in darkness and prefer it that way. The Bible exposes the sins of mankind brings it into the light. If they truly came into the light, they could no longer hide that which the dark hides.

Hi cfmedrano, I think that some of it is that a few of those who go to church give people the wrong impression of what it means to be a Christian. Also, we all know that there are some stories in the old Testament that are not not great. Others hear teachings about a God sending people to hell because they don't believe a certain way. It really depends upon one's introduction to the Bible and what you hear about first. Blessings.

I would like to respectfully disagree with you. I do not believe that the manner you were introduced to the Bible determines your ultimate view of it. I was raised in a christian home and we attended church faitfully. Our Bible stayed on the livingroom table and we read from it often. However, my opinion of the Bible changed greatly the more I studied both the Bible itself and the history of the Bible. When you say "some stories in the old Testament that are not great" you are sugar-coating the matter. Many of them are disgusting and immoral. i.e. stoning your chilren because they misbehave, slaughtering whole villages except the virgin girls (those you keep for yourself), God sending two she bears to eat children because they teased a bald man. The more I read the Bible the more I found that it did not reflect the God I thought I knew and loved.

Hi again cfmedrano, I agree that your choice of the words to describe some of the stories in the old testament are much closer to the truth than mine. I was never taught to take the Bible literally. There is no doubt in my mind that all of these things you mention were done in these times and no doubt in all parts of the world. Some deluded individuals may well have taught that God was telling them to do such things, but we don't need to accept that today. Today I read the teachings of Jesus, especially the Sermon on the Mount which I consider to be among the best teachings that the word has ever seen. There are other parts of the Bible that we can learn from if we remember that we don't have to accept it as the inspired word of God. Blessings.

because they are possessed by the evil one. the evil one works within them. Of course the evil one dont want people to be saved and believe in God so they throw darts, negative thoughts to people so that they will not love the Bible, or they are not interested in the bible or they do not believe that the Bible is the word of God.

I abhor the Bible because I love myself. In my opinion, it is not possible to love the self and Bible simultaneously. I love myself with all my heart, all my soul and all my strength. the god of the bible. especially the old testament, is a terrible and cruel God. I am far more loving and compassionate than him. Jesus is far better, but even Jesus cursed an innocent fig tree and frightened people about hell. Anybody who says people will go to hell if they rejected him are cruel. And do not tell me I should not question God's wisdom. I have every right to quesstion. Also, do not jutify the actions of the Biblical God in front of me. I cannot stand such absurd justifications because I am a loving sol.

One obvious reason why some people don't want to read the bible is that it contains the whole truth about God and people prefer to live in the "lie" rather than in the truth. In fact the answer can be found in the bible itself especially in the Gospel according to John. People know that the bible contains the truth and in fact, the truth itself because it is God's Word and God does not err yet people love darkness more than the light because their deeds are evil. You can find it in the first three chapters of John. People love to sin and they are even enjoying them unless they accept the Good News about Jesus and Jesus Himself, they are in bondage to sin. I was also like this before but since accepting Christ as my Savior and Lord, changes start to come to me. I began to love and appreciate the bible and my faith grew. You must also understand that the devil does not want the truth and hates it and he does not want people to know it because he wants people to be with him in eternal punishment in hell. The devil hates God and man because man is created in God's image and likeness. That's why he continues to tell lies among people that the bible is merely an old book and we can't profit from reading about it. But it is ironic that the bible continues to be the world's best-selling book of all time and the most read book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_books http://bookstove.com/book-talk/10-most-read-books-in-the-world/

I think some people don't want to read the Bible is because they don't merely understand it. I mean, they only see Bible as a book of stories and not as a Word of God. Some other things that I can think of is because they afraid to know everything as a sinner and the more they read, the more they feel guilty (I felt that before). Another one is they afraid to know what will happen in the future, especially reading the Revelations book. But now, I still continue reading the Bible despite of the fact that I'll feel guilty as a sinner. It is because through His words I am well directed to the right path. And Jesus through His blood will cleanse my sins... And inorder to help me understand the Book, I ask the Holy Spirit to act as my interpreter as I read the Bible.
