Is it wrong to leave long responses on MyLot?

Okay - I completely understand that I am a long winded person at times. When I get on myLot... I honestly don't care about the money. I bet you I've been on this darn site since February and I have earned $6.67... I could care less. I get on here to read people's questions or discussion starters, and the ones I feel "conected to"... I guess you would say, I take the time to write what I think its a valid response. I share personally similarities, I really talk it out! I get on here for the discussions, the debates, and just... relaxing.
So... am I wrong to write 4 paragraph responses on a topic that's really close to me? Or maybe even a topic that strikes a nerve? Or if there's a discussion started that you just know its going to be a really strong anwer one way or another... so I choose the apposing side to get a good discussion going - make people open their minds a little. That's why we ask these questions on here, right?
I ask because I got an email telling me I "really need to keep it to a minimum when responding on here. no one really cares what you have to say. its only about money"
So - are we really here for the sole purpose of making money? Or is it "okay" for me to come on here to speak my mind?

Most certainly not, and whoever sent you that email was very rude and uncalled for.
From my experience with this website, it's always the longer responses that have impressed me and drawn me into a discussion. They always seem well thought-out and manage to express themselves more intelligently and effectively than a response that runs across a single line.
I myself type long responses because I feel I have delivered my views and opinions far more accurately and intriguingly than if I were to have typed no more than two lines.
Just keep MyLotting and do whatever the heck makes you happy ;)

Not at all. If someone has something of substance to say then by all means they should be able to say it. So long as it is kept in a civil manner I see nothing wrong with it (that goes with any post, of course). In fact mylot encourages us to be descriptive in our posts.
As I see it there was no need for someone to say that to you. If they didn't like it all they have to do is ignore it. It's not like they are required to comment back, after all!
If they are really here for the money though, they would know that long quality posts earn more than short posts. Not that it really matters because it's not like we're going to get rich from it anyway. LOL
Happy mylotting!

Hey shell, you should totally ignore that email. That person had no right telling you to cut back on your responses. I for one, actually enjoy reading your long responses. It's a good way to keep the discussion going and it's so much better than those short responses that don't really leave any room for comments. Just keep on doing what you've been doing. That single person might not care and is only here for money but I bet there's a bunch of others who do enjoy your posts.

Hi saizo6 - I'm glad that you enjoy reading my long winded responses! lol When I have something to say - damit - I'm going to say it! Even if it does take me 4 paragraphs and a lot of "oh sorry I'm rambling"'s. haha Thanks so much for your input on this!!

As for me, I would never be the person that would send an email to a responder that they needed to be less long-winded. In fact, in the discussions that I start I really wish that people would say a lot more than they have. I ask a lot of questions in my discussions trying to get good ones going and I really want to feel like the person has taken the time to really think about the questions because that is what I do when I am responding to someone else's discussions.
So, in short, no I don't think that you have to keep your answers to a minimum. I feel like you get a lot more out of a discussion when your really think about it and give your entire view. And, NO, I am not here because it is about the money, I'm here because it is a great place to have a conversation when I have no one else to talk to.

Yes, it is definitely okay to write long responses - heck, it is encouraged. Whoever said that "no one cares" and "it's only for the money" is wrong. People do read and listen to what we write, that's what goes on in all these discussions. You should do the opposite of what that person told you in that email.
Of course we are not only in it for the money - mylot does not pay much anyway, lol - but we are here for having a good discussion, like you've said. If the posts on mylot were all so boring and everyone posted just for the money then there would be very little interesting things going on! I come here because I find that it is a great place to be, and it is a nice habit, so I am sure that mylot should not be used only for the money but to express our ideas.
Maybe you could write an angry email to the person who told you otherwise . . .

haha - I thought about writing an angry email back... but what would it prove? Hopefully he/she just keeps en eye on my posts and feels like a dumb@ss now for every mentioning it :) Maybe they were just bored and decided to pick on me... who knows.
When I come on here and get a chance to speak my mind, it relaxes me. At work, I answer to my boss, at home I have compromises with my husband and daughter, and on myLot I am my own person. No one to answer to, no one to compromise with... I just get to... be. As you said.
Thanks so much for taking the time to check this out! And I like your way of thinking (with the angry email). That's normally very me... but why stoop, ya know?

It is obvious that we are not here for the sole purpose of making money.
As far as I know, high-quality concents are popular all the time, which can help people earn much more money, are more useful to the people who are seeking help. But at the same time, I have to say that long responses have nothing to do with high-quality responses. You see, some people post the responses with some words that are not relevant to the discussion on purpose, what they want is just to let their responses "become" high-quality concents in order to make money here.
Apart from earning money on myLot, there are still many things we can do, such as helping friends out of troubles, sharing our personal experience or improving the writing skills.
Happy myLotting!

hi shell no its not wrong at all. I often write long
responses when I am passionate about something or know
something about the topic. that person was very wrong
in emailing you that stupidity and I would ignore that
completely. it is okay for you to come on here and
speak your mind as often as you wish.we are all here
to enjoy mylotting and to earn a bit on the side as
well but to have fun and learn to know each other.

