Predictions of the future?

I buy a lot of second hand magazines, because I use some of the pictures in my paintings. Recently I bought some old magazines from the 70s, and in one of those magazines there was an article about life in the year 2000. They were trying to predict how life would be at the year 2000.
Some of the things were true for instanse the internet. The journalist predicted that in the year 2000 it would be possible to communicate with people from other countries via a computer, and it would be possible to shop without leaving the house. Other things made me smile for instanse the predictions about transportation. The journalist predicted that by the year 2000 cars would no longer exist and everyone would be flying around in their private planes.
Have you heard similar predictions of the future that were true or not true? How do you imagine life in the year 2040?

At least they got somethings right. I can't really predict what the future will bring, but I do think the internet has and will continue to revolutionize the way we live. I don't know if we will have are own planes, but maybe we will all use some form of floating public transportation system. I also think more and more people will work from home due to future online technology. Oh no, we are going to become hermits and never leave our houses!

I also think that the internet will be a very important part of people's lives in 2040, and we will probably be able to things online that we aren't able to do today. 10 years when ago when I started using the internet some things were from different from today, so I wonder what it will be like in the future. I hope that they will create a wireless internet connection that always works

i dont know if i believe on predicting the future thingy or not. it's just, i live my own life without predictions. we face and encounter new things each day, each day involves time, time involves the days. i will believe any predictions if i myself have encountered and experience it. like for example, if in the future, i will be any person that is famous through time, if that happens, there will be the time that i believe on it. sometimes our imaginations are vague, and that vagueness leads to reality which is i dont know either. and for the prediction of humanity? who can say and who is the real source of it? we have the right to know for us to have our questions be answered clearly :)

these prodictions are prove to be true nowdays, some screen are that cars and phane and some internets, these things are becoming into true. other things such as plane are instead of nowdays cars which are taken place of walking for people.whether this point is true is depended on all kinds of case in the countries.such as the incoming of the people in the country and the special road situation in the countries, and other countris' attitudies on the car spending plan.these fators are very effecting on the saling and spending on the number of saling plane steading of cars.this proces are affected by the energy resources development,if the energy can not be researched for the new ways of the energy, these kinds of plane is not becoming the main of transporting on our living parts,i thinking so in the 2040.

well, in 2040, i would already be a middle-aged man, provided that i am still alive at that point. Well, i heard similar predictions about the end of the world a few years back. You know, before the millenium (2000) hits. But, it's not true. I even heard that church people also stated their views and appeared in their visions that the end is at this particular date and has already passed, but after the day comes, and they were not correct, they just said that God has another plan and forgave the people.
anyways, 2040, i believe that we already has the option not to go away from our homes and do everything inside there. Work, shop, eat, and other functions. I believe that by that time, we can shop with 3d animations, then use the internet to just pay and actually view it or something like that. People can also go partying and dancing while still inside their homes. current technology already have smart AIs that can do basic human functions. There are even cars that can be programmed to go to a specific place and follow a specific path so you can read your newspaper while driving and still safely get to your place. So when you place an order, automatically, a robot or whatever thing will just directly ship/transport the product to your home. In addition, a specific time can also be predicted since it will all be automated and calculated.
Wii also features playing sports while still inside the comfort of your homes. So having a real 3d gaming system is already within grasp. Thus, we could all play tennis, football, whatever, inside our homes. We get the workout, but would not get the heat from the sun or get postponed games because of the rain.
well, that's what i imagine it to be in the year 2040.

According to alot of what I have been reading around here, we only have until 2012.
I remember the predictions about travel, I'm still waiting for my little hover craft.
2040? The way technology moves along, by then we will probably be born with a cell phone or I pod chip or we'll need to be charged for 4 hours before we can function properly.
Sugar and corn syrup will probably be on the controlled substance list.
I hope clothes will learn to fold themelves by then. And that someone has built a trap to catch the sock monster.
I wonder how small our cell phones and how large our tvs will be by then?

I have also seen the discussions about 2012, I don't know what to think of all that. My first thought is that I have heard it all before (about the year 2000 etc)
Clothes that have learned to fold themselves that sounds nice, it would be even better if the clothes were also able to jump into the closet by themselves

The world will be the same in 2040, only thing there will be more number of Cars and two wheelers. Instead of petrol or diesel, they will be running either with CNG or electricity. Most of our electricity will come from Nuclear plants. Instead of 40 story buildings, there will be 80 storied ones. Of course mobile phones would have become ancient, and, instead a small chip will be given and this cab be fixed to the ear, and in the tooth. Computers would have become small, and even the garbage man will be having a computer in his hand.
India and Pakistan will be still fighting over Kashmir. USA will try to protect Democracy from China. China will be the new bad boy of the world. Movie heroes will still be doing unbelivable scenes, and we will be still watching it happily.

In the year 2040 so many person may use private planes. But I don't think then there will be no car or bus. Then car and bus will run by solar power or by atomic energy. Because that time minaral oil may be finished. Achievements of scinece are runing very fast. So it's difficult to predict what will happen in future.

Hi Porcospino,
...nothing is impossible in this world as far as advancing the technologies. whatever it is that will make people's life easy and it is safe why not. by that time 2040 i may no longer exist in this world or i am too old to enjoy its new invention and advance techs.

The journalist predicted that in the year 2000 cars would no longer exist and everyone would be flying around in their private planes. ---- that is a nice prediction but I doubt it wont come true... There are so many poor people and some average people cannot even afford to travel by air due to money matter...
Agree with those the computer predictions...

Hello Porcospino. No I haven't heard of things being predicted but I loved the 70's it was when I was a young adult and it was a great era for me anyway. I love reading stuff like that have come true. I have been using the internet since 2000 and it is a great way to keep in touch without snail mail. But that snail mail has something to it. No one writes anymore that is a shame. Now we don't get cards anymore we get an e-card. The only thing we get in the mail box anymore is junk mail that we land up burning in the trash. I get a good giggle out of stuff like this. We have some old magazines in the garage I guess I will get out there and look through them. Got to clean it out anyway need to park the truck in there now that it is getting colder......LOL Thanks for the memories and the smile you brought to my face.

Hopefully, we're still alive on that year. Anyway, predictions could be wrong or could possibly be right. How about the 2012 prediction? Are you going to believe it or not? I just don't believe on predictions. Some of predictions happen oppositely. There are only too possibilities. Will it happen or not?

I think your interpretation of the magazines is spot on. People now will predict that we in the future will live vastly different to the way we will now. Just look at the concept cars that are in car magazines. I seriously can't imagine I will be driving such cars. In the past they predicted that there will be mass famine as the demand for food will outstrip supply as the population increases. All of these predictions have failed. People have become wealthy from these predictions though. So I'd assume from history that our way of life will be different but the apocalyptic predictions will not come true.

whatever happened in the future depends upon the will of god. There might be no future to come but i hope not. if 2040 comes i think man became more proud with themself trying to act like God because of the inventions they discover. Maybe there will be more calamities to come. But whatever happened we should always be prepared. Are you going where after life?

The prdiction we used to hear is about the end of the world. year 2000, 08-08-08, 09-09-09. those days were told as the days when the earth would end. but those days had passed, and the world was still exist. I don't really care about such predictions.
