Do you shop online?

Do you shop online? And if so, what types of things do you buy online? Personally, I buy things from craigslist occassionally, but that's about it. I have a paypal account, but, I hardly ever use it. I was thinking about possibly saving some time by doing some christmas shopping online. Does anyone else do their christmas shopping online?

I live in a small town. The nearest mall is over an hour away so I have been taking advantage of online shopping for the past couple of Christmases. I did most of my shopping online last year since all of the major retailers and most speciality shops have that option now. I actually find it a lot easier to compare prices and to get the best deals this way instead of going from store to store. My husband and I own a motorcycle shop and we do a lot of business on Ebay when it comes to parts...both buying and selling. I have also found some great websites that sell unique gifts that you can't get at a real store.

Before you sell anything on Ebay you have to see what others are selling the same items for and if it'll even be worth your time. If you're using a verified pay pal account as an Ebay seller it's not too difficult as a new seller because pay pal offers a buyer protection plan. My husband will buy from new as well as long time Ebayers. I think that you have to have a niche in order to do well on Ebay...have something that lots of folks are interested in. My husband owns and builds custom Harley's. He also buys plain gas tanks, details them and resells them on Ebay if he doesn't put them on a bike. He picks up some parts cheap and resells them high. As far as online shopping, the major retailers...Walmart, Target, Kmart, Toys R Us, Best Buy, etc. are all good. I actually watched a Razor scooter go down to half price while I was online on Black Friday and snapped that up for one of the grandkids. I'm also fond of some unusual sites that are legit and dependable. X-tremegeek.com has a lot of gadgets that you don't normally find in stores. Thingsremembered.com and personalcreations.com have personalized gifts. Hotleathers.com has tee shirts and other things in addition to leathers, buy.com has a bunch of everything, bradsdeals.com is also good. All of these are sites that I have personally used and been satisfied with. BTW, along with the Harleys my husband has a Honda chopper and he just picked up a 1968 Triumph chopper that was featured in a biker magazine in 2007. He had a Triumph years ago so he was pretty pleased with himself when he found that one...and won it on Ebay for less than what he was willing to pay for it.

I'm a little worried about security. How do I know if I can trust the site? I mean, don't alot of sites require you to pay by credit card? The last thing I need right now is for someone to steal my identity, or make unwarranted automatic debits from my account. When you shop online, do you "window shop" or do you generally have an idea of what you are looking to purchase?

Oh nice. Thank you so much! Many great, helpful suggestions in that post. I have heard of mypoints. It's nice to hear some else recomend that site. I'll have to see what it's all about and if it will work for me. Honestly, I hadn't even thought that the major retailers would have their own site. That's a fantastic idea! :-)

I shop at ebay and it's really fun in there because I can get the lowest prices ever. I also enjoy free shipping on a lot of items. I recently found this other online store from a Paypal newsletter and it shocked me to find out that it's selling much more cheaper items than ebay.I am yet to purchase anything from it but I will definitely do so in the near future!!!! It's dealextreme :D

Thank you calai! I haven't heard of that site, I will have to check them out. I never used ebay, I'm a little intimidated by the whole auction process as I am not quite sure how that works. But, I'm gonna have to suck it up and dive in I think. I'm missing out! :-)

Ebay is huge. I've never bought anything, but, I imagine if I do shop online, I will be heading there. Do you sell on Ebay at all? I've thought about trying that, but I don't know. I hear it can be tough for new sellers. Has ebay been reliable for you? I mean you always get what you bought, in condition you expected, and in a timely manner? :-)

I do quite a bit of shopping online. I probably shop in stores more than online, but it's definitely close! I love shopping on amazon - they always have the best prices that can't be beat! I sometimes shop on other sites too such as Barnes and Noble, Old Navy, and Victoria Secret. It just all depends on what I want and where I can get the best price! I'm all about a good deal.

That's cool. Does Amazon just sell books? I don't know why, but I'm thinking that is a book selling site. Good deals rock! That's why I keep my eye on craigslist alot. But that's mostly used things I buy for myself. I'm thinking about new things for Christmas gifts. I think it will save me alot of time and effort to shop online this year, provided I can pull it off. How long does shipping usually take for things?

Yes, that is one of the reasons why I am leaning towards shopping online. I hate shopping as well. And, the holiday rush only makes the experience worse. I can't stand the traffic around the holidays. It would be nice to get all my shopping done from right here at home and delivered right to my front door! :-)

Hi ringbearer, The only things I buy online are airline tickets when my family travels - to save me the trouble of falling in a long line to buy tickets over the counter. I've heard horror stories about online shopping and I don't wanna be one of those who paid using their credit cards and got charged twice for 1 item, etc. So I prefer to stick to the traditional way of shopping.

Yes, airline tickets are a good thing to buy online. My family buys them online as well. You can find great deals on flights online that you won't find anywhere else. But, as you stated, holiday shopping is very different. Some folks have recommended ebay and retail sites. That way you know who you are dealing with at least.

There are few good online shopping sites like Amazon and ebay. But I don't shop online very much. Never done that seriously. Sometimes I do buy CDs or DVDs online or even some books that are hard to find in the near stores. But besides that I don't shop online and I don't like to shop online. Rather I like to shop in a big mall. That gives me a lot of fun!

Nice input. One of the only ones I've read so far who would rather go to the mall. You are a brave soul. Especially at the holidays. I don't even like to back out of my driveway into the crazy traffic. When I do, I try and stay as far from the mall as possible. LOL. More power to you! Enjoy! :-)

Very good point. It takes up alot less time to shop online. A lot less stress as well as you don't have to deal with battling the crowds to find what you are looking for.

Well i do shop online a lot. I think its much cheaper that way. I am a big fiction book fan. And many websites give min 25% discount on novels. So i mostly buy my novels online. I have also bought some other things on an irregular basis, like magazine supscription, camera, computer peripherals etc

Hello ringbearer. I love shopping online. So far I have done some online shopping for a few times. What I have bought recently are a nice dress for my wife and a pair of jeans for my son. They got them a few days ago and they love them. I am glad that they like them. Vancl is my favorite site for shopping garments. Here is a photo of the nice dress I bought for my wife.

I sometimes would go on ebay to check and see if I can get better deals on electronics there than shops around me. I sometimes shop online to look for things that I think could probably be cheaper online, or sometimes I try and look for things that I can't find where I'm at.
