Hi everyone:)) Most of us have a few mottos, those wise or inspirational sayings that help us get through life's rough times, or to keep our perspective and a positive attitude about life at all times. A few of mine are:The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."The Serinity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courae to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. Would you share some of your own sayings and gems of wisdom?Thank you:) Karen

I like this thread..I have a book full of sayings and quotes and cartoons that I collect so that when I'm having a less than great day, I can thumb through and feel a little better after. One of my favorites is on a disc in my foyer.."Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain." My nephew likes one of the ones that hang in my kitchen "Take a deep breath, you're home now." The one in the mud room that I hung for my son's team dinners reads."Courage isn't always a lions roar, it is sometimes the heart at the end of the day, saying I will try again tomorrow."

Hi Jewels, and thank you :) I also have a book like that I've put together over the years, and I find it a great place to turn when times are tough, or good either one. I love the two examples you've given, very inspirational, and a good idea to have them hanging in plain sight to turn to as needed. I imagine they've helped others, too! Thank you for sharing those here :) Karen

Hi Karen, I carry something around with me and I read it occasionally when I am going through a difficult time. This is how it goes: Don't quit. When things go wrong as they sometimes will, when the road you're trudging seems all uphill, when the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile but you have to sigh, when care is pressing you down a bit, rest, if you must, but don't you quit, life is queer with its twists and turns, as everyone of us sometimes learns, and many a failure turns about, when he might have won had he stuck it out, don't give up though the pace seems slow, you may succeed with another blow, success is failure turned inside out, the silver tint of the clouds of doubt, and you never can tell how close you are, it may be near when it seems so far, so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, it's when things seem worst when you must not quit. This certainly works for me! Andrew

Hello Andrew :) That is purely beautiful, and truly suitable for anyone's life in these times. I keep a diary of inspirational sayings, and I defintely will be adding that. Perhaps in reading it often, I'll be able to memorize it, and that would be a big help. Carrying it with you, well that's even wiser. Thank you for sharing that. Karen

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, My motto is to 'WORK AND WORSHIP'. Always think positiveand try andknow the meaning of 'Positiveness'. I bring out something in following ways. "WHY TO BE POSITIVE/THINK POSTIVE/DREAM POSITIVE. It has been established beyond doubts that, by way of living positive, it strengthens to face challenges in the life easily , but has any of us thought about each word meaning in its real senses, which are combination of ‘P O S I T I V E ‘ Let us define each word meaning and apply on-self. P------IS FOR PATIENCE , If one wants to make success in life, must have patience, people with patience do not think negatively and they find out some solution to their problems. They do not cry in adverse condition and come out in flying colors. O------IS FOR OPTEMESTIC means there is a always ray of hope in the life. So do not part away with hope. Do not blame fate and loose hope. Keep morale high full of expectations, and everyone is fed up with me. Under these circumstances, try to be hopeful. S------IS FOR SATISFACTION, people never get satisfied with lust in life. But they day one feels ‘satisfied’, thinking will automatically be converted into positive thinking. For this , on should look down, you will feel you are better and satisfied than those, who even do not get that much. Non-satisfaction leads to depression, so whatever, you have got and achieved , get satisfied with that. I------IS FOR INSPIRATION, one must get inspiration from their ‘Ideals/Examples/Gurus/Leaders etc’ . There are born living characters around, take their examples of living. How they come out from problems and live happily. Every body has something hidden/exposed goodness, follow them. Leave their bad aspects. One will become positive. T------IS FOR TARGET, if you keep your goal/aim clear in front of you in your life, you will never face defeat. What you want to do and how would you achieve your goal, keep and make it to yourself very clear. Once aim is clear, it can be easily obtained. Even, if it is not reached , keep something to replace the same. You will not feel guilty. I------IS FOR IDEALS, make your personality such that people around you should have blind belief and start following you, you should be ideal for them. By being positive, you can always remain balanced in your thinking, remain always happy, ready to help others, others will follow you. Once you make and foolow your ideals, why do’t you become ideal for others. V-----IS FOR VICTOR, one should always known for winning and not for loosing, for this one has to keep himself under high spirit. After you get and face defeat, you should re-start your aim once more with double your strength and capacity. One must agree real aspect in life that ‘Victory and defeat’ are two faces of same coin. Do’t loose heart after defeat, remember that dawn will come, success is sure to come and greet you. E-----IS FOR EASY, In easy life there is no room for negative thinking at all.. If you lead real life in real sense, you will never face any problems In professionalism, easiness must". Have a good day May God bless You and have a great time.

My friend, thank you for this. It is one of the most encouraging ways of defining positivity I have read in a long long time. It inspires hope anew! P - Pick up on the positive aspects of a good friend, even a good friend online O- Omit bad influences from your life and rather, follow the good influences S- Seek what brings you simple pleasure; share it with others I- Invite happy influences into your home, your life, your spirit T- Thank those who have helped you along life's path; thank God, too, each day I- Ideas that are positive should not be kept to oneself--share them with all V- Visit God often in prayer and in worship, and visit, too, loved ones E- Endure to the end with strength, faith, and hope, and love as your motivation Thank you again, my friend, and may God bless you with continued wisdom so that you can share it with all who will listen :)) Karen

Wow, this thread is nice, as we will be fed with encouraging words. For me, I have a lot of favorite sayings, and these are some of the best that I always bare in mind. I believe that what happens in our life isn't always the way we wanted them to be, but love makes it worth embracing. Then, another thing is, there's no such thing as wrong, because whenever we commit mistake, we have to see the brighter side of it why it happend, it is for us to become stronger to stand up again and do better next time.

