Hello everyone :)
Into each life, however hard, many blessings come. What are some of your favorite ways to show gratitude, whether to people, God, or the universe? Do have special rituals or things you do each day? Or as they come to you? Please share.
Some of my own are:
Prayer
A simple thank you
Doing a kindness
Giving back to life and people in ways that I can, such as donating to the needy or helping friends and family when they need it.
Taking time to think on things with which I am blessed or writing them down in a journal, so that I do not forget how much good has been given me.

I start my day with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving for another day of life, for a sound sleep and for the new life blessed upon my family. I too ask for wisdom to do the right and best things during the day. i extend some help to our child caregiver in preparing our breakfast and preparing the kids to school. I smile with people i meet on my way to work. I say thank you to the cab driver for a safe trip to work, i used to greet our office guard and everyone in office a smile and share snacks with them. I used to buy extra bread and 3-in-1 coffee so i can have something to share to my officemates.

Karen,
This year i have a great thing to be thankful for being in mylot, for meeting many friends from all over the world, for sharing the fun and above all --earning an additional blessing!

Hi Karen !
I always thank the great God for the blessing He has bestowed upon me and His kindness towards me. I do not forget to convey my heartfelt ‘thanks’, if somebody does favour to me. I always feel grateful for the favour and try my best to repay the same, in whatever manner I can. Prayer is also one of the ways to convey our gratitude to the Almighty. I am really impressed with your idea of writing ‘your blessings’ on the journal. It is better to write because we possibly cannot remember each and every event in details and our mind has limited capacity. Also, writing posts on myLot is also not less than a diary for keeping records of events happening in our life.
Have a great day!

Hello Deepak. Your attitude of thankfulness for all your life's blessings come through clearly here in your posts :) And yes, even they serve as a kind of online diary, yes?
I write down my blessings to make them fully clear in mind, so that when difficult times come, I have an easy recall of all that there is that is still good in life and in people :)
Have a blessed day.

Hello Karen, I have started going through the attitude of gratitude thing and I really like it. At the end of the day just before I retire for the night I do have a little ceremony that I perform. I say a prayer and give thanks and I write it down on a piece of paper. I then burn this piece of paper in a little pot and it feels quite powerful as I am submitting this prayer and the smoke slowly rises after the flame has been distinguised and only ashes are left. I sense that the smoke slowly rises and becomes one with the Universe. I like this ceremony and it's something I like to do. Andrew

Hi Karen, you are more than welcome to use the ceremony yourself! They say that when you carry out an action with prayer or submitting requests to the universe then it suddenly becomes more powerful. Anyway, nice chatting with you. Take care. Andrew

Hello Andrew :) I think it's wonderful, your ritual.
Recognizing blessings, as you do, and embracing gratitude for them, goes a long way toward getting us through the difficulties in life and more fully enjoying the good. Thank you so much for sharing that.
I'd like to borrow it :)

Thank you :) I believe, too, that when we put actions with our words, they do indeed carry more power.

If referring to our dear God. I will show my gratitude in a thanksgiving mass. I always go to church to praise him then have a little prayer to say thanks for his good did unto me.
If this is referring to a person. If someone help me and or did something kind to me. I always show gratitude saying thanks and God bless. So that God, will one to repay him/her if I will not pay back those kindness...
Hello Karen, nice to participate in your discussion again. Long time no talk my dear friend. Have a nice day!

Hi Amy...nice to see you!
Saying thank you, yes...that is important, and I think people always appreciate kind and thoughtful things we do, such as those you've mentioned. And it's good to remember the poor and less fortunate among us :)
Thank you.

My favorite way to show gratitude is to say thanks and pray for the person so that God can shower more of His blessing upon the person. The only ritual thing i do everyday is just to thank God for given the grace to see another day .

Hello Victory :)
I also think it is good to pray for other people, to pray for them to be more and more blessed by God...and then to thank God each day for all the good that life holds. Today, in the US, we have a national holiday called Thanksgiving. It is a time of gathering together with family and friends near and far, and sharing memories, a feast, and expressing gratitude for what we have.

Well I pray and say Thanks, I go to temples whenever I can, but I don't have a fixed day or time set.
I try to be kind but I guess I could improve a lot in that aspect. maybe someday I will.

