I don't foster, I have 3 of my own children and we haven't the space for more. But well done to you for going for it, I definitely want to foster when my children have flown the nest. I love the idea of being able to provide a loving secure home for someone who really needs it. I believe it can be very hard sometimes, but with a lot of patience very rewarding. My Aunt works with children who are mainly in foster homes or in childrens homes. She is a teacher, so looks after these kids during the day. I don't wish to scare you as she really does have the worst behaved kids, who have unimaginable backgrounds. They are often very violent, or the complete opposite, so withdrawn they never say a word. But even though she finds her job extremely hard at times, she also finds it extremely rewarding, seeing some of the kids grow and start achieving things, because when she first sees them often people think there is no hope for them. Some kids are fostered out for reasons that can't be helped, like parents become unexpectedly ill and there is no one else to care for them. But even though these children will have been well brought up and loved, it is still traumatic to a child to be taken from their home to live with strangers, even for a short time. It means so much to the kids if the foster parents are kind and caring. I also know from personal experience as I was fostered for a short time when I was young, I never said a word to my foster parents when I was there. But it was because I wanted to be with my parents and resented being there. Looking back my foster parents were so kind and patient. They didn't seem bothered that I was so cross at the time. But their patience with me made my time there easier. Hope I helped a little happy mylotting