Hello there, Lyte, and thank you :) I love your sayings, so strong and full of truth and hope. You've truly added a bright spot to this day. I keep a journal of inspirational sayings and quotes, and now I have two more great ones to add, thank you to yourself. You're right. We take the lessons from our mistakes, however bad they are, and we move on to do better. Karen

The human spirit is a very strong and adaptable thing, quite amazing, really, in the middle of dire circumstances. I believe focus on the positives, no matter what, helps us better manage the dark times when they do come. :)

hi Karen things that get me through this wild life. You can always do more than you think you can, words by a kind physical therapist to me when I balked at walking one more step with my quad cane after having a bad fall and breaking a shoulder with surgical replacement with artifical shoulder joint. my sense of balance was gone so I was being rehabilitated. So I would go a few more steps then a few more til I made it all the way down a long hall. Also I live by the golden rule, do unto others as you would have them to unto you. Lastly live and let live, do not be hasty to judge people you do not know. almost all of the judging we do on strangers is completely wrong. judge not lest ye be judged. I also live by that.

Hello Hatley :) Ouch! That had to have been so painful. I am glad you had a kind and motivational therapist to help you through such an ordeal. Those are wise words, simple, but so good. Live and let live...one of the finest ways to peace I've seen yet...again, simple but packed with wisdom...as is the quote on judgment. It takes a lot of living and learning to reach these points, but oh how nice when we do. Thank you so much! Karen

My favorite isn't a popular saying but when my son was only a week old and my parents knew things were hard on me and they would continue to be hard on me, my dad said these words to me, "Just stay strong". Those words play through my head over and over when I'm going through things. I wouldn't be able to make it through my life without my parents. They are my best friends and ALWAYS give me the best advice and encouragement that get me from day to day.

By choosing your thoughts, and by selecting which emotional currents you release. You determine the quality of your light. You determine the effects that you will have upon others, and the experiences of your life. Every thought has a frequency. Thoughts send out magnetic energy. People think about what they don't want and attract more of what they don't want. Choose your thoughts carefully.....You and ONLY "You" are a masterpiece of your life.

God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and a sound mind. 2Timothy 1: 7 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12

That's such beautiful sayings you have shared Karen. Thanks so much for the inspirational words. I think, inspirational sayings really work for me and i have always been fond of words of wisdom. Previously I used to keep a diary but now with internet the habit has gone. Sad though! One saying that always work for me and that I can remember right now is, When going gets tough, the tough gets going. I have drawn immense motivation from this especially in times of distress it had motivated me to get up and get going. Another, If you are going through hell, get going with a smile. I just love this and trust me it has always make troubling times easier for me. I just remembered another saying that my mom says a lot. Those who laze around, their fate also does the same! Whenever, I get lazy and tend to procrastinate I blabber this repeatedly and I get extra zeal to work.

Hello Mimpi :) I also have a neglected journal of quotes and sayings, but when I find one that is especially motivating, I do still jot it down. I love the wisdom and motivation in the sayings you've shared here. Yes, the best solution to trouble or inertia is to get busy addressing it! And we have a song here along the lines of another of your favorite sayings: if you're going through hell, just keep on going, and maybe you'll get out before the devil even knows you're there :))) Karen

I go by this sayings... "When there seems to be no way the Lord will make a way." "If God is for your who can be against you?" "If God wills it nothing can ever be against it" "God's plans are always to prosper us and not to harm us. Plans to give us hope and future" I always repeat these quotes in my head most especially when I am sad, or am having a hard day. It always calms me down.

God is always bigger than our biggest trouble. Thank you for the inspiration :) Karen

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history and today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. When it is not necessary to do a thing, it is necessary not to do it. Smooth seas do not a skilful sailor make. These I got out of a notebook of quotes my grandmother told me. I treasure that notebook now as she passed away three years ago and I miss her so much.

Hello Coffee :) Bless your grandmother for teaching you such wise things. I would cherish such a notebook, too. It will serve you well your whole life. It's so true that rough seas do not a good sailor make. It's like so many things in life. We do our greatest learning and develop our greatest skills in trying times, rather than during smooth-sailing times. I can see why you so miss a grandma like that. Thank you a ton for sharing these. Hi, PeacefulWmn! I remember when we had a barbecue at home and my nephew who was 8 or 9 that time saw his dad roasted some chicken wings. The flame didn't seem to co-operate so while his dad was fanning, he stood there and said, "I think, I can, I think, I can..." many times. Anyway, I love those inspirational sayings to keep me going and one of them is by Helen Keller, which I put up in my profile. It says, When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we looked so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us... Another favorite of mine is 'If you fall, rise up again...'

Good morning, Corry. What a cute kitten on your avatar! Oh, I remember your nephew's saying from a book I first read as a child about the little engine that could. I love that one :) He knows how to put positive thinking into action, and that is great. Helen Keller is a brilliant example in courage and motivation. Thank you so much for sharing that saying from her...it is definitely worth writing down! And you're right again ... falling down is not the failure, but staying down will lead to failure, for sure, so yes ... we must keep rising back up. Have a very nice day. Karen

You and I are definitely on the same wavelength. When I saw your discussion those were the first two things that I thought of. The Serenity Prayer is especially important for me because there are so many times that I feel like I am going crazy with the hectic atmosphere in the house, especially after my daughter, and all the neighborhood kids, get out of school in the afternoon. I have to repeat it to myself over and over and then I am able to make it through the day without yelling at someone or myself going crazy.

Good morning, Miss Dorann :) I also feel we are on the same wave length often, and each time I take part in a discussion you've started, I know it for sure! The serenity prayer is everyone's "best friend," and that is especially so for a young mom such as yourself. Just keep doing what you're doing :))) Have a beautiful day! Karen
