Happy Thanksgiving to all of the mylot family. This year, more than any other year in my past I find that I have a lot to be thankful for despite the fact that I have less than I've had in the past as far as materialism. So, to make this a great discussion. What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day? Who are you celebrating the holiday with? Do you feel like you have a lot to be thankful for this year?

Hi Dorann, Happy Thanksgiving Day to you and your family. I am one with you in celebrating thanksgiving day. We don't have like that here in our country. But we have several festivals to celebrate and express our thanksgiving and gratitude for the all the blessings we received for the entire year. ...i did not let this day pass without greeting my friends in the US happy thanksgiving day via email.

How wonderful that you take time out of your day to wish your American friends a Happy Thanksgiving even though you don't celebrate it yourself. I'm really curious to learn more about the festivals that you celebrate to show your thankfulness.

My US-based friends responded to my emails about the thanksgiving day. Their mails made my day. I am happy to know that they miss me a lot and they're all looking forward to seeing me again and work together AGAIN!

Happy Thanksgiving back to you. We are having my family over for dinner and then will be visiting his family later in the day. I have alot to be thankful for, even though there have been lots of rocks to get over. I do still have a roof over my head and right now, that is a big thing.

I agree with you, the roofs over our heads this year is something to be especially thankful for. And you also have your son to be thankful for as well. How is he doing right now?

me to i have less then ever like everyone else. these past few years have been harder and harder and i think thats when we really wake up and realise whats most important and when families put aside "things" and keep more in touch and pull together. thats what im thankful for. that son wants me with him and admits his mother is important in my last years here.

I feel like having to pull together to get through these last couple of years have been a wonderful thing for our family as well. We spend more time together and we've fallen very much away from the materialism that we once lived with. I feel like for us having less means that we have a whole lot more.

Happy belated Thanksgiving, dorannmwin! Every year since we've gotten married, the winter holidays have just been too hectic - especially after having a child! Our parents live only 5 minutes from us in either direction - but we don't all get together as one. We always go to one home and then to the other. My parents' get togethers are very casual and relaxing - and we like that every is hands on with our daughter. My hubby's parents' get togethers are just "adult" - no one will spend time with my daughter (and there are no other kids, so it's quite boring for her) - it's just one issue after another there (though the festivities end after only a couple hours). So THIS year, since we just had the baby, we spent Thanksgiving just at my parent's house and oh was it so peaceful. Hubby's parents had Thanksgiving at a restaurant since no one on that side wants to cook anymore . . . and we didn't want to take a newborn to a public place just yet. I was thankful we only had to go to one place this year - hee hee. Ok, but the real things I am thankful and grateful for: I am grateful for my family who has helped us tremendously during our pregnancy. I am grateful for my husband who has done everything in his power to help out at home (and be daddy) even though he works long hours as work as it is. I am relieved and happy, and thankful that our son is healthy and thriving well, even though I had health issues during pregnancy. I am thankful that our little girl is becoming a big girl and loves her little brother so much. It is tight this year . . . I am ever so grateful we have what we have . . . I can't complain.

With the new baby you certainly have a lot to be thankful for this year. And having a relaxing holiday I know was a great treat for you. This year was the first time that we visited two people on Thanksgiving, and it wasn't too hectic for us because we only went to my husband's grandma's house for a little bit before going to my mother's house and they were both local and really didn't require going out of our way at all.

I'm always thankful to god and my family members. As long as you think of materialism, you can't be thankful to your well-wishers with a fair heart and I believe in love and peace which you will never get from any material.

You've got such a wonderful point. I've learned a lot over the past two years about materialism. I'm now at the point that I am like the money police in our family because I just don't like to spend it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. I have to work from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. since I am a dispatcher for a Cab company, and then will be spending a nice quiet Thanksgiving evening at home with my husband. He has the day off work so he will be cooking a Turkey and the fixings while I am at work, so we will have a nice meal when I get home. Even though it is just the 2 of us, we have a 16 pd. Turkey so it will be good eating for sure.

It definitely sounds like the two of you are going to be stuffed. Before my son was born I had to work on Thanksgiving as well (I was a nursing assistant) and as much as I hated to work on a holiday, I felt good about it because I was giving our patients a little something to be thankful for.

Hello! Actually we don't have any Thanksgiving celebration in the Philippines, but I wished you happiness and good blessings from God. Good health for you and your children and have a safe and memorable celebration out there. Can you explain what's Thanksgiving is all about?I mean what is that American tradition is all about?thanks!

Thanksgiving is an American holiday that dates back to the pilgrim times when the pilgrims celebrated their harvest. Today, it is not so much about celebrating the harvest as it is spending time with your family and loved ones. It is a beautiful holiday despite the fact that it isn't celebrating the traditional as much as it did in the past.

Hello Dorann, and a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving to you and all of your loved ones! Since most of the family is going elsewhere, and I've had bronchitis, a dear friend and I are making dinner here at my apartment. The pies, he baked last night, and today, I have the rolls set out to rise, the potato salad made, the 7 lb. chicken about ready to stuff. There will be a relish tray, sweet potatoes, corn, and what's Thanksgiving without the cranbery relish?? We took one of the pies up to our elderly neighbors, and this weekend, my youngest daughter and her finance will be here to visit for a few days :)) I've called and sent cards to my loved ones who I'll not be able to see, and later, we'll put up some of the Christmas decorations ... wreaths and such, and listen to some good music as we do. Perhaps a game of Scrabble after that. Again, have a blessed holiday! Karen

I want to wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving day. I will be spending it with my two daughters and my granddaughter. Unfortuntely my son-in-law has to work. My daughter will take food to him after we eat. I am more grateful this year because I still have a roof over my head, food on the table, bills are being paid. We all have pretty good health so I am definitely grateful and thankful.
