Whenever my mom do the cooking, she uses knife to peel the skin of some vegetables like carrots and tomatoes. However as time goes by, easy kitchen tools has been developed. Kitchen utensils are being improved. Knifes has been divided according to its purpose. And a peeler was also created to ease the burden of peeling. Since then, we use the peeler, in order to save time and energy.
How about you, do you still use knife to peel vegetables or do you now use the peeler? What is more convenient for you?

Hi Aira,
...i am just wondering --you peel tomatoes? well, i still use my knife in peeling off vegetables although i have peeler but i am not used to it. i still work or peel faster applying the classic way of peeling it. There are vegetables that are better peeled with a peeler than a knife but majority of the vegetables that i have i use knife.

Thank you for the response.
With regard to your question, yes I do it sometimes, especially if the tomatoes is very expose to the hands of the consumer. I am not peeling the skin thoroughly instead, I am just taking off some of the skin with dots.

Thanks A for that enlightenment...i agree with you mom knows best. So i got what you're referring too of peeling your tomato, you're just removing or taking our those dotted on sides. I do the same of taking out the dotted parts but not peel it over.

Hi airasheila: you're totally right when you mention how tools evolved year after year and that we have to adaptate to them simply because they're here to make life even more comfortable. Even with that i don't use a peeler because i'm too lazy and i have not buy one for myself. Being honest i am not very good in the kitchen, for it's really hard to cut the skin of the vegetables with a knife. Lol. Xd. Well, thanks for mentioning this interesting subject. Have a nice day.

I prefer using peeler for peeling purposes. It is safer and faster than using a knife. However, if a peeler is not available make sure to use a sharp knife than a blunt one. Using a blunt knife will increase your chances of getting yourself cut than peel the vegetables.:-)

I like to use a peeler for my vegetables. I am too messy with a knife. I end up cutting more than the peel.

Hello Bart78,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You are quite right, if you dont have the proper grip, there will be a chance to hurt your skin.

i have seen my mom use the knive rather than the peeler.its not easy to use the pealer as far as my mom is concerned.when i peel just to help my mom i always use the peeler thats the only thing that is safer than the knife according to me.iam not used to using knives.its easy to get a cut.if you get used to using a thing then its hard to stop and use something else instead of that.thats the case with my mom.anyways happy mylotting.cheers.

Hi vais us only: that's not only the case of your mom. I'm sure my mom feels comfortable when she peels the vegetables with a knife that she's not really interestes with the idea of changing the habit and doing the same thing in another way not even if this is easier than how she is doing it. Thanks for your answe. Have a nice day.

I use a peeler. Like you said, it was invented to make peeling easier. My mother started with a knife and progressed to a peeler. My mother-in-law still uses a knife and has no peeler at home. So, I find it hard when I visit...because I'm not used to peeling with a knife. I guess that's the minus of not having got used to both. My mother can manage either ways.

I cannot use a knife to peel vegetables with. I end up peeling most of the vegetable too! I have to use a peeler, and sometimes it's hard to find a good one.

I used to use a knife but now I rather use a peeler because it's faster it takes less of the peel off and theres less chance of me cutting myself

Earlier as you said people used the knife to peel the skin of the vegetables .But now they use the peeler .I also use the peeler .It is very convenient and at the same time the skin that comes out when using the peeler,is very thin thus saving the vegetable.

Hi, airshelia. I usually will use the knife to peel my vegetables with. I don't have a peeler, but I sure do need to get me one. It would peel my vegetables much faster than it does with a knife. I get so tired of peeling my veggies with a knife, it takes so long.

I am so used to use knife, so I don't usually use a special peeler. I am good with knives, so I get by with these.

i USE A PEELER FOR POTATOES, CARROTS, turnips, pears & most everything else like tomatoes i peel w/a knife. I just started usuing a peeler on pears when i was maling preserves this summer. They are so hard to peel & I THOUGHT I'D TRY THE PEELER & IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER.

I use both. I use a knife to peel things like potatoes and the peeler to peel carrots and other long root vegetables. Its just easier for me to use the knife to peel the round veggies and fruits, and the peeler for the rest. The peeler doesn't work as well in my estimation on things like apples and potatoes.

Hi Airasheila...with me, it depends on the vegetable or fruit. I use a peeler for carrots and cucumbers, and for all other things, a paring knife.
