Is Heaven and Hell a state of mind or a destination?

Is Heaven and/or Hell as a destination we go to after we die? Or is Heaven and/or Hell a state of mind? Do we make our own Heaven or Hell by our own thoughts? Do you believe your thoughts manifest and make your reality? Can you say you have experienced Heaven and Hell in your life time?
Please don't quote the bible. I am looking for original thought and personal feeling.

What if they are a state of mind. If you found out that there is no Heaven or Hell as a destination would you conduct your life differently?

You have it wrong. I certainly am not relying on others for what the after life has in store for me. I already know it is a state of mind and not a destination in the after life. I was looking to see what others think.

Everyone will know God's unconditional love that heals all hurt. This is Heaven. Everything you do in life will come back to you in time. This is not to punish. It merely shows you what your choices mean. The consequences of bad choices can seem like Hell to some. That would be a state of mind. There is so much to learn that it's good we have eternity to do it.
