I used to cut my Cocker mix's hair all the time. It took about a year to grow back. She was a wiggle waggle little thing, so it always was cut crooked. No big deal. I also cut my foster Cocker's hair into a puppy cut. He was a good boy and sat still,so I managed to give him a nice cut. Then when I would leave him in a kennel for a weekend, they would practice giving him a proper Cocker Spaniel cut. I would just finish the cut at home and make it more of a puppy cut again.

I have no choice but to cut my dogs hair as where she poos gets very mucky as well as a few other places gets matted when her hair gets wet and the matts can not be brushed out and sometimes they are soo close to the skin as well so clippers are the safest bet.

If you brush your dogs hair every day, it wont get matted. It's a lot of work having a dog. Having a long haires or curly haired dog is even more work.

Yes I have three dogs and two of them are very short haired so no need to cut but, the other has a wiry coat that sticks up high on his back so every so often I trim it. At the moment he has a thick coat because of course it is winter but, I plan to trim in the spring when it is a little warmer and I want feel so bad on him for taking his nice thick coat of fur!!

My long haired dogs fur when wet keeps getting matterd so i have found it is best to use hair clippers on her as if she jumps there is less of a chance that the dog will get hurt.

I have never cut a dog's fur! My last dog was a blue heeler and his coat was so thick that I don't think I could have cut it if I had to! And he would never have let me do it. If there were burrs in it or something maybe then I would but his hair wasn't long enough to worry about.

In my life we've only had two dogs that needed to have regular haircuts. The first one that we had was really well behaved when it came time for him to have a haircut. As a matter of fact, my mother was able to use clippers on him and he never complained about it by running or growling. The other little dog, on the other hand, was not quite so well behaved when it came to his grooming and we had to take him to a pet groomer to have his hair cut. However, he was always good with a bath. Now, we have two dogs, and the little one does need to have the hair around her rear trimmed now and again but the rest of her doesn't have to be cut and she is learning to deal with it, although not very happily.

hey jugs.. lol.. you have a funny story.. and yeah i know what it feels like when dogs have smelly hair.. so yeah i guess it would be best that you cut your dogs hair so as to prevent stinking.. lol.. :D although i could suggest giving your dog a bath instead of a haircut.. lol.. i give my dogs a bath and at first they didnt like it but then they seem to love it now.. as long as you make them feel secure when you do something to them they will trust you..

I did cut my dog's hair the other month. I really had a great time doing it. While I'm busy cutting I didn't notice that my dog was also busy eating his hair falling on the floor.

My dog hates having her hair cut sometimes as she gets nervous and sometimes i use hair clippers on her as sometimes this is easier for her as she has very long hair which tends to get a bit matted near her bottom.

Every year, when we had the dog we had when I was growing up, we clipped her hair very short, so that she would not shed. By the same time the next summer, all that hair was back, and we shaved her again, and this continued every year.

My dogs hair gets matted and i also find that the hair clippers are good as they are quiet and therefore do not cause as much stress as a pair of scissors as she is an excitable dog and i am worried that she may jump and end up being cut by them where as hair clippers would not hurt her.

What breed is your dog? I have never had a dog with long hair. My only dogs have been a jack rusell, dalmation cross, mini fox terier and a beagle. My daughter and I are seriously buying another dog.y ex husband has taken his dalmation, so now my mini forx terrrier is lonely. I favour a maltese cross shitzu, which are really popular lap dogs in Australia. I have heard though that they require a lot of grooming & need to have their bottoms wiped. My daughter favours another brred. I wont tell you what is, as I might start a discussion about it.

I have a Lhasa Apso, and I always got to cut his hair.I have to cut the mats out because he's a long haired dog.I also cut the hair off his behind, because then the poop gets stuck in it.It's hard to keep up with all the grooming, but I love his breed.I try to brush him daily. It's just not enough.I groom him myself because I can't afford to take him to the groomers all the time.

I know what you mean about the mattining of the dogs hair as we also have a dog that no matter how many times you brush her there are always matts and some of the matting is very closely matted near her skin.

Hello jugsjugs. It's funny because i just cut the hair of my dog yesterday. It didn't look so good but the point is, to remove the whirled hair which cannot be combed already. Since it's a lhasa apso-shih tzu breed that has a lot of hair. I told my parents to bring it to the nearest pet shop to groom it but they don't want it because it's kind of expensive. And we can cut the hair all by ourselves. But disregard the style though.

I never give my dogs a hair cut for I am afraid to cut them. Plus I am grateful that their hair is short anyway so it makes it a bit easier. Gross about the worming tablet. Thanks for sharing

I also brush my cats' hair now and then. But they never sit quiet. They try to run away. My husband has to hold them and then I will brush the hair for them. I wonder why it is not enjoyable for them. I brush the hair softly and gently only.

My hubby and I had two cocker spaniels, one for 12 years and the other for 13 years and they constantly needed their fur shaved off. Our female had an awful skin problem and shaving her down was the best thing for her however, the male was ok but we shaved him down too anyway so he could look like his sister. They were fixed, we didn't want to breed them but yes, we shaved them down every 3 months and it was much better for them and they didn't get any poo or their rear ends or on their fur. I didn't buy a cheap shaver but one from petsmart which is much better and works like a charm however, they do get heated up like any shaver does and we had to use a spray to cool it down so it wouldn't burn our dogs skin.

My dogs both have long hair and like yourself I alwsy have their backside cut for the same reason as you and really all the fur there isn't really terribly important, apart from that I have never cut either of my dogs hair and wouldn't dream of it as how they are is what the breed is meant to look like, am against all dogs being shaved or hair cut for the ownrs satisfaction of not having to groom the dog also especially having a tail docked that is terrible all dogs should have a tail as you can tell so much about their moods etc by the way they wag their tail...LoLo

Nope, dont have to. One of them already has short hair, so no need to cut them. As for the other one, he has slightly long hair but not long enough that it drops down. Its just enough for his body, he has some tufts of it on his neck, and he seems to have some flair on his tail.LOL It's fine the way that it is and both of my dogs dont have a problem like yours do. Im sure your dog can feel much better now that his hair doesnt smell funky.
