Learning to ride a bicycle, do you have that experience?

I remembered when I was in primary school, I walk to school every day. I always amazed by other kids who ride to school by their own bicycle. I wanted to be like them therefore I try to learn to ride a bicycle. It was a very tough learning curve. I hurt myself a couple of times during the process. However, at last I ride up there on the road cycling my bicycle, feeling free like a bird. How about you? How did you learn your first ride?

learning to ride a bicycle is not that easy. you will hurt yourself first and get a lot of cut in your knee or in your legs and arms. i had that experience when i tried to ride a bicycle, i was already bleeding but still i didn't gave up until i really learn to do it alone. and of course after how many scratches and cuts i finally did it and im so happy about it.

I'm also learn how to ride a bike when I was 12 yrs. old but my mother forbid us to ride a bike because we are accident prone kid that time. I'm so disappointed because I'm going to learn that time how to balance. Now I want to learn how to ride a bike again but it is hard and I'm very ashamed of myself because most of the kids know how ride a bike. I'm get frustrated because I don't know how to balance myself so I stop teaching myself for a couple of days. I got scraped and bruises so for now I stop it. I also heard that too most of the parents forbid their daughters to ride a bike because they said that you going to lose your virginity but I don't know it is true or not.

Yes, of course. I believe that bruise and scratches can be a mark of success. One can be proud of it. Never give up doing something until we master it. Learning from experience is a part of good thing being human.

Hi!! I was gifted a bicycle by my uncle on my 12th birthday as my uncle knew I always wanted to own one as many of my friends in our building used to ride their bicycles. It was a small bicycle with a support wheel on each side so you can call it more of a quad-cycle rather than a bicycle lol.It was easier to ride with those support wheels as there was no question of balancing the cycle. After a month or two my Dad decided to get rid of those support wheels and insisted on me riding it on the 2 wheels. It was really difficult to balance the cycle and I used to be scared of falling off it so I just started skipping off the bicycle sessions with my dad with some or the other excuses everyday lol.One day an uncle in our building gave me support from the back by holding the bicycle and told me to ride it fast.It was easier to balance because of the support and I kept riding it fast but after some time I realizes that the uncle had let go off the bicycle and I was riding it on my own.I got very scared and lost my balance and the bicycle skidded leading to a collapse with the wall.I got a bit injured because of the impact but then I became confident that I can ride it on my own from now on and that's how I actually learned to ride a bicycle.I think unless you fall once or twice you can't learn to ride a bicycle and get the confidence in you he he.

I wish I have support wheel to begin with. However, based on your story, it is not that easy.It is good to hear that your father was very committed to the success of his son. I found it intriguing and fulfilling. Well done to you, your father and helpful uncle.

I learned to ride a two-wheeled bicycle when I was eight. I had to learn the hard way. My dad took and replaced my training wheels so many timed he could probably do it in his sleep. One day I was riding with my training wheels and i was not paying attention. I ran into a tree and broke my training wheels off. After that I had to learn to ride or park the bike.

The first bicycle I got from my dad was when I'm about 5 years old. Its a BMX bike and I'm the very fortunate one to have such bike in my neighborhood. I only have three or four crashes before I finally able to ride by myself. I got many pictures of it and seeing those pictures tells me how proud my dad is to me. The bike lasted for only two years (I think) but its memories live forever.

I also remember my first days with the bike. It was really fun and I still remember how my father tought me to ride it. It was a small bicycle with subsidiary wheels, so I couldn't fall. But in spite of all I was very scared, not to fall. I also still remember when my father took off the subsidiary wheels and held it with one arm. And once he let go the bicycle and ddin't tell me and soI ride and ride, and suddenly the scare disappears.

Hi to everybody in this thread. Everyone here have very interesting, personal experience in learning to ride a bicycle. I hope that by sharing this experience we can learn something from others, that might be useful in our life. Maybe we can be a coach in riding bicycle too to our friends, relatives, our children or someone who need it. Thank you for sharing. Hope all the best for you.

