I had to call the police today

I heard something earlier today and couldn't figure out what it was. It sounded like cars but I couldn't see anything. Then all of a sudden two cars come flying by my house and they were side by side racing. Our road isn't really even big enough for someone to be racing on it. It was a black mustang and an older blue car (not really sure what it was). The blue car almost lost control of his car right in front of my house. All I could think about is that if he would have he would have come through my yard and possibly my house and into the living room my son and I were in. People fly up and down our road all the time and I have a 3 year old that I have to protect. I cannot have people flying or racing each other up and down this road because if they lost control and killed my child I would be devastated. Someone not too long ago was going too fast and ran into a tree in front of the house at the end of our street and it killed the guy. I just wish they would put speed bumps or something out to make people slow down cause it just scares me. My friend is a police officer but she is off until Monday so she told me to call and report it. I did and the dispatcher asked me what kind and colors the cars were and if they live in our neighborhood. I told her that I had actually never seen these two cars before so I don't know if they live down here or if they were just coming to visit someobody or what but that there is another black car that flies up and down our road everyday. So they are having someone patrol out here for a little while. It would make me happy if they could just find the guys and talk to them and let them know that is very dangerous. So would you have called the police if you were me? Especially if you have a 3 year old you have to protect and this happens often.

sweetgirl_k1,
I just cannot tolerate these reckless and dangerous drivers. If I were you, I will be taping their dangerous fly by and send it to both the police, television news station and the press. I am sure the response will be much faster and who knows these culprits might just end up being arrested.
I hope that the police will be able to catch them at the act the next time round. In the meantime, do take care as this is really a very dangerous situation to be living in.
Have a pleasant weekend.

A friend of mine told me to buy an outside video camera like the one she has and to tape them but I don't really have the extra money right now to buy one. I will keep on calling the police though until they do something about this. I wish they would put speed bumps out here to slow them down.

sweetgirl_k1,
Does your cellphone have a built in digital camera?
You may also want to call your neighbors to help and most of all don't forget to call the television news station.
Hope to put an end to these life endangering reckless riders.

i agree with you, recording and taking pictures of those kinds of evidence can show evidence that they really did this thing. and may i suggest also putting or cameras outside the house to determine who is a threat to your house, it's not that you always look up out side since you got other things to do

I think you had the right to call the police and that it was a good thing you did. We don't have anyone racing up and down this road, the only thing is is there is one guy who will keep driving and never seems to pull over to let us pass. We hardly are on the road when he is though. We live on a S curve dirt road, so anyone racing would most likely hurt themselves or others.

Our neighborhood used to be so quiet and then all of a sudden all the crazy's came out. lol The police came out but I don't think they found the guys. But if it keeps happening I will keep calling the police. I really wish they would put speed bumps out here.

Stunts with cars should be left to video games or professionals! I do hope they finally get the guys who keep racing. They could be killed or kill other innocent bystanders!

hello sweetgirl, am glad your son didn't get hurt. if they are going to do some reckless driving and racing head on, they should do it in the roads outside the neighborhood instead of scaring the lifes out of the settlers like yourself. some youngsters do that in my country as well but they do it in high-ways, still it was illegal and dangerous. you did the right thing for calling the cops.

Oh my. I would've called the police just as you did. Why are they even racing in a residential area? That's just crazy!
I think you did the right thing. You have a family to protect and since it happens quite often, I think it's about time that someone put a stop to it. Someone could get hurt. Well, a guy already got killed so I think that already is one life too many that's been lost on the account of some reckless idiots who have no regard for other people.

I don't why they were racing. And our street isn't really even wide enough for two cars to be side by side racing. They were just acting dumb.

I think you did right.Anyone would have done the same thing. These people are so passionate for speed driving that they hardly care for the lives of others.these incidents should be reported immediately so that appropriate action can be done.

I'm so glad to know so many people would have done the same thing I did. People just don't need to act so dumb. If they want to race and drive so fast they can do it at the racetrack and not in a residential neighborhood.

You did exactly the right thing. Cars have gone through peoples houses before due to idiotic driving, I would have been worried about my children's safety as well. Some people think they are invincible in their cars, they have no idea how dangerous they are. My Mum has always said to me the car is one of the most dangerous weapons we will ever own and we should have respect for them.
I was in a car accident myself a couple of months ago when some idiot thought he could speed out in front of me from a side road. He ended up going straight into me. Our car was a right off because of the speed he hit us. The car spun round several times. Luckily my three children in the back of the car, were fine. My daughters was right by the side of impact, her seatbelt was damaged but she was unhurt.
I have suffered whiplash ever since. But because of this driver thinking he could race in front, he put 5 lives at risk.
These drivers make me so mad. They should have their licence taken away if they haven't the respect for the road.

I detest People that put other People at risk like that specially in a small area and where at any time a child could run out
Why do People not go more careful on a Street where they know that someone could walk out any time
It just makes me mad that these People always get away with things and then end up hurting someone bad or even killing someone

It's things like this that prompt me never to leave the house without my cellphone. There have been times when I have had to call the police because I've witnessed something, or when something has almost happened to me (I almost got hit by a bike on the sidewalk one night), and it's been great to know that the police were just a quick call away. I am glad you were able to do something about the situation.

Yes, I don't know why people don't have enough brains to know that they should not speed in subdivisions where children might likely being playing. You can bet they don't have kids of thier own or they would be more thoughtful. I think you should call the city and inform them that this is a frequent occurance they need to do something about it even if is just a sign saying slow down. Hopefully they can do something to deter people from driving like that on your street.

I bet they don't have kids because if they did they would think about what they are doing and that they wouldn't like their kids growing up and driving like this and they wouldn't want their kids getting hurt. You know I didn't even think about calling the city and telling them and seeing if we could get some signs put out here. I think I might do that.

You did the right thing better be safe than sorry and today it seems that people have very little regard for life .It may not happen to you but it could have happened to someone else.Another thing is that many person drive while drunk and I suspect that is why one of the drivers nearly lost control of his car .I only wish that they have frequent patrol of the area so that they can catch these people red handed and make an example of them .

Yes, I want to protect him from any kind of harm. I will keep calling the police if these guys don't stop because I want them stopped before they hurt someone. It feels good to know that so many people would call just like I did.

I can't stand motorheads acting irresponsibly. I don't drive - but it makes me kinda glad, when I see ludicrous behaviour like that on the roads.
My partner was hit by an uninsured driver racing a taxi along a narrow street; she was just waiting at a bus stop. Now she has mobility problems and may well be in a wheelchair in a few years - all because some idiot thought it would be funny to put his foot down.
It really makes me mad; I'd have had the driver shot for negligence. Instead, he received a slap on the wrists and nothing else.
I'd definitely have called the police!

I'm so sorry that happened to your partner. That is terrible. They need to do more than a slap on the wrist to these people and maybe it would make some of them stop.