Hi Karen,
Indeed there is every reason to be grateful, just being here in this world is enough reason to thank God. I thank Him for giving me a wonderful family, a job to help my husband augment the family income, a home to stay. Every night before going to bed, I pray to thank him for everything, and ask forgiveness for the things that I have done wrong, and those that I should have done but didn't.

Hello Dory :)
I agree, life itself is a reason to be grateful and thank God who gives it. The things you've mentioned...home, family, income...these are precious indeed. And I cannot imagine a life without daily prayer.
Thank you for expressing your views and the ways you show your gratitude :)

A couple of the ways that I show that I am grateful for the things that people have done for me are to give people that have helped me out in some way a gift of some sort, usually something that I've made for them.
I also do a lot of thanking in the prayers that I say every night before I go to bed.
Finally, I pay forward the good acts that have been done for me. I donate to charity as much as I can and instead of throwing away the things that are no longer useful to me, I will see if I can find someone who could put those things to use again.

Hi Dorann. I have always figured you would be a very giving person. Homemade thank you gifts, or anything homemade, is the best kind of gift. I love knitting for others :))
Paying forward, another great concept. Thank you for sharing those things.

When I became a christian, God commanded us to give thanks in whatever situation we are in be it a blessing or trials. So always give thanks to God for everything you do to show your gratefulness and as a worship to God for His unconditional love for us.

Hello Olepmis. You are right: in all things give thanks.
This is not hard to do for there is so much for which to be grateful in life, even during times of sorrow...always a blessing somewhere.
Thank you for your nice response!

Hi Alexy...yes, it is enough to give thanks to God and to others. What better form of showing gratitude than living it, as you've said, by being good in our world?
Have a very nice day.

Hello
I think prayers are the process of self empowerment. It is the process that makes us feel our strenght and ability. And the offering self towards the super power that lead the whole universe.

Hi Scandinevian. Prayers do accomplish much...empowerment and strength, lessening of fear and grief, and they can bring such peace and hope...very healing. I could not get through a day and feel right if I did not spend some time in prayer!

Karen,
first of all I would like to thank you for initiating such a topic for discussion. I don't think miracle happens when you get something you've wished for long, like a car or an apartment. Miracle happens when you suddenly feel the love of God and your faith that God is there to protect and love you, gets stronger. God has created us, so he loves and adores us just like our parents do. I do prayers. Everybody does. Absolute wisdom comes with the realization that God's blessings are the most valuable possession we have. Everything else is temporary and perishable. Even if all we have at preset is suddenly taken away from us, there is no reason to believe that god has abandoned us. The belief that He is the one who always decides for our good is the ultimate gratitude, I think. Gratitude is not to divert from the path of faith and righteousness no matter what.
I highly value the tendency of human beings to help each other. But one has to remember the fact that its not Us who is actually helping. In reality, it is God who is letting us be a means to serve others, he is letting us serve a holly cause. When we are helping the family, the needy we are certainly not doing a favor to anybody. One should really consider himself fortunate if he gets such opportunities.
Take care.. and God bless you all....?

Hi Getbiswa, and you're welcome :)
You've said so much that I also feel and believe. God does do many of His greatest works through people helping others...as though each of us has an opportunity to be rather like an angel on earth, if we so choose.
I thank God for life, for people, for all the things He's given us, even the lessons we learn and the strength we gain from dire troubles.
And whenever I am outside and with nature, or in prayer, I feel His presence so strongly and cannot help but fill with gratitude.
Thank you for your input!

Hi Karen, I have thought about this discussion long and hard and to be honest I found it difficult but I guess someone who has depression and find life tough views life and gratitude not going so hand in hand, I do try to take what mother nature has given to us as a blessing, watching the wonderful animals, the fauna and things that we take for granted such as the beautiful sunsets, and the ocean, which incidentially I find extremely therapeutic. So for me at the moment it's not life I see with gratitude but what mother nature gives us unconditionally if that makes sense?

Hello Wolfie. Rest assured, in as far as I can, I do identify as I've been treated for years for depression :)
That said, I, too, find much to be grateful for in nature, and yes, in people. I make a concerted effort not to let depression bias me against the good in life, including my own depressed life lol, for it does exist in abundance. We have to "notice" it though :)

I thank God for what he has given me so far.
I thank the people who helped me.
I try my best to help the needy people within my capacities.
I try my best to help my friends and relatives within my personal and financial abilities.
I try my best to share my knowledge with others.
I try my best to make others happy.
I try my best to make others laugh-I am almost like a joker at such times, lol.