Hi. In our province, girl kids were not normally allowed to ride a bike. You know why? Because of the belief of most elders that girls might lose their virginity. Haha. Of course I did not obey them. Like you, I envied the kids who knew how to drive a bike. Secretly, I asked my younger brother and cousins to teach me how to bike. I really had so much fun biking in school or anywhere away from home. But eventually, my parents learned that I knew how to bike. I was so afraid then. Luckily, they did not scold nor punish me. They just told me to take care and keep away from heavy traffic streets.

I wonder why would they say that to girls. I guess they were worried about the safety of young girls in their province. Luckily you don't follow them and manage to cycle by yourself with the help of your brother and cousins. You could be a role model to the girls in your province. Nicely done. I hope everybody has a strong will like you.

Thanks for the kind words. Maybe you are correct in saying that our elders were just concern about our safety. I agree that learning how to bike must be done under the supervision of more mature family members or friends.

Hi, madie8008. I don't remember my very first bike. But, I do remember riding my new ten speed throughout my back yard. I kept losing my balance, but I eventually grasped the hang of it as time progressed. I continued to ride it until I got the hang of it. I did not give up. Keep practicing, you will get it.

That balancing step really make me go through some hard times too. I wonder how the acrobats do that on the rope without falling.

I don't remember how old I was when I learned to ride a bike, but I was just a kid. My father taught me, and it was not easy, as one of my father's good points isn't patience. I have never needed the bike to go to school as I lived really near, but I would enjoy going on weekends for a ride!

Off course I remember when I learned how to ride a bike when I was a kid I did not really have a good time since I got a few bad cuts when I fell off the bike lol. But i'm still glad that I learned how to ride a bike even if I don't really ride bikes anymore which I have not ridden one for god knows how long lol.

Well done for your success riding a bike. Though you never ride it again, at least you have something to be proud of.

I think the first time i have learned how to ride bicycle was about 3 or 4 yrs old. Apparently it was a small bicycle especially for kids. At first for keep balance, i use four wheels, you know, three wheels at the back to let me easy handle this bike. after about one month, my father took the extra two wheels and allowed me to learn to ride the "real" bike. The bike was small so it was not that hurt when i fall down.

That is a genius act, learning the bicycle when you are still small to avoid injury. I hope my future children can do that too so they can be like you.

I learned how to ride a bike when I was 10 years old. I did not have a bike way back then. But my neighbor does and I borrowed it in order to learn. My parent cannot afford to by me a bike when I was a child. I seem to have outgrown that want. Now, I already have a car, but I bought my seven year old son a bike. I wanted him to have something that I never had when I was still a child.

Well, as far as I could remember it took me just one whole day to learn how to ride a bicycle. It was not even my bike. It was my neighbor's bike. My neighbor got lots of them. Somehow that day, maybe I was bored or my friends weren't there or they were busy doing something else... something like that... It was long time ago... The place where I was learning how to ride a bike was just a small place. It has a rest house in the middle but you could go around it and round and round I go. And the bike, it was not even like bmx, it was more like for girls kind of bike maybe because kids there were small but I was determined to learn how to ride it on my own. There weren't any other who's riding another bike with me at first. I started in morning of that day. We always frequented this house when we were small. So at first I tried balancing off from right to left and vice versa, then trying to pedal at the same time. Wow, that was so hard, balancing and at the same time pedalling with no one to assist you. And then eventually, to make the story short, before that day ends I finally was able to ride on my own. I was very happy and proud of myself that I did finally learned how to ride a bicycle.

Yeah I remember learning to ride a bike well sort of I dont remember exactly how old I was when I learned how to ride my bike. But I remember falling a lot which was not that fun even though I have not ridden a bike in a long time though and it will take me a while to remember to get use to riding a bike again. Which I will have to wait till after the winter time to start riding again.