Say what you need to say. If you can do it in a sentence or two, great. But if you need a few paragraphs, that's fine too. The only thing I find annoying about long responses is if the person doesn't break them up into paragraphs, and then they're kind of hard to read...

I think it's fine to write your answers as long as you like, as long as they're relevant and interesting (otherwise people won't read them). To make a good discussion you have to be really interested in the subject, and when you're interested in something you will probably have a lot to say about it - so I think that long answers can definitely be a good thing for this site. (Also, if you were interested in the earnings side, know that you would probably earn more from long answers than the one-line or even one-word answers that some people like to write!) By writing longer, interesting answers you are adding value to myLot, so go on, speak your mind!
Out of interest, who was it who sent you this email? I don't mean you should name them obviously(!!) I just mean was it another myLotter or myLot themselves? Actually I can't imagine it being any of the myLot admins as that would kind of look bad! Either way, I totally disagree with what they told you. I know that a lot of people here (hopefully the majority) are very interested in what you, and other myLotters have to say, and that is why they come here.
It might be money that encouraged people to join in the first place, but most stay here because they love contributing to discussions on every subject, sharing their views and learning about others' views, and interacting with some really nice people.
So please take notice of them. Happy myLotting!

It was another regular mylotter just like you and I... I don't know what dude or chicks problem was... I wasn't mad or anything when I read it... just kind of "hmm... this would make a good discussion starter! Thanks jack@ss!" lol
Thank you for your input. I'm glad that we are all really here for conversation... and our $0.03 we make per post isn't the most important thing in life :)
Cheers!

Absolutely not a problem.. I think the more you write the better. I personally love reading a good story. I have written long responses myself, I have actually run out of room (there is word limit) and had to shorten my response and go back and abbreviate a bunch of stuff. I would totally ignore an email telling you not to be so long winded.
First of all -If as this person says we are here for the money- then they are idiots because the more we type the more we get paid. So they don't have a clue!
If they have a problem with reading or writing- then this is the wrong place for them.
I personally am not daunted by a long story- I love reading. I have seen other people's responses saying they don't read the whole discussion and often respond to only the title question. You know - if you do that to mine.. I often get perturbed enough to not answer you. I try to ask a lot of questions in my discussions so I really am looking for a long enough response to answer all or at least most of the questions.
My response to you is to continue doing what you are doing. If you are here for enjoyment, then do what you enjoy. For those that say they are here for the money and answer with a one liner- well, they will be here forever just trying to make pay out. They would be better off taking a cue from you! they might actually earn something. :)

Thanks for the response! And I'll admit - I don't always read the whole discussion starter. I'm a yacker and sometimes the title is enough for me to rant! haha But if you don't respond, I'll understand :)
I LOVE when I find some of the topics that I can relate to or I feel strongly about. I love sitting here and just letting my "fingers run wild" so to speak.
Thanks again!

I don't think so, it's not wrong to post long responses, we come here to share ideas with each other, so I think maybe money is important here, but not that important, I came here to improve my English, and also can make some friends here, we can read each others' discussion, and when we have problem, others can also help us, I like this feeling, I think this is more important than money.

I enjoy leaving longer comments. I also really enjoy longer comments on my own discussions. It shows the person has really read and is interested. I think in general longer comments are good. It's always ok to speak your mind, no matter how long it takes. Don't ever let anyone tell you different. :-)

it doesnt matter in my lot if your replies are long or short the only criteria is that it has to be apt and meaningful with perspective to the discussion we are taking part in that is what it actually requires rather than long and boring paragraph replies.I usually prefer short and crisp replies which are very much apt to the point.

Personally I see nothing wrong here with leaving a longer response to a discussion you feel like responding too. You do get paid better for quality responses here, so to answer back to someone's post with quality you can never go wrong with for sure. I know from time to time some of my responses back to others discussions are a little long winded as well. Even if that means less posting for the day, I still feel I accomplished something great in here for the day as well.

From what I know here at myLot you are allowed to express your thoughts freely, and if you feel like the only way to get your message across is to post a long response, then by all means do so, and I don't see anything wrong with it. I too become passionate with topics that are close to my heart, and I tend to write longer posts on them. I know some don't want to read more than 3 paragraphs posts, but I'm almost sure that the person who started the discussion will appreciate it more because there is a better chance at getting answers/insights from others which is the reason for making that discussion in the first place. And while I appreciate the money that myLot pays us for being here, it's still the discussions, friendship and the whole environment that motivates me to stay.

Hello shell2784 this is checkmail and leaving long responses in Mylot isn't wrong it not hurt by ignorance, this is just an possiblity. As there are many Mylot members which are really busy with othe online stuff as well as real life works, they get hardly less spare time.So they just need something useful but have less time to get it, so they call in for proper wordings short responses, etc.Yeah but you are always welcome by the Mylotter who have that much spare time to go through long responses or discussions.Hope you understand our other Mylot friends.Yeah its okay just responses anyone over here but try it in more attractive way.
