In my house I have 3 computers. My wife uses her own laptop, I uses mine and my daughter uses her own computer. I don't quite like sharing my computer/laptop and not to say that I am selfish but I just don't feel nice sharing it out as I am afraid that my stuffs get jumbled up or deleted or stuffs like that.
I don't mind sharing other things with other people, but more particularly it's that I don't quite like to share my personal computer or laptop with others.
How about you? Do you mind sharing your personal computer or laptop with others?

Hi Rtslvtwy,
We only have two computers at home for me and my husband. Our two kids used to share with us in using the computer. It's okay to share our computer with our kids but you are right they used to play on our files and even delete some of them.

i do the same too with my kids. i have to guide them with the kind of sites they open and explore, even the games that they play and music videos that they watch.

The wa that computers have been moving recently it's very easy just to create user accounts for all users on the computer and each will not be able to access each other's files without actually logging into their user account. This keeps files safe and protected from everyone else using the computer (unless you forget to logout).
Of course you still have to worry about your computer being infected by a virus or anything else taht is harmful. So you'll just need to make sure you have the right protection for your computer but I think it's fine to share your computer. I don't mind borrowing my computer but I really like to keep mine because I use it so often that others wouldn't be able to use it very much. :P

I live alone. My parents both work abroad so I stay in a dormitory near the university I go to. I have 3 roommates, and all of us have our own laptop. We basically take care of our personal files on our own without necessarily share laptops, except when we happen to ask certain favors from each other. So my answer would be no, I don't like sharing my laptop with others. I agree with you that it doesn't mean that I'm being selfish, but I'm just very particular with my personal things. My laptop is definitely one of my "things", you know, "things" that I just can't let anyone get their hands on. Well, except for my friends of course, with my permission and a valid reason. Take care! :)

Hello friend,I can't agree you any more. I also don't like others useing my computer. When I borrow my computer to others they always use it to piay games all the time.I think my computer can't bear this. And they would make a lot of virus in it.They also delete my improtant imformation. So I would not like sharing it with others.

no way, i hate it when someone even wants to use my laptop for a while. I feel my privacy would be encroached if someone else shares my PC. It is quite risky as you never know important files might get deleted by accident or saved settings might get altered somehow. There are certain things that i will never share with anyone-toothbrush, clothes and PC!!

While they have a computer at home, it is mostly for my daughter's schooling. Certain test and papers she can do at home instead of spending the day at school. Her daughter's are allowed to use it, but no utube or sites where they can pick up something. For it to be down would make a lot of problems with her shooling. So they are limited. As we only live a bit down the street, the youngest one is here a lot of the time to play on mine. She has facebook and my space and email. No matter what I tell her somehow when she leaves I have to redo or take off the junk she has put on it. I don't like utube and other sites that people download to because if they have a virus then it is sent through for you to pick up when you download their files. I'm not selfish and my daughter let me use her's for almost a month when mine was down. But when I tell you NO, then that means NO, but kids will be kids. I think each person when they get a new computer it is set up for them, and I'm always having to retype in my passwords because my grd daughter has gone to facebook or some other site I use and took me out and signed herself in. It is best that everyone have their own, just the fact that that is not possible sometimes because of the price.

My husband and I paid for the laptop that we are using now but it isn't ours personally. His father also uses the laptop as he actually won the bid for it at his work place. I do find it more difficult to get online and mylot whilst having to share, but even so I do find the time, I just have to manage it more so as to earn as much as I intend to. Now the laptop has different user profiles so we each have a different one.

No, its not good to share computers. For all the reasons you said. Plus if you have accounts online such as bank or sites where you buy stuff. Anyone using your computer can access it all. My son advised me when i first got a computer not to allow anyone to use it. They could go to some sites and cause virsus. So many things can happen. I like they way your family does it. I live alone so no worries. My daughters family has 3 computers. One for dad, one for mom and one for kids to play games on. My grandkids are pretty computer savy. Even the 4 yr. old. I dont even loan out my cell phone. If a strange asks to use phone i tell them i dont have one, then hope it dont ring. One day i was at a bus stop downtown and a person there say some strange on the bus asked to use the cell phone then quickly got off the bus with the phone. They are pretty expensive. As are computers. I dont want anyone to steal my phone or mess up my computer.

Hi rtslvtwy! I'm happy that everyone in my house has its own computer/laptop (there are 6 of us in my household). Some of us have even two machines. I don't like sharing my PC and especially my laptop because I don't want it to get scratched or something. Im'm not so afraid of losing my data because I have multiple backups so whatever goes wrong I'm safe. My only worry is physical damage because I have expensive hardware which I don't take care as much as I can. Happpy mylotting and take care! Nice question! :D

For me I like to share my computer internet connection because I don't want someone to open my own computer...
If your computer is in a network. Make sure this is only an internet sharing not all of your folder to share. So that no one will open your stuff or file in your computer. Make passwords in your computer so that they cannot open it. Be sure also that your computer being the gateway or main server of all the computer that share in your home...That's my tip, my friend for the safe of your computer and computer your house hold...Because doing so will prevent viruses affect all your computer once it attack one of the computer...

I don't have to worry about that in myy house, as I am the only one here, so I can use it all I want. My daughter and her family lived with me for 9 mosnths, and they all had their own computers, so I didn't have to share it then either. I don't know what it is like to share my computer, as when I was married, I didn't have to then either, as my ex never went on the computer as he doesn't like them. zi hsve a desktop which is used as a server, as I have my router connected to it, and my printer. The computer I am using is a laptop, as I would rather use it so I can take it to my bedroom and use it if I want to do that before I get up in the mornings. Take care, and happy mylotting.

I hate sharing my personal computer. As an IT, health of your computer system is the most important. Sometimes, you know something that they don't even know like being aware of viruses and known errors. You can't blame them if they accidentally do something harmful into your computer system that you don't like. But if they really need to use it for purpose, you have no choice but to share. You'll just have to set a restriction for those users who'll use yours. The best way you can do is to create 1 limited account for other users.

I really don't mind sharing my computer with everyone in the family. Yes, I would like to have the computer the whole day long, but then how am I going to teach my sons to share? So we used to just have one computer. Now that they are working, one of them has his own laptop as he needs to use it the whole day long.

I prefer that my computer is only for my use because I have set it up to my liking. My wife has her own computer and we have one laptop for when we are away from home. We both use the laptop as it isn't set up solely for either one of us. My wife's computer has many family history research programs installed, but I have no interest in this sort of research. My computer is all about my blogs and website that I have set up and video and music editing programs because videography and music is my hobby... - Derek

...Hi rtslvywy, I am happy to say that at the present time everyone in my household has their own computer and I don't have to worry about sharing mine. If I did have to share it, I would not be a happy camper. I am, I am sorry to say, very selfish when it comes to my personal computer. There are too many things that could get screwed up and it is much better that one person is responsible for the input in a computer. So for now, I am doing great with just myself using my computer. Cheers!

Hi there! We have 3 laptops in the house but since my laptop's the most available because it's out all day all night, people use it.It's fine with me but at times i find it off they they look at my personal files also. Good that you asked that question, is there a way for me to prevent other people from seeing my files?
